Set in Jacume Baja Mexico the 9th running of the ORW Lazo de Amistad Grand Prix was as always a great event.
Lazo de Amistad translates to “tie of friendship” as this race originally was a joint effort between the FUD and CODE series to bring together the racers from both countries. With Fud’s passing CODE carried on the race and the racers from both countries kept coming. A “GP” style two-heat format on a 21mile course would keep the racing action packed and the spectators happy and this year’s event would be no different.

Steven Eugenio, Overall winner
Kyle Conlon took the win 1600 ending with style points and throwing down the x-up at the big “leap” at the finish. “It’s for the fans” said Kyle “all for the fans, but seriously I’m happy this is my first win in Baja, great race!”
One thing that stood out at this weekend’s race was how much everyone was into it. From tech/contingency, the race, and most particularly the awards. In a day where big time racers and teams don’t even show up to claim their trophy at some of the biggest off road races in the world, the CODE awards were packed with everyone who participated, helped, and volunteered. The people cheered and applauded for everyone who came up to claim their prize followed by a shower of cold Tecate and hugs from their friends and family. The spirit of racing lives strong in Baja, you don’t need a Trophy Truck to feel it.
