Pastrana and the 1000?
Hard at work today I read Pastranas colum in Racer X mag. He claims to be racing in the 1000 this year with Bartram and some other guy I can't remeber. This should be interesting.

Thats pretty crazy. They will be good but I don't think that they can hang with Campbell and Hengeveld.

Metzger has always given the desert guys a good run. Also, dont forget Mike Healey, he transitioned very smoothly onto desert racing.
Dont count these guys out, it should be interesting, and hopefully this will be good for the sport.

Re: Pastrana and the 1000?
It will be interesting...if he preruns and finds the hotspots and gets used to high speed open desert racing...it will be a close race.
Give a supercross rider some time in the dez, racing some AMA national Hare and Hounds and after a few races I am sure they would be overalling them. Supercross guys are paid BIG BUCKS and most are conditioned tons better then top desert racers who dont get paid nearly as much if anything at all. In the desert, conditioning is what counts...
I think he will do well if he practices riding in the desert, preruns a lot, and prepares himself for it...otherwise hes gonna wad it up as usual.

"I think he will do well if he practices riding in the desert, preruns a lot, and prepares himself for it...otherwise hes gonna wad it up as usual. " My thoughts exactly.
Most of the top riders grew up in the desert, this gives a great advantage to being able to read the terrain. Also, a 300 mile stint (with silt beds) isn't quit the same as a 30 min. moto. You need to be able to pace yourself for when you really need it.

What bike would he be riding?? If he wants to hang, wouldn't he need to be on an XR 650?

Re: Pastrana and the 1000?
suzuki will probably pop him on their RMZ-450, and have baja designs do their magic. Pastrana is yellow to the core, and won't mount a red bike with all the factory backing he gets. IF he races with Bartram, it might be a different story, as he rides KTM. I can see doing baja alot easier on a 525 ktm, than a RMZ-450, that doesn't have alot of time under it's belt.

Re: Pastrana and the 1000?
It would be a VERY impressive showing though if the new RMZ actually finished though. Talk about an advertising dream for building a versitile bike!!

Re: Pastrana and the 1000?
There is another thread about this on RDC I jusk can't remember where. They are supposed to be racing a pro-truck or a trophy truck...not a bike.

Yeah, the last I heard was that he was racing a PT? Either way it would be cool to have him racing!
