Electric power steering steering
Has anyone put a electric power steering in their car yet? I was checking out the Cobalt unit on another web site.

Re: Electric power steering steering
Have a link to the site? I have a Cobalt unit and could not figure out how to get it to work as a stand alone unit, it needs a lot of inputs from other onboard computers.
The smaller units like they make for Rhino's work well on smaller cars.

Re: Electric power steering steering
Unisteer makes one, Dan's performance Parts is going to run one on his Pro buggy, Not sure how heavy of a car they would work for, but like stated above they work on Race rhino's and other offroad toys very well. when/if they quite, they go to stock steering, not like power steering that gets harder when it quits.

I just put one on the Carlisle UTV, powered it up yesturday for the first time. It works amazing, this will be the wave of the future for lighter vehicles. when you are pushing the car around, you can turn on ignition and you have power steering, without having the engine running

I'm looking at options as we speak. What brand did you end up going with and are you still using a stock rack in conjuction with it?

I was about to pull the plug for my 1600 car when I bought my 10 car. I thinkmit would work great on the 16 car.

I used a setup like this on a 2100lb car for several years. It is still working fine. It has lasted through 8 or so races that I made it to with that car and never driven leisurely. Lots of hard prerunning and play running.

You don't have to use all the column parts. It can be broken down and adapted to. The ebay link is only for for the controller. Not the whole thing. It is made to work with the vauxhall corsa EPS. For some reason the vauxhall ones are easier to hack and be made to run independent of the BCM and ECM unlike the units available in junkyards here.
My whole EPS setup was in the neighborhood of $250-$300 shipped from europe somewhere. It was strong enough to turn the 33" Yok super diggers lock to lock sitting still when I was messing with the position sensor that ballances the steering without me even touching the steering wheel.

These are made by unisteer and were originally designed for older hotrods.
