Default budget buggy

i started this project a year ago with never building anything for the desert/ sand and on a budget of $5000. i looked on the internet a bit to get some ideas then just started building. this was originaly going to be a sand only buggy but now im getting more into desert racing im starting to change alot of stuff and adding stuff. im just now getting to work on it again, since may i havnt touched it. there are some older pics from before and some new ones. im just a hair over my budget right now (wich i think is pretty good)

thanks! in the front it will have 24" and the rear it will have around 18"-20". the motor is a vortec v6 with a modified corvair transaxle. the transaxle has a bigger input that is moved to the front from the back so it is for mid engines. the transaxle was original built to go in a 450hp full tube street car. i know its not the strongest and best geared but im on a budget and it was free.

Great looking buggy! Should be lots of fun. Even if you creep up to 10K...still cheaper than a rhino...and it's your own creation!

Are you using all mild steel? I will be one to admit to buying steel from the scrap yard Scrap yard steel is good for tons of stuff. For the critical stuff i use new steel so i know what I am dealing with. I have got 100s of pounds of clean rust-free cold-rolled steel plate (1/8 and 3/16th) from my local scrap yard....but of course I have no idea what alloy it is.

it will have 4" at full bump with 33" tires. im using u-joint style axles instead of cv's, becouse i can make them myself and the parts are cheeper.

im using all DOM tubing and mild plate. the plate ranges from 16g, 12g, 10g, 3/16". i think using mild will be plenty strong for what im doing with the car.

be careful with the mild plate i seen a plate on the extreme performace class 5 that was made for a limiting strap mount shear off just might have to go a little overkill if you are using mild
