Class 9 getting started.......
HEY ALL!!!
I'm very serious about getting my off road racing career started! As far as I've seen through other posts, Class 9 is the place to start (both financially and technically I'm sure).
Just a quick background on myself:
My name is Richard, and I grew up in California before moving to beautiful Yucca, Arizona (Between Lake Havasu and Kingman; think golf ball house if you know the area, haha) when I was 13. I learned to drive on the back desert dirt roads, and eventually started playing around in my dads beat up F - 150 work truck, either going entirely too fast or throwing it side ways around corners. Now a days I'm a U.S. Marine (joined to hopefully be financially stable enough to do this), but every time I go home, the thing I enjoy the most is taking any vehicle I can get my hands on, down those dirt roads and giving myself a scare haha. I am about to be stationed at Camp Pendelton , and being so close to home I figured it is a good time to get this started.
I have been looking at the classifieds on here for a buggy, and I was just wondering if there is any things that will be completely necessary to accomplishing this goal, primarily other then a buggy and a trailer and my drive to compete.
Any info will be MUCH appreciated,
Richard Semides

Good Friends that are willing to help out is a true necessity!
In all reality I believe your budget will be your biggest factor in deciding what will be necessities and what will be luxuries.

Lots of friends that TRULY LOVE you !!!!!!! Patience, and a high frustration level.......
try to get with a team now when you can as you build so you get a idea of all involved. It is so much more than a trailer and race car and getting there...............GOOD LUCK

i think you're doing all the right things first by asking a lot of questions. folks on here won't point you down the wrong trail. when you do start seriously looking for cars, try to find one with a lot of extra parts and spares package included with it. and as stated already, you'll need lots of friends and it really helps a lot to have a strong hatred of money... it makes it easy to make it go away and out of your sight when you race. good luck to you sir.

Re: Class 9 getting started.......
Hey guys,
I appreciate the response, and not trying to be demanding or anything, but can I get clarification on a few things?
1. I figured that I would try to make some connections with people who are also interested in the sport, and that want to take part in this, but I don't understand the different things I will need them for. What will having good friends do for me? What will I need them for?
2. This is to randy s, what do you mean about the hatred of money? Just the fact that during the race you shouldn't be thinking about the cash aspect?
3. Is it pretty easy to be apart of a team? I have heard of a few teams down in the area I am going to be stationed, and hopefully I can help them out for some help in return, and make some connects, but I still don't understand the complete picture of how it all comes together.
Thanks for the help guys, and I appreciate all of you being so helpful. I hope I can one day return it.

Unless you are a animal and have a lot of talent and equipment you can not do it ALONE. Friends are needed, it is a lot of work and a lot of fun. GOOD friends are NEEDED two or three QUALITY friends are better than twenty who want to stand around drink beer and bs--Malcolm Smith raced for years with ONE chase guy, Scott McKenzie, and did pretty well !
2. This is to randy s, what do you mean about the hatred of money? Just the fact that during the race you shouldn't be thinking about the cash aspect?
You will spend a lot of it. Sacrifice a nice dinner for a new air cleaner or that trip to the beach with the wife for a new tire or ??? point is if you like to keep it in your wallet then this is not the sport. You win satisfaction and very little back. It is all about the adventure, the people you meet, and the places you get to go to that make it fun.

You are in the Mil and don't understand the TEAM concept? LOL
Go to a race or hook up with a RACER in here and offer to help. Learn how to set up a pit, work a radio, check the needed areas on the car, see how scoring is done and radio relays. Learn how to chase and logistics of a race. Your a marine, its called TRAINING !!!!!!! Doug is a book full of knowledge and will help you and a lot of people in here will welcome you in and show you the ropes. it is like anything else in life, the more you put into it the more you get out of it.......Just don't listen to that Giti person............................................ ..he is full of himself !!!!!! LOL

Yeah he is. I think that's why we keep him around.
By hatred of money, he means you're going to have to like getting rid of it. Many a $2 microwaved lunch has been eaten to save up for new parts for my car. Or even old parts for my car.
