I think I am good. I have a whole bag full of the hex head ones. I didnt know what they were for. I thought they were to put at the end of the tracks to slow down a passer by from stealing the horeshoe cleats. Lemme look around tonight and make sure I still have em. Ill let you know. Thanks Brian.
BTW, what are the hex head ones for anyway?

Re: Chase truck tips and tricks
One if the simplest and cheapest things I have done was I made a 25 ft steel braided cable with looped ends. I keep the cable and lock in a box under the extra cab back seats. Anytime and especially in Baja you can string the cable threw everything in the bed. This way if someone attempt's to grab your floor jack or tote they will not get far. Home Depot sells a 30ft Master Lock cable for around $20, or you can go to the chain and cable bulk section and buy how ever many ft of cable you want and crimp end fittings for under $10.
Several years back in front of our hotel outside of Ensenada someone tried to take my toolbox. We heard some noises when they tried to grab the toolbox as it tried to pull 500 lbs of other items out of the bed with it. The toolbox was in the bed right up against the tailgate. They did not even get the box on the tailgate before hauling butt. Since this time I changed the tail gate handle to one with a key lock. So it will just make it that much harder to grab something and pull it over the bed rails.

dont forget a solid antenna mount!
here's a cool design i did for a customer. it uses QD pins to lock the antenna in place and the bottom hinge point allows the antenna to be installed and hinged up . it makes a much easier time getting the antenna up and its a one person job now. fully raised it took the strongest wind gusts that plaster city could dish out, its so stout id chase with it up if there weren't power lines around the race course. beats the hell out of the tire holder mounts.

Dont know if it has already been mention but one of the most over looked things i see on chase trucks is a quick and easy shade, or umbrella. Making a mount in multiple places so the umbrella can be placed anywhere quick and be taken down quick, yes easy ups are very nice but take about 2-3 people to put up and take a while, and are very vulnerable to and wind.

Being a small team where we have to multipurpose everything, does anyone have any pictures of a chase rack on a pickup that can also pull a fifth wheel trailer?

Here are a couple pics of my F350 I have use to chase in Baja. I did the tube and fab myself.
The swing away tire holder is on the truck for normal day driving and I have the chase rack for Baja.

Husky makes a cool bag that organizes tools pretty well for the field. I've had it for a while and it rocks.
I picked up that very same tool bag....and dig it!....Sits flatter under my rear seat so I can fold it down to use the top for bulk stuff...
