Just for fun. I know it's not relative, but how do you think they would compare in a dezert race?

The motors in Minimags weren't the most reliable. If you had one with a newer Yamaha 4 stroke twin from a snowmobile it would kick the crap out of a RXR.
Awesome thread! I don't know about 'kick the crap out of...' but it would be interesting. Someone post up the specs on a Mini Mag for comparison. Weight, width, height, hp, wheel travel, brake type, etc. Did a M.M. have reverse? Only came in as a single seater, right? One advantage the MM has is wheels and tires. Are those 31's? What size wheels...15's?
Minimags had there own spec tires from MT. I belive they were 29". Ever see a 1600 car go skipping over the whoops past a sportsman truck? Thats about what the Mini would look like going past a RXR. The only place the RXR would hold the advantage would be silt or deep mud.
Edit, They still make the tires.

Post up the specs and we will compare them on paper at least.
Scott with PCI started racing with the Chenowth Mini Mag. I bet he would know the specs on them. I dont know what happened to make the Mini Mag class not survive? These things raced everything from Riverside to Baja.
Here is a Mini Mag You-Tube video I found,
"If off-road racing is outlawed only outlaws will race off-road."
The wheelbase appears to be longer than a typical UTV but I doubt if the suspension would be as good as say a stock Polaris XP.Also I think they ran a 2cylinder 800cc 2 stroke snowmobile motor which would probably be similar in HP to todays performance UTV.
