With all due respect to those who race in Baja, I am tired of the same old line----we always have Baja. The larger arguement isn't "Where can we race if this gets closed?". The larger discussion is about the erosion of our access to use public lands in the good ol' USA for car/truck racing. I do not consider a foreign country, especially one we have such a contentious relationship with over a variety of issues, to be an acceptable alternative to using land I pay for at home, in my own country. Nothing against Baja or those who race there---but we are talking about OUR desert being snatched away piece by piece. America should benefit from my racing expenditures. Not Mexico.
No fight there. But with the land in Texas its private. No blm just large expance of raw land that cattle barons own. Baja well this is true regarding same ol track gets old.

I agree with you coilover. Unfortunatley it appears that the vast majority of people take the attitude of "well that sucks, but I race in mexico so it doesn't effect me." I think that more people in the industry should be concerned and proactive on these issues because there are plenty of racers (such as myself) that will not be able to race if we can't race in so. cal or nevada. That would be a tremedous negative effect on the off-road industry here. So far the biggest contributors that I have seen in all of this have been Jerry and Camburg and RPI. Also, King of the Hammers and Desert Concepts has been heavily involved in the 29 Palms Marine base expansion issues. That is not to say that others are not concerned or doing their part in this... but it certainly appears that people who make their living in this industry are not as concerned as they should be

Re: We cant police ourselves, we have already lost the battle
1) We are guilty until proven innocent and the BLM can be as insensative as they want; it's still up to us to satisfy them... 2) None of the organizations ever have enough volunteers. There is always room for 1 more. 2a) Ask yourself how many times you've volunteered in the last 5 years or are you too important... *** 3) So now that we've tried the whining/arguing thing and we know how well that's worked... IMO It's time to man up and have the people making money off the sport crack open their purses and use it to enlist some pro's to help us in this fight. *** Example: PP was moved to appease the EXPO folk and their fans. Will we see those people who are now free to attend PP and offer their volunteer support to the event step up? And/or will they help bridge the financial loss to the charity due to the new dates conflict and the loss of entries? Or is this just another example of special interest and apathy or will they just be too important to get involved??? Will the vendors making their income off the community turn their backs now that they got their way just as they've done on this issue???

[QUOTE=ACME;1274969]It’s also very sad the people who make an income off the sport
I think ACME is on to something, The oil company's, Apple growers, Pork farmers, even the Dairy industry (Got Milk) as industries band together with money to lobby their entrusts to the government. It's not left up to the people that eat pork or drink milk to make sure they cant still get their favorite products. There are company's that have a vested interest in this sport continuing and that make their living from it. Parts Suppliers like Kartek, and McKenzies, Shock mfgs like King and Fox, chassis builders like Gieser, and Jimco. I don't mention these companies to single them out just to give an example. If they don't get involved in the fight than they are not worth our business. The letter writing to the BLM our Representatives should continue, but it should also contain letter writing to all the companies we do business with. Patronize the ones that step up and stop doing business with the ones that do not. There needs to be an offroad lobby payed for by the industry, that includes the companys and the race promoters.

This is true , the BLM is out to take out one promoter at a time ,If you think your guy is a saint and you are OK your next divide and conquer is the plain. Just to give you some in site on your safety issue all the claims are blown out of proportion , the company that was contracted to run the road xings were 15 minutes late , SNORE officials were dispatched to the sites and were there before any cars got there so it was safe or the hwy patrol that was on site would have stooped the event . At the pit d access one of the react members that were paid to be there was a no show but a snore official was dispatched to the location and arrived before the 1st car got there .

So think about who your pissed at. The guys enforcing the rules or the guys breaking them and ask them (SNORE) what they are doing to fix the problem.
How about it SNORE?
Snore has already decided not to use the certified flagging company again at road crossings and the react team will be replaced with a new security company . Don't be mad at SNORE because if the BLM went after any promoter with a vengeance they will find issues . One of the best infractions is SNORE paid the wrong post use fee and that is correct . With the 400 going into cost recovery and SNORE paying all costs occurred by the blm for the event there is no post use fee so they were over paid .

Re: We cant police ourselves, we have already lost the battle
By the way...The federal government has always used the "divide and concor" tactic. That way they don't have to do any work. You guys will do it all for them.
