On one of the links above, I read that they ran 570cc Yamaha 2-stroke Exciter snowmobile engines with up to 100 hp. These were twins. PBP said that the engines were not very reliable. It also depends if you are comparing a Mini Mag to a stock RZR XP or to a race ready XP.

Ok, so the Mini is a couple hundred pounds lighter and has a couple more inches of wheel travel than a stock RXR. And slightly less HP in endurance for. The lower weight would more than make up for the lower HP.
To make a modern reliable version a 500 Yamaha twin sled motor makes 85HP and way more torque than the old 2 smokers did. Should be close to the same weight. If you wanted to get really froggy, they have a tripple with 150HP......... Also, the clutches they have now are vastly supperior to what they had then.

What size wheels...15's?
Having raced a Mini Mag one once I could not imagine a RZR staying anywhere close. They were light a nimble and an absolute blast to drive......unless you need to get on top of the big ones. There is no way in hell a RZR could keep up on a race course.
By the way the Parr's still have (2) complete cars plus enough parts to build a 3rd for sale. They are in Costa Mesa these days.

If you get the opportunity, I would encourage to drive the new RZR XP 900
They continually blow people away, with their nearly 90 hp, 1200 lbs and 14" of wheel travel...stock, with a warranty. I do like the wheelbase, wheel/tire combo and light weight of the mini mag.
Fun thread...kind of like comparing Kobe to Michael Jordan.
BTW, UTV racing is starting to really explode...nearly 50 UTV's at the Lake Elsinore GP, 45 UTV's at the WORCs race, and consistantly getting 15+ at most of the BITD races.

Throw the Wildcat into the mix with 18" of rear wheel travel and 17" in the front and their 1000CC (which is highly choked out from the factory) and you have another UTV to throw into the mix....... Mini Mag is bitchen, but I would take the new UTV technology and save my kidney's a beating!

Re: Chenowth Mini Mag VS RZR 900
I just rechecked the title to this thread to make sure we I was in the right place.
I looked on the Mickey Thompson website and those cool Mini Mag tires are only 27" tall and are bias ply. Now if someone would make a 29" or 30" version of that tire in a radial for UTV's...we would have something. LT tires are too heavy for UTV's.
The other cool thing that UTV's have over the Mini Mag is...a green sticker, a title, a warranty, two seats and 4wd. You can race 'em AND take them to the desert and the dunes legally with multiple people enjoying the experience.

Versatility is definitely advantage RZR.
Also of note the Mini Mag I drove was actually running 33" MT Baja Pros on it.
