    Putting a SOHC 4.0L into a \'93 ranger

Has anyone put a SOHC 4.0L ranger motor out of a newer ranger into an '93 ranger or similar? My '93 is equipped with a 4.0L already. What I would like to know is information on wiring harness, motor mounts, difference in weight, and anything else you can tell me about the swap.

yeah ryan... go big or go home! you already got a v6...swapping to another v6 aint worth it...thats like putting a 3.4 in the piece...in the end the amount of work and money is the same as dropping in a v8 with way more power

    Re: Putting a SOHC 4.0L into a \'93 ranger

Putting a 350 in there makes alot of sense for a couple reasons. First, they practically sell parts for a 350 just about everywhere. A water pump was the same for 30+ years, and they are about $15. You can build a 300hp 350 for around $1500. You said your ranger was a 93, so if you went to a 350 from a truck, with the TBI (used up to 95), it would be easy to deal with, and smog legal. If you wanted a port injection motor, you'd have to find an LT-1 from a Camaro or corvette. Alot more ponies, but alot more $$$ too.

The other thing is the street rod guys figured this out many years ago. The best of both worlds is the Ford 9" with chevy motor and trans. Runs easy, bulletproof setup, and parts are easy to come by.

Ya... I live in communist california... so that causes all kinds of problems if I want to keep it street legal (which I do). Luckily my smog is due right now... so I think will smog it, motor swap it and register it in Idaho in 2 years.

Gabes 5.0 ranger is smog legal. I think it was talked about here before in one of the "smog" threads. Basicaly a newer engine then the vehicle itself and then installed in OEM style.
