Is the fuel your referring to, gas (fuel) which is intended for use by the general public in domestic cars or is it sold as "Race Gas" or "Race Fuel"? IMO pump gas is commonly known and should be limited to a maximum of; a standard "Supreme" grade gasoline of 94 octane or lower purchased at a traditional "gas station". I also believe all common consumer grades of traditional "on the road" gas are a clear or slight yellowish tint and not green/blue/red or purple and the fuels in addition to a normal color should be available at any gas station not just a select few outlets... Example: Since Av-Gas is available at a dozen places in Parker or Havasu IMO it is still not considered normal "pump gas". I realize I haven't raced a swinger in a few years but do the trickest/newest dual ports at 7.5:1 compression now require more than supreme?; if so no wonder all the trannies are blowing?
If running race/higher octane fuel makes that much of difference at 7.5:1 compression then wouldn't the racer that can only get 91 at the pump instead of 94 be at a huge disadvantage. I know that fuel sold outside of CA has a lot more bang. Who has the fuel analyzer because with a flashlight at a night race fuel can become all kinds of different colors.

100 octane unleaded can be purchased at the pump in California, or at least it could a few years ago. I know the C.L. Bryant had it at the pump in Fresno. I think it's a waste and makes less power because of the higher combustion rate but I do know 1 team that runs it. Not me, I was running 87 for a while 'til my engine guy freaked. lol
If you can't afford it, make it!!!

Re: 2012 Big Race Thread MORE Barstow July
I have heard from a few engine builders that running race fuel 110 or C12 will produce a bit more power, noticeable I think not. I have never ran anything other than 91 octane and see no need to start now. Lets make these rules known now so there is no confusion later. Jeff and Doug will be more than equiped to accomidate ALL our needs

class 11 went threw this fuel thing and high octain gas sold at the pump is fuel sold to the general public for use in domestic old cars like Vws that were not intended for unleaded fuel. You can pump it rite into your mustang or camero and drive with a smile, the same for any non cataletic converter car! Being class 9 is limited to 7.5 1 it would do nothing but run a little cooler than a stock compression motor will run now and would be no advantage and a waste of money. You would lose your argument that only low octain no octain fuel is used for domestic cars.. I herd Bud uses jet fuel and he is sure to need it! its getting closer Bud!

It's the 76 gas station at the corner of Citrus and and E Garvey Ave. (South Hills Unocal 76 - 150 South Citrus Street, West Covina, CA 91791 (626) 339-8018). Just South of the 10 FWY off the Citrus Exit. It's listed here on the Sunoco website as selling their "GT100" Gas: http://www.sunocoinc.com/Site/Consum...California.htm . Last time I passed by I didn't look at the price but it's usually about $8.00/gal.
Since I've never bought any their post up if you do end up buying some!!!

Just drove by and the going rate is $9.25/gal
At a rate of 5mpg a 200 mile race will cost $370 using this "race gas". Super @ $4.25 would cost about $170. Do the "benifits" out weigh the cost?

Re: 2012 Big Race Thread MORE Barstow July
For a class 9 motor no way is hi octain race gas worth it or a benifit. By rules class 9 does not need race fuel for any reason. Race fuel keeps hi comp motors alive, I run unleaded in my street bug with the same compression as a class 9 and drive it 60 miles a day with zero ping. A class 9 is wasting money running super, regular unleaded will be just fine for any legal class 9 engine,. I do not believe any class 9 motor gets 5 mpg, no way. I drive my bug full throttle everywhere and up to 90 mph on the freeway and get at least 30 mpg doing it

Before we move on, are we clear with saying that 91 octane fuel is the highest octane allowed? Just so there is no confusion.
