San Felipe, Baja California Mexico
Broc Dickerson has years of short course racing experience, but the SCORE San Felipe 250 was his first attempt at racing in the desert. He took on a tough field stacked with talent to win on the brutal San Felipe 250 course. Another Brock, Brock Heger, stunned everyone when he came out and won for Alumi Craft in his first three desert races. Heger was not at the San Felipe race, but Broc Dickerson was and has shown the same early success behind the wheel of an Alumi Craft race car. Both young drivers have exploded onto the class 10 scene this season. Like Heger, Dickerson has a rich family history in offroad racing. His Great Grandfather is Wally Pankratz who raced in the 70’s. His Grandmother Tina Dickerson won the Baja 500 with Dick Lee and his Father Jeff has also won in Baja driving a Protruck. When it came time to pick a chassis builder for Broc, they chose Alumi Craft.
“We started 15th and by mile 120, we had taken the lead on corrected time,” said Dickerson, “We wanted to be the first car to the finish, so we continued to push hard. At mile 160, we passed the first car on the road and kept the pace high to the finish. My Alumi Craft took all the punishment we put it through; the suspension soaked up everything!”
Not only did Dickerson take the class 10 win but finished 19th place overall beating many unlimited class one cars and Trophy Trucks that started ahead of him. It was a thrilling race for the entire team but co-driver Cameron Corfman had a front row seat. It’s not easy to ride along at the edge of control, especially with a first time driver but Corfman had complete confidence in his driver and their car. “I knew Broc was a seasoned racer in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series but I wasn’t sure what to expect when I went down to pre-run the course with him,” said Corfman, “Broc takes racing very seriously and after putting 1000 miles in getting to know the course, I was confident that we could contend for the win. The car was dialed in and there wasn’t much out there that would cause Broc to lift. When we came into the dunes outside San Felipe I knew we had the class win on corrected time, but to cross the finish line first was icing on the cake.”
