Welds rust?
Just a quick question. When I'm done welding on anything with my wire feed it looks like there is rust on it. My welds look good it just looks like there's rust on them. Am I doing something or not cleaning enough or something?

Re: Welds rust?
Did you wire brush them after? Should come right off.

Re: Welds rust?
How long after are you talking about. . .immediately after or days after?
If it's immediately after then it's silicone (IIRC. . .it's been a while since I was in welding school, but I asked about this at the time and I'm pretty sure that's what I was told) and it will wire brush right off.

Its silica slag (like glass), a by product of the welding process. Wire brush it off and it should be ok.

Silicon. Silicone is for caulking your bathtub.

So wire brush it and then silicone them? You mean the spray silicone lubricant stuff?

Re: Welds rust?
No, the brown stuff is silicon. . .just wire brush the silicon off and you will be fine (you're fine without wire brushing the silicon off, but your welds will look prettier without the little brown spots on them).

Ok on to my next question. What should I put on my chassis if I'm not going to paint to keep it from rusting. I see lots of trucks with bare metal and no rust????? Thanks for the help guys.

WD-40 seems to be pretty popular on here. . .
