    Chase truck tips and tricks

I just finished my chase rack for my truck and I was looking for some ideas, little tricks you guys use. Just in general for tool storage, parts bins, hardware boxes, anything you can think of. Thanks for the help guys.

The Rubbermaid storage boxes work good if you have the coin, and dont have a service/utility bed. If youre on a budget make friends with someone at a retail store and snag some of their shipping "totes". Mine have thousands of road miles and hundreds of on course recon miles and theyre still kicking with tons of fluids and parts. Tool wise I just bring a small box and make sure its strapped down tight and all the tools are padded and wont bounce around. Besides that put lots of hooks on there for anchor points since having a chase rack means youre gonna be most loaded down. Add boat seats and a bottle opener to the rack for more style points.

I saw a contraption in baja once. Hammock was hooked to the roof rack part of the chase rack. then there was a 4 tall "L" shaped square tube thing that wasnt really straight up and down. It kinda pointed back like a sissy bar you would see on a chopper. It slid into the receiver hitch and the top connected to the end of the hammock. I talked to the guy about it and he was very proud to show me that when removed it had a dedicated spot on the bed rail where it was stowed when not in use. Set right in some hooks and was held there with a couple pins. He did brag that he can still drive the truck with it set up.

Originally, i thought it was kinda a lot of work and what not for something like this but when I saw him laying in it i decided it wasnt and proclaimed he was the smartest man in baja. (he also had a clamp on mini beach umbrella for it which was clearly the crowning jewel of the contraption.)

I wished i had the pics of it but they perished when my old hard drive took a crap on me...

I have the umbrella part covered (I have since upgraded to a larger one) and I was going to build something to mount into the hitch like you described. Good seeing you at San Nicolas too Dan, if you remember LOL.

Lists, lists, and more lists. Information and triple checking checklists is worth more than money most times.

Nothing worst than forgetting some part or tool, or forgetting to check rear diff fluid or something silly that breaks because it was not checked.

Put your tools in a bag rather than a box. And get them from Harbor Freight, because you will undoubtedly leave about ten percent of them in Baja each trip.

Husky makes a cool bag that organizes tools pretty well for the field. I've had it for a while and it rocks.
