Re: New beam design class 5? Who, where???
Plenty of options for arms if they allow something that attaches to the beam, like bushings on a rear arm, (2) points of attachment, longer arms, narrower car, because they will hit the lower tube on the frame of the car, longer beam/straighter arm, but longer, many options, but for the cost of going all out custom stuff, getting from 15 1/2" using a 4" arm, to some expensive hybrid type that may be protested against to get 18"????
I want pictures of this car, PLEASE!!!!

Re: New beam design class 5? Who, where???
It's not really a beam car if the trailing arms mount behind the beam. We could also just leave a narrow beam up there and just mount a class 10 front end on the front of the car. It'd still have a beam! non-functional but it'd still have a beam! kind of the same idea. Not having the trailing arms come out of the beam doesn't seem right to be racing class 5.

I admit I'm curious, just to see. It seems like a recipe for disaster if you mounted a LONGER arm BEHIND the beam. That means at bump you'd put the beam like 4" further into the dirt. That would be the fastest way to cartwheel a 5 car that I can think of. Any arm not ran from the center of the beam would definitely be protested though, I agree.

Re: New beam design class 5? Who, where???
I think I have an idea of what he is talking about. I believe there would be a triangulated arm attaching further into the back of the beam giving the arm more places to hold instead of just off the end of the beam. Not necessarily longer or further back. just another pivot or shear if you will for strength. Are the gears turning yet?
But when it comes down to it is still a beam style front end just theoretically stronger, Not better. But I guess that could be considered better.
Oh and on one off stuff being expensive. Have you bought a set of fodds lately? I would not call that cheap. I am so tired of beam cars. It is like a volkswagen engine. Overpriced, underpowered, and over a century old. Why do people still build these cars? I am bitter because i own 1 of the 2, and used to own both at the same time. Glad it is half over.

Re: New beam design class 5? Who, where???
In the overall cost of racing, a set of $800.00 Foddrill lowers, every 1000 miles is really not that big of a deal!!!, recoup $500.00 on RDC for the used units and keep on racing. Re-inventing the wheel is always fun, but never cost effective!!
If you could gain 5 or 6 inches of travel, then it will be worth it, but PROTESTS will be in order I am sure.
How about some 2" hollow spindles for a beam car!!! Then we can run 35" front tires, longer arms, 12" shocks and get 18" of travel out of the front and still have a couple inches, 3 or 4, of ground clearance!!!!!

Then your fods will last 200 miles instead of 1000

the 2in spindels has been done already ,but 35,s up front would kill a rack and a boat load of arms .still looking for drawings .
