Desert Runners Racing Class 5 Unlimited Build
OK folks, we have just obtained a 4130 1.5" tubed class-12 chasis. Present wheel base is 112" so it will be shortened. The plan is to build her into a class-5 Unlimited racer utilizing/canabalizing our full bodied class-5U we have been racing for over a year in SNORE and MORE. We have been successful and had lots of fun, but are tired of getting whipped by full chasis Baja Trophy-cars... So here we go...Pictures and data to follow...

At least throw a picture of what you have been working with and the new frame so we can see what is going on.
Nikita Khrushchev said"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism. "

Re: Desert Runners Racing Class 5 Unlimited Build
Here are pics of our original car now being canabalized...full chasis and pan with full metal body...can you say heavy! It works as one badass prerunner and served us well as an entry level racer, but it is time to move on...
Now we need to decide...build it as a class-12 car or go class-5 Unlimited again...
Pros and cons include having to rebuild motor to class -12 specs if we go that way... Reduced cost of not having to buy new class 5 fiberglass panels...but we can keep her street legal if we make a baja again... Comments?

Re: Desert Runners Racing Class 5 Unlimited Build
Here are a few pics of the new chasis. The front beam was not up to task..looking for a HD/king kong beam...had a Kartek one on the old car...need a 10" over stock width...TJ Flores has offered to build me one, but I need one ASAP so I can start building...at a stand-still until I obtain one. Also selling most of the shocks from the old car so i can get bigger ones...looking for a 14" King triple bypass for rear and a 10" King coilover remote res for front...

Are you sure you should not be heading toward a 16" by-pass and maybe a 3.0??

Re: Desert Runners Racing Class 5 Unlimited Build
Three things are making me consider the shorter shocks, though I have not committed yet because the welder hasn't put steel to steel...first, I have a King 12" coilover 2.5 from my old car (I'd still need a 14" bypass with this combo); second I am running 930 CVs and not sure they can take more articulation; Third, 3.0s are expensive (we're on a tight time and money budget) and a little heavier...not sure if that is enough justification...I have also considered the 16"/14" combo in 2.5 too...thoughts?

I am also selling my fox 10" 2.0 from the old car on the classified section there at RDZ

The fox shocks are 10" double bypass 2.0 pros ($700) and the 10" external res coilovers are 2.0 Pros with 350LB/450LB eibach springs
($750).
