It looked like we were right when we said after qualifying Thursday that starting up front for this race would be an advantage. Apdaly Lopez started first after qualifying on top and with a problem free race and clean air in front of him he was able to take home the overall win, besting Jason Voss by a mere 38 seconds. Voss was just outside of Lopez’s dust all day and which probably played a roll as this race is extremely dusty.
While Voss didn’t win the battle today he won the war as with his second place finish he clinched the BITD Trick Truck Points championship. Could of Voss pushed his pace and tried to get around Lopez, most likely, but with the bigger picture ahead of him Voss still finished strong and will run the coveted #1 place all of 2017.
Rounding out the top 5 in Trick Truck was Justin Matney, Justin Lofton, and Rick Geiser.
In Class 1500 the season points battle came down to Brandon Bailey and Larry Job in the Stronghold car, and Cody Parkhouse, with only two points separating them. At the Baja 1000 Parkhouse was involved in a very unfortunate race accident and wasn’t able to make the race so Harley Letner was gracious enough to run his numbers in order to try and secure the championship.
Bailey finished first and won the race but with Letners second place and with each team dropping their lowest race of the season Parkhouse will once again be crowned the Class 1500 champion.
