The gear ratios are limited, but the main reason not to use them in a race or prerunner application is you're running on the coast side of the gear so the are weaker..

Update - The second set of Motive gears were whining more than the first set. So I ended up taking the diff to ORW in Escondido and had Ken check it out. He made some changes and now its better but still makes some noise. It's more noticeable at lower speeds and not so much on the highway so I will run it until I change gears after the LS2 goes in.

Next project, new brake lines & mount Vision X LED bar on the front bumper.

they are all going to make that noise. i have had 2 sets of 5:88 so far and they all make that gear noise. when you have a fully built linked, solid mounted cage, and low gears, its going to whine. i tried all different types of oil, had the gears reset. everyone sounded a bit different but its there.

for short drives its ok. for the long ones, i bought a intercom.

I've had an intercom since I built the truck. The old rear end had 5:29's in it. When I first built it they whined like it does now. They were Yukon gears and I heard they weren't very good after I had the diff put together. So I had them replace them right away and the new set were quiet, didn't hear anything. It was great the last 4-5 years until now with the new rear end. I think its a combination of the 6:00 ratio and Motive. I have heard of allot of people having problems with Motive's making noise. But some do have quiet ones also.

If you figure it out let me know! The only thing free was the Redline oil because a guy I took machining classes with works there. I did get a couple of discounts which helps.

I'm on a tight budget like most people. That's why my LS2 has been sitting in the garage for about a year and I still don't have a 4L80E to go with it...

my prerunner sounds like a raped old woman going down the road. 4.88's, locker, tubeworks, not much can be done i don't guess. bfg projects yelped big time turning. switched to a little narrower goodyear 37x12.50x17 race tire and it's alot better.
