1977 F250 4x4 long bed La Paz race truck (any lead where it is)
I'm in search of the 1977 Ford F250 4x4 - La Paz Cocktail Mix race truck. It was burgundy with multi-colored race strips along the sides of the long bed. It was a mid engine baja race truck (the engine was moved to the bed area) any leads out there from anyone? *The truck was build by Lakeman Chassis in Fullerton, CA. **** FINDERS FEE **** SEE PIC
Please contact me if you can help me locate it....last known whereabouts was in Barstow, CA.
Thank You,
Kurt Kohler

Hi Class3Fan & NicksTrix.....I found the truck....it took me a 20 yr journey to locate it (looked for it on and off over the years)...started in 92' when I saw the ol'truck at a used car lot parked in the back. The Truck was raced by Larry Casey, Bob Robinson (Anaheim) and I'm sure a few other good ol' boys that I had never met. I first saw the truck when I was 9 or 10. I grew with a kid who dad raced it with Larry Casey (La Paz Cocktail Mixes) Lots more to tell but don't want to bore y'all with details. I "hope" to acquire the vehicle, restore it and to race it (a mid life crises 40's thing). I'll post a pic very soon. Thanks to all you guys out there in Off Road Land for assisting me....much appreciated. Sincerely, Kurt Kohler
Man, you're not boring me! I think this truck was called Tequila Sunrise, and if you look at some of the photos on Trackside you'll see that the offset dif was in back and the centered dif in front. Made me think they just flipped the whole body. There was a shot of this truck at Riverside aroudn 1979 or 1980 with the side of the bed torn off, and you could really see the engine behind the cab. I'd love to see photos -- post em, would you? Good luck.
I would love to see some pictures of the old beast. I helped Mike Casey (Larrys son) make the truck street legal. We took it to the CHP Station to get it inspected & signed-off. The place quickly emptied of officers who were not quite shure what they were looking at.....priceless. The guy with the clipboard kept saying "It's all there, but it just don't seem right".....yup, 1994 Barstow SCORE Fireworks 250...after our race, a guy introduces himself to Mike & I as "the guy who bought the mid-engine" (that's what we called it). He asked about where he could purchase parts fo it, lol. We told him it was all 1 off/ hand made. That was the last I ever heard of it.
Cool story.....I'll post pics very soon. The gentleman who approached you and Mike continues to own the Truck...a very cool guy. The truck is currently in AZ kept safe inside a garage. Rodney (Current Owner) is a BIG fan of the truck as well and has a good story of how he acquired it. Mike and Tim Casey are a few older than I, as I was 8-9 yrs old at the time I first saw the truck. An old friend of mine, Jeff Robinson and I used to have model building contests in tribute to the La Paz Cocktail Mix Race Truck....I didn't win much so, my models were blown up with fire crackers or an M-80....a grand send off in a 70's style/fashion. Jeff's dad, Bob Robinson used to race that ol' Mid-Engine Ford. "if" I'm able to acquire (afford) the purchase....I plan on restoring it to its glory and race it on the vintage circuit...show it and various off road shows/gatherings. The truck has been well preserved by an off-road fan (Car Guy) and I say that with the upmost respect....I hope to continue that should I acquire the truck.
Your picture files are not working. Larry Casey passed away in May of 2005...Tim is the BITD defending Stock Full champ & current class/ points leader in the La Paz Racing #8108 F-250. Tim & Mike continue to operate the family business in Brea, Ca. Please keep me updated on your mission........Dave.
