Canidae Trophy Truck team prepares for one of offroad’s toughest races; websites offer live tracking, blogging, and photos directly from the race.

San Luis Obispo, CA (March 18, 2010) – The Canidae All Natural Pet Foods Trophy Truck team has developed a new plan of attack for next week’s Mint 400 race in Nevada. By working around the clock since returning from the Baja San Felipe 250 race, the Canidae team has implemented several changes to ensure that mechanical problems do not prevent them from achieving victory.

Thursday night, March 25th will officially kick off the 2010 SNORE Mint 400 with a huge FanFest party on Freemont Street in Las Vegas starting at 6:00PM. The Canidae race truck will be on display with team drivers Scott Whipple and Scott Gailey signing autographs along with other drivers. The FanFest party is free, so all race fans are invited to come down and hang out with the Canidae Team.

Friday morning will come quickly after the FanFest party and the Canidae truck will leave the start line just after 7:00AM for qualifying. The team drew the 3rd place starting position for qualifying so the track will be ideal for putting the truck in a great starting position for Saturday’s race. Contingency will start at 9:00AM on Friday and will be held on the famed Freemont Street just as the original Mint 400 did years ago. All 300 plus competitors and their vehicles will push their way down through the vendors on their way to tech inspection. Canidae Pet Foods is proud to be a contingency sponsor for the Mint 400. Any racer, in any class, can win a bag of premium Canidae pet food, $50.00 or even $100.00 cash if they win their class. It is a huge street party and fun for the whole family. Don’t miss out! The Rallye Aicha des Gazelles is One Day In and Already Big News

Day One of Competition -
The sun has set and 50% of the teams are still in the field.  For the teams that have returned to the bivouac a variety of emotions have gone through the tent.  For some, the site of the large white structure was enough to make them smile because of exhaustion.  Others spoke much about the beauty of the landscape and the culture while a few teams reflected on the first day of action and how far they are from the finish line.  While rally officials are still determining the team that is currently leading the pack, most Gazelles were just happy to finish the day.

The Prologue Day -
Yesterday, 110 teams from 14 countries headed out five by five, every two minutes, under beautiful bluebird skies, to test their theories and their vehicles.  While it was a very successful day for most teams, one couple decided to spend the night in the desert.  Canadian team #110, Marie-France Belisle and Josée Beaudry, decided to sleep two kilometers from the bivouac.  The team was settled in their tent when the safety vehicle found them.  Team #110 decided to rough it in the desert until the first morning of competition. Casey Currie battles for top five finish at Lucas Oil Off-road season opener Casey Currie battles for top five finish at Lucas Oil Off-road season opener

The Season opener for Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series started in spectacular fashion with a stacked field of racers and magnificently constructed, technical track. The facility located at Las Vegas Motor speedway offered exciting racing and great spectating a like. After being notified two days before the race that he was to be there, Casey Currie scrambled and rented a Pro-lite from Garrit Wallace. The truck had been sitting in a trailer for 18 months with no prep or maintenance. Casey, his family, and his crew thrashed for 24 hours non-stop to get the truck ready.
Even though Casey had no time to test or set up the truck, he managed to qualify 9th, which set him up for a 4th row start. Near the beginning of the race the number #92 truck actually flipped into the hood of Casey’s #2 Monster Energy Pro-lite stopping him and send him to the last position. Casey turned on the heat and fought his way back up to 5th place pushing the rented truck to its limit. Casey crossed the finish line in a respectable 5th place.
After having some time in the truck, Casey made a lot of changes to improve the performance of the truck. Sunday’s qualifying was canceled due to rain and the divers were only given one lap to shake down their vehicles, making the slippery wet conditions even more of an obstacle. On Sunday Casey started on the poll and led the first few laps until Rodrigo Ampudia got around him. Casey stayed in the 2nd position until the restart. Two laps after the restart Casy’s truck began to lose power eventually stopping due to a mechanical failure with the carburetor.
Casey had this to say about the race: “We really had to scramble to make it here. On Tuesday I had no idea what I was going to drive! My team pulled together with support form our sponsors and we made is out to the race. On Saturday I had a hard time adaption to the rented truck, but by Sunday I felt it was working much better. I would have liked to finish on the podium, but making it to the race was a victory in itself. I had a great time battling some of the top racers in the Pro-lite class.”
Come by the pit area to check out Casey’s Pro-lite truck and pick up some free posters.

CANIDAE Trophy Truck Does Not Go Far, But Reaches a Long Way! CANIDAE Trophy Truck Does Not Go Far, But Reaches a Long Way!

The CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods team has developed a sort of Bermuda Triangle North of San Felipe just past the infamous Zoo Road crossing. Within feet of the exact spot that CANIDAE’s Class 10 car broke an axle in the 2009 Baja 1000, the CANIDAE Trophy Truck rolled to a stop with a blown motor at this year s SCORE San Felipe 250. A huge disappointment for the team considering how well the truck was running with driver Scott Whipple behind the wheel. The weekend was not a total loss however.
On Friday, the day before the race, members of the CANIDAE Racing team dropped in to the ZAPP s Animal Clinic near San Felipe to meet the owners and doctors as well as some of the volunteer staff that make this amazing facility work. Not even open a year, this no kill animal shelter has performed over 6000 spay and neuter procedures and rescued thousands of animals. After being given a tour of the facility the crew left, only to return shortly with over 500 pounds of CANIDAE dog food and FELIDAE cat food for the hospital… [read more]

One of the most personal things a rally driver will do on a Special Stage is use the handbrake. It helps rotate a car around a tight corner. Some swear by it. Others avoid it like the plague. Still, when they need it, where do they place it in the cockpit?

Bill Wood from Tech House & Speed Radio (www.bybillwood.com) takes fans into the rally car to explain handbrake positioning and the drivers using it at the 100 Acre Wood Rally held in Salem, MO late last month.

Joe Bacal Seals Victory in San Felipe 250 Joe Bacal Seals Victory in San Felipe 250

SAN FELIPE, Mexico, March 16, 2010 – The seemingly unbreakable combination of Joe Bacal and his Cancer Treatment Centers of America Lexus LX 570 took its second Stock Full class victory* in as many races on Sunday at the 24th Annual MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in Mexico. Despite drawing the last starting time in the Stock Full class, Bacal caught 2009 class champion Justin Matney early in the race, dicing with him for about 15 miles before taking the lead to the finish.

“Justin and I had a great back-and-forth run for several miles before I took over at about mile 55, but I didn’t see him again after that,” said Bacal, a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor who also uses his racing to inspire other cancer patients.

As with all of the races Bacal has run thus far, the San Felipe 250 course was rough and challenging. Deep sand and silt beds can consume otherwise tough off-road racers but it was relatively easy going for Bacal’s Lexus which ran trouble free for the entire event. Bacal and co-driver Bob Ditner even stopped to help a stuck Class 7 racer at about ¾ race distance. “The guy was in sand up to his axles, so Bob and I yanked him out quick with a tow strap. I think he went on to finish second in his class.” Read more →

Las Vegas, Nevada—Scott Douglas made a big statement at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the first race weekend of the 2010 Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series season. Douglas, who competes in the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL, was planning to be a spectator, but with the largest Pro 4 Unlimited field ever on hand, including all the top teams and drivers, the veteran couldn’t resist the chance to race. With just minutes to go in qualifying and no practice on the new race track, Scott Douglas rolled the AMSOIL Kumho Ford F-150 off the transporter and shocked everyone with the third fastest time of the huge 19 truck field.
