Re: 2012 Big Race Thread MORE Barstow July
So here's the poop per what I discussed with MORE on post tech:
The 9 cars will have a seperate post tech space adjacent to the post tech area which is fenced off. Only the banded DOR/Co-Driver and 1 mechanic/person in per car will be allowed in and no alcohol. you can go out to hug the wife, kiddies, signifcant other, soul-mate or "friend". This is a MORE rule and if it gets out of hand you may be penalized...
We will be holding the top 10 cars and teching the top 5 cars at the finish until a legal top 5 is declared. We will let you know at post tech what the duties or requirements will be, but be prepared with tools for wahtever might be required. Also we will weigh the top 5 cars and you will need to provide your own cans to store and way to remove your fuel. All cars will be weighted "dry" without: Spares, tools, spare tires, jacks, water etc... Safety/medical materials will be left in the cars and the cars weighed per the rules and we will review and verify everything is removed and all fuel pumped out. All else will be as raced and as they came off the course. No exceptions for lost parts such as: Floors, lights etc... and no oddities like a 26lb rock that happened to land on the floor near the pedals... If it ran lights, they stay on but you will not be able to add any lights or parts in post tech other than you may replace a flat tire with the same size tire and the weight will have no exceptions; min weight rules apply period: It's either legal or not. We will then plan on doing a numer of items which we will disclose at the finish to the top 5 competitors and all the top 5 will have the same duties to perform. It may include some of the following: Measure WB, check fuel (visual), carb, trans wheeled, P&G, check rocker assy, valve covers, intakes (no cut-modified), inspect/cc/ heads, inspect-measure valve train, measure shocks, width; until a top 5 have been delared legal. So have your tool/materials prepared for the post tech as these requirements will be need to be done immediatley and without question. At this time the goal is to not disclose what we plan to post tech so you guys need to be prepared for whatever is required. We have seen a huge disparity in post techs over the years from association to association and the goal of having a 3rd party review this, is to make sure whomever finishes in the top 5 is without question legal. We've seen, heard and watched the bithching and bickering and felt it was time to see who was the fastest legit competitor and to make sure the rules were being followed. MORE's tech team will handle the functional side while we review and liase the rules between the competitors and MORE. I will be there all day and be at SF for both the start and when the first 9 car crosses the line. We will hold all the top 10-9 cars until a top 5 have been teched and deemed legal. If a competitor refuses to submit to the inspection process or it is found their vehicle does not comply with the rules; MORE will D.Q. that competitor on the spot after reviewing the information. I will be there to discuss it with the competitor and enforce any decision. If there is a protest beyond the post tech process and between competitors, that will go through the normal MORE process and if you would like my input: I would be more than happy to assist. However, our primary goal is just to ensure compliance to the class rules and enforce whatever the established post race tech protocol is. We are not on a witch hunt and if we decide on doing lets say; 5 different inspections for post tech, Example: Weight, WB, Wheel Trans, inspect fuel and P&G and someone then protests a fellow competitor and wants to see his heads. That will be outside of what we had planned and it would go through the normal MORE protest/appeal process.
Email or call me: [email protected] or 626 513-6455 and I'll respond as soon as possible.
