An extra two inches always helps bud! In more ways than one!

Fort Mill, SC - December 19, 2011. General Tire and Baldwin Motorsports will amicably part ways at the end of this year. Following extensive internal discussions, officials at General Tire determined that they need to focus on fulfilling the needs of the high consumer demand for General Tire products and are unable to accommodate the product request required by Baldwin Motorsports by the beginning of the 2012 season.

“We did not make this decision lightly,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing, General Tire. “At the end of the day, we made the decision to use our development resources & manufacturing facilities to meet the high consumer demand for our product right now. While we’re sorry to see BJ leave, we are thankful for what he has done for our brand and wish him all the best.”

I don't get it... Was he asking for a new tire? (i'm guessing a 39 0r 40 in one) or was it the quantity of product he wanted?

What's the track record for 39" tires? Pretty good... May just be that "extra" piece of the puzzle of "putting it all together", like a shock package, tranny/engine change, suspension geometry change, or co-driver change, etc???????

So is he blaming GT for not winning? That's kinda what I gathered from the press release. Anyone else read into that?

Where do you get Toyo from other than speculation?

I heard he will be on 39.5 super swampers in 2012.

I doubt quantity was the problem with being GT's number 1 guy.

Nope. TO me it implies GT wants to take a large chunk of the budget and put it to what GT considers better use.

I dont get that press release at all. Much info missing...

It kinda seems like it was saying they dont have the ability to make tires for consumers because of BJ? DOes that make sense?

I read they can't accomodate his request for a larger tire, not a qty issue...Real question is larger tires not coming from GT?

so GT won the championship on 37's twice? correct, and they are unwilling to make a 39" and supply them to the Baldwins for another year?

Its simple. For GT to make a new tire size 39-40 it would take MILLIONS of dollars and much of their resources. They would rather catch up on their huge demand for their other products at this time where they MAKE $$.

It just seems weird... General has thrown soo much money around at off road for a while now... But I have also heard stories of regular folks not being able to find a set of red labels to buy...

I see the consumer market for 37" much higher than for 39" that why they don't want to invest in tooling to make a 39" just for racing

Will be curious how much more support is thrown to current GT tire racers... Definitely a game-changer in off-road.

Hopefully the growing pains of changing to a bigger tire aren't too long lasting for the Baldwin Team.
