Re: Penalty , DQ or whats your honest opinion
The roof sheet metal is there to do the same as the nets ( you think if you rolled on youre side that the net would stop a boulder?). The nets and roof are to keep youre hands and arms inside the vehicle. If you want to race without nets then get wrist restraints. As for the roof, it also is used as a number plate ( read the section on numbers), but i believe the reason for stopping someone is the same as the nets, at least that is what would make sense to me.
WHEN YOURE RACING YOURE LIVING, EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST WAITING!! In memory of B.J. Bates.

On the subject of the roof not being important, I'll agree with Keith on this one. Ever seen a driver unconscious hanging upside down in a race car? Where are his arms? Keith and myself, along with a few other racers saw first hand at the 2007 PRIMM 300 when the class 1 car flipped and it ended up be fatal for the co-rider. If your involved in a multiple rollover and knocked out (with no roof), your arms will make there way OUTSIDE of the race car....not good. I have no dog in this fight, I was racing in class 12 and got my a s s handed to me by some GREAT drivers! Lets keep it safe out there and stay consistant on rules being enforced. No hate on this side of the fence..........

KOOK!
Re: Penalty , DQ or whats your honest opinion
Most of the time you need a roof to cross the finish line. At least that's what we understood. For classes that rolling or flipping and losing a roof is common we carry spares.
No kidding. We got so tired of ziptying cardboard to the roof just to finish that making 2 spare roof panels that can be zues fastened or zip tied on is your best bet. Especially for a smaller car like a 1/2 1600 or a 12 car
Cut some aluminum, drill some holes, bring it with you to all the races and keep it at your main pit.

SCR37 Drivers Compartment Roof must have a positive latch no Velcro. And roof must be properly
attached at all times during the event.
I agree the tin roof will not stop a basketball sized rock coming thru the roof and hitting your head if you roll, it it there just like the window net's to keep your hands in, just like Rory said if your unconcious and upside down your hands are dangling.... Whether it is a DQ or Penalty, I don't know...

Exactly. Been there, done that. I send it with the spare tires to the pits.

How about making a rule that says roofs be sealed and you only go in and out through the window. I think off-road is the only motorsports where driver/rider enter/exit through the roof (as an option, and not like trucks). Correct me if I'm wrong.
And make sure you wear your seat belts during the whole race too.
