Every successful dirt oval promoter I've heard says that having a three hour show (7PM-10PM) is key to having fans come back. They run races basically non stop, so do some motocross races I've been to.

yes but the track only blue-groves and the race line moves up as the night goes on. a SC track gets gaping ruts in the corners. at the PRO motocross races they do track maintenance. but only in the areas that need it the most, not the whole track. even monster jam has down time for maintenance. i see no way around it.

The grooming time is definitely the worst part of the live show at the LOORRS and TORC races. They could stagger fast and slow classes so they only have to groom for every other race.

IMO that's not a bad idea. but down time sells beer. maybe more going on for the spectator to get involved in during down time. like nascar or nhra they have a crap load of interactive stuff going on out side the race. get your photo taken in a pro4, how fast can you change a tire, sign up for a mail list get a free bag, truck and car show, band, model contest. what happened to the good old days of motor sports when down time included a wet T contest. I know family fun. ever been to an event were you can text a message and it comes up on the jumbotron? surprisingly fun during down time. i like the idea of a program.

the classes are already staggerd for that reason. thats why they run in the order that they do. if they ran p4 then p2 there would ba even more down time.

It is a (off-road) race. the track prep work IMO should be just watering and minimal grading. tune the cars to the track, not tune the track to the cars.

The main downside of not grooming is that it becomes a one lane track. Having raced at tracks that groom for every race and tracks that do no grooming, I think it could be drastically reduced from what TORC/LOORRS does. The reason the all day show works for Crandon and Bark River is that the fans camp out all weekend.
The classes I was thinking of not grooming after would be light buggy, karts, etc that don't really tear up the track.

Gotta disagree with ya on this one,the track needs grooming,watering and grading to make for good racing and to keep the racers from complaining. If the track gets too rutted theres to many rollovers to many cautions and to much wrecked equipment and not enough challenging for positions,nothin worse than a big ole game of follow the leader.

I agree with wheeli. Even with maintenance, some tracks get torn up before the midpoint of the race. Downtime needs to be filled by having different activity to involve or entertain spectators. Since a lot of families with children(me included) are attending, the downtime gives parents a chance to get the kids whatever they need.

Need? More like want, which is usually everything....lol.

Last Labor Day weekend Nissan was at Crandon. They had a few cars on display. You could also respond to a quick survey to get a bag and a ticket to try out the race simulator. People were all over that. The kids loved it too. And it gave people something to do between races. Could have more of that at the off road races. It would get people to come earlier and stay later. And we all know as long as people are there they will be buying food and drinks which in turn helps the tracks make more money.

then lets just go ahead and remove the jumps and whoop section while were at it.
