WRC changes Points Rule
Just days before the season start of the WRC 2010 Season the FIA implemented a new points system.
Following the 1st race of the season we have to reconsider the way we keep track of points in the Word Rally Championship Series. The FIA announced today the change just days before Rally Sweden.
Under the old ruling only the Top 8 finishers get points but now that list got expanded by 2. Starting now the top 10 finishers of any WRC rally will get scored. The new points assignment is as followes:
- 01. finisher: 25 points
- 02. finisher: 18 points
- 03. finisher: 15 points
- 04. finisher: 12 points
- 05. finisher: 10 points
- 06. finisher: 8 points
- 07. finisher: 6 points
- 08. finisher: 4 points
- 09. finisher: 2 points
- 10. finisher: 1 points
We applied the new rules to the last season and the final season end result did not change.
- 01. Loeb 93 (229)
- 02. Hirvonen 92 (220)
- 03. Sordo 64 (151)
- 04. Latvala 41 (104)
- 05. P Solberg 35 (86)
- 06. H Solberg 33 (86)

Subaru Rally Team USA Travis Pastrana was in the lead of the icy 2010 Rally America season-opener after the Day 1 stages, while Ford driver Ken Block was out of the contest.
After the first day, Pastrana and co-driver Christian Edstrom had a 54-second lead over Canadian challengers Antoine L’Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard.
But even as they’re battling for position, competitors say they’re treading carefully. They agree that the best strategy is to be conservative in order to avoid a wreck that would put them out of the rally early on.
