2laps is that a total or the amount of laps you made in the Jeep ?

Re: EDR Texas 400 live race updates

If I remember correctly, 18 cars started and maybe 6-7 finished the race. The track was fast and rough. Some of the racers said by the middle of the day, the silt was horrible. Lot of vehicles broke engines or had other mechinical issues. Hear is what I can recount. Sorry if I get some of this wrong. Feel free to correct me.

Jon Sutton (515) and No-limits (Jeepspeed) started at 8am to give them enough time to finish in the 9 hr time limit as they were make the 60 mile course in about 1 hr and 30-40 mins. First off the line was Frick in his 10 car. During the 1st lap I heard he had about 6-9min lead on next car (cant remember but think it was another 10 car or the class 1 4 seater). I think the 10 cars started with a class 1, then some 16 cars, a Prediator, then class 8's

    - Frick's engine lost oil from an oil sensor that broke during 1st lap.

    - Jeepspeed lost oil out of valve cover fill hole and lost Horsepower after 2 laps. had to park it due to no HP to make it through the silt.

    - the V-8 S-10 chevy guy from N.M. lost his engine with a knocking sound mid way through the race.

-888 (Rich Adams) had his tranny almost fall off during 2nd lap I think, fixed it with 2 new bolts, then had a loud sound from rear end and discovered 3rd member bearing and out-put shaft were going out.

    - The Prediator went down for a while with some issues, but then got it running again. Not sure if they made the 6 laps in the time limit.

-The Bronco guys waited for a brake caliper to be overnighted in and started mid-day and ran strong until the cut off time at 6pm. I think they made 2-3 laps before cut off time.

    - 515 Bug went out on lap 4 with overheated engine and oil coming out the breather.

-The red bug (class 5 or 5 unlimited) was hauling the mail on a fast section near the highway doing about 55-60mph. Hit some whoops and rolled the car about 5 times and landed on their lid, no one was hurt. Car showed little damaged compared to how fast he was going and how many times it rolled. I'll post pics soon.

    - Kyle Norman (class 1450) had engine issues with a leaky thermostate housing, worked all night to fix by cutting studs/bolts and re-tapping. Could get fixed before start, then got it fixed but he jumped in with John Clark while I worked on electrical issues, so his truck never entered race.

    - Joey (Class 8) got a flat, ran out of gas and had to walk a mile to get dump can, but then found out it was not out of gas but thought fuel pick up might be cracked. They made it 2 laps in 4-5 hrs. Got running again, then noticed engine over heating. Had to stop and noticed rear upper shock mount broken (but wadged in the frame in a way that the suspension still worked) and the eletrical wire for the radiator fan was ran through shock mount and got disconneted thus overheating engine. Reconnected but I think by then it was close to the cut off time.

It was a great race and I especially enjoy the last part of the race when Race and Jay (he was in front) battled it out. It was cool as everyone could see the battle from the pits. Thanks to John Clark for all his hard work, all the helppers, and the ranch owner for allowing us to come out there.
Breaking parts WAS half the fun! Now it just suxs....

Sounds like another tough Odessa race. Wish we could have made it out to see everyone. But, I'm just too busy trying to get the new shop setup and get caught up on commitments to prep my own stuff right now. Hopefully we'll be racing again soon!

Re: EDR Texas 400 live race updates

I also heard that the EDR track in No Trees/Odessa was one of the fastest tracks in Texas. I also understood that the track was built with all types of race vehicles in mind. Since there is soooo much land, you don't have to build switch backs as much. There was fast straights and the track was very wide. This is what I heard from alot of the drivers. I wish I was there to race it but next season, The Short Bus Race Team will be there!

With my son getting older (5 months + now), I will have time to go out and volunteer more for EDR in the next season. Looking forward to it.

Can't wait to race against the folks that started off-road racing in Texas...EDR!

I had problems signing in to account. I wanted to thank John C and all at EDR for what was the best, longest and toughest desert course in Texas to date. This had it all fast long sections, woops, off camber, you name it was out here,

Re: EDR Texas 400 live race updates

Again, Thank you to John, Tammy, Angie, Kyle, Page and all others for the great work out at the track. Thanks to the sponsor for put up the 10 grand in prize money ( the largest prize money and the longest race in Texas) and all the prizes that were put out at the event. John thank you for letting me go a lap with you in your truck, your a great driver (It was impressive) and competitor, and that what helps in designing a course, you know what makes for fun racing and you work that into the course. Keep up the great work I know it tough but alot of us really enjoy and appreciate what you have done for Texas racing. Again I raced them all in Texas and this was by far the best course.

You might want to check that one.... everyone that was racing in the mid 80's just outside San Antonio.... raise your hands. JC has done tons to help the sport in Texas, but he didnt invent it. Stop by Buggy Warehouse and talk to Steve Foster.... or Allen Anglebert.... Greg Atwell... all racing way prior to EDR.

Now that killer Odessa course on the other hand.... JC is the man for creating that. I heard alot of good things about it from racers last weekend.
    See you in the dirt!

There a blast from the past. Buggy raceway. Steve Foster!! Out by the little town of Sawyers was it? I race bikes out there. But that was short track not even a mile long. I believe Mr. Texas is refering to desert racing as I take it. Still buggy raceway was a blast and Steve was blazing fast. Need to track him down and get him to race with us now he was alway fun.

Re: EDR Texas 400 live race updates

Off-road racing has been an on again off again thing in Texas for the last 30 years under several different promotors and organizations. The problem is they all go away because of low car count and high expenses. We need to have BRT and EDR get together to have a mutually beneficial schedule and rules setup so racers can make any race they want to (hopefully all of them) and keep the great places we have to race open. It would be great to have four races next year in four different locations, each with 60+ entries. And this is completely possible.

    Steve,

I guess I'm just not as old as you guys to know that and from what I heard about the SA short track, not sure if I would really compare that racing to what EDR hosts around Texas.

From what I know, EDR is the oldest, safest, and longest off-road race organization in Texas.

    Take care...
