Just got back from the first show with it. Had a lot of fun and got a lot of feedback on which way to go with the resto. I even won an award.

Looks like the old girl is in remarkably original shape. How about a little backstory -- you know, where you found it, what it's been doing the last 30 years, etc.?

Sherman sold it to Don and Jim of Archer Brothers of Eugene, OR in 81. They raced it a few times iand then it was parked till 94-95 when Mr Scout bought it. It was parked in a barn until a couple of years ago. It sat outside for for the last 2 years. I bought it about 2 months ago. I'm not sure but I think this is the last race Scout that is still together from that era of racing 1977-1979. As I find out more I will post up. Always looking for more info.

That's great that it's survived all these years without being cut up or rusting out. I have seen pictures on the web of Frank Haworth's Terra race rig on display somewhere -- in very good shape. I have also heard, but cannot verify, that a Scout that was raced out of Colorado by Jerry Colton and others is still alive and well and in storage.

I won Judges pick for most extreme. Mind you it was an all International Harvester Show. Now that it's done I have started on the bodywork. Motor , trany and transfer only have about 10 hrs on them. Fuel tank is out new one is mocked up to go and have one built.

I have seen Jerry Colton's Scout II. I saw it in Aurora, CO probably 10 years ago. At the time, it belonged to John Glancy, of Super Scout Specialists who was racing a Scout II that belonged to Terry Hankins of IH Engine Skunkworks fame (this Scout had a "factory" modified 345 running 304 heads in it - required welding and grinding the intake ports to fit up, and ultimately wasn't a big performer, IMHO).

    "Hankins"

It was offered to me several times, but I was busy campaigning a "new" racing Scout II I had built, and had no interest in 30 year old racing technology, since I was trying to keep up with 20 year old technology instead.

The last I had heard on Jerry's Scout was that it went to Rickie Bordelon, of Light Line of Louisiana. What he's doing with it, I have no idea. Hmm.. or maybe it was Curt that bought it, to replace his racer? Dang memory..

Somewhere around Michigan or so is this Scout II. Curt Vroegop was racing it when I met him, but I forget who used to own the Scout.. I believe he lost the Scout in a divorce, and I have no idea where it wound up..

No one told me Balch's Scout would be at the Binder Bee... dang it. That would've been something cool to see!

I raced my old Scout II for 11 years, but finally decided to retire it last October after a barrel roll - the second time I've turned it over. The new one was already under construction, and I have convinced myself it is less work to finish the new one than to fix the old one.

Hey wb7766. I see you're a fellow Oregonian. Let me know if you're looking for scout parts. My old man was good friends with Ernie Bisio, and between the 2 of them, I "inherited" A lot of stuff. Some NOS, some used, and some junk lol.
