Glen Helen Night race this year I invited a dozen of my close friends who are race fans but not devoted to off road like I am. All of them showed up for the pro races and thought the racing action was fantastic. However, across the board they all had the same complaints. 1. Too long between races. Previous posts said 5-15mins, no way more like 15-25min. 2. Most of my guests knew Rob Mac, Deegan, etc but none of them knew which class they ran in and which vehicle they drove. The only driver car combo they recognized was Carl Renz. So, I think the idea of pre race staging in front of stands is a great idea. 3. The night race was too long/late.

Larger Numbers on side of trucks (Nascar Style). I love the fact the energy drink companys invest so much in our series, but when you have 2 monster energy trucks, 2 redbull, and 2 rockstar trucks on the track it's hard for the casual fan to know who's who. For Example, at Vegas we were half way through the pro 2 main before anyone in my crew figured out who was driving the white & black Losi truck. We had no idea Naughton changed paint schemes, we just figured he didn't show up. In NASCAR everyone knows who drives 88, 18, 24 (for example) no matter what color the car is that weekend. The action on the track is too intense for the size of the current vehicle #'s, or I'm just too old to figure it out.

More promotion on Drivers and Teams. I think they should provide programs with qualifying order insert to the fans. Sell advertising to cover the cost of printing. In any racing series the fans have their favorite drivers, our series is no different. Meet & Greet for the premier classes in a must.

Add another Big Sceen, jumbo tron. Probably muy expensive, but adds a lot of entertainment value to the live fan experience. Possible show running order of the race or add camera to hot pit area for the fans in the stands.

There are a lot of good ideas on this thread! Hope Lucas is paying attention.
I think a live timing board for fans would be awesome. Top ten even. I know that the content is there through my laps. But a tower showing it would be very cool. Also would help the spotters as well Just my .02

So my idea could work then.

I like the live scoring tower idea, kinda like supercross.

In 30yrs of involvement putting on SC races the one key element to keeping the fans interested and returning time and time again is handing them that free program when they enter the gate. During down time in the action thet can read driver bio's, sponsor ads, classifieds, class discriptions, saftey rules, event scheduale and the days itinerary. It can be black & white or full color fold out poster to take home, its just another detail for the promoter to take care of but a very nessecary piece of the total package to get the potential fan up to speed and informed. Its usualy easy to find a sponsor to take care of this detail.

As a racer, I love the programs as well. It's one of the only ways the fans get to know things about us, and it not only gives them something to read on down times, but it's something that is easy for them to have racers sign as a momento, also. It would be great to have these brought back....

Looks like there will be a small program for the challenge cup next weekend. And I think we might see a reocurring deal works for next season.

I have been to every LOORRS event ever held. IMO they have the between race operation dialed in to a science. Dealing with so many variables is incredibly challenging.

Also LOORRS featues a lot of class variety. This aspect provides a lot of steam for the series to keep rolling. It gets complicated quickly.

Dan, are you referring to staging on the front stretch and the water trucks? I would say that it could but the biggest problem with putting any cars on the track is that it will slow down the track work. The heavy equipment must be able to move quickly and safely completely around the track right up until the start of the race. Parading 15-20+ racecars out to the front stretch blocks off that part of the track...I am not saying it wouldn't work, it would just take a lot of coordination between track crews, the race director and equipment operators...and between races, all of these people are very busy already...

    Re: Competition Caution

The grooming time is definitely the worst part of the live show at the LOORRS and TORC races. They could stagger fast and slow classes so they only have to groom for every other race. A lot of dirt oval tracks have built in watering systems. Every successful dirt oval promoter I've heard says that having a three hour show (7PM-10PM) is key to having fans come back. They run races basically non stop, so do some motocross races I've been to.
These tracks should be built so the fans can see the whole track, like at the oval tracks and Bark River and AZ. Crandon and some of the LOORRS tracks are only about 50% visible for the spectators.
Competition caution is probably a good substitute for not having multiple heats and a feature. With so many classes and relatively few cars it's more practical. The races should always have a full (or larger) inversion on points like CORR did to make them more exciting though.

    Re: Competition Caution

It is a (off-road) race. the track prep work IMO should be just watering and minimal grading. tune the cars to the track, not tune the track to the cars.
