If you’re sitting at home, dreaming of pre-running in Baja, here’s your best shot. SCORE released the preliminary GPS file of the 2015 Baja 1000 and we’ve been flying the course via Google Earth thanks to our friends at Desert Dingo Racing. They tipped us how to use Google Earth to sit back and follow the entire Baja 1000 course from an aerial view.
If you want to see what the course looks like by “flying” it, here’s what you do:
1. Download the 2015 Baja 1000 KML file.
2. Launch Google Earth.
3. Open the KML file in Google Earth.
4. On the Google Earth sidebar on the left, look for the “Places” section and under it look for “OziExplorer Data”. Make sure the box mark next to it is checked. It looks like this:
That should get you flying.
You can find the right camera angle, altitude and speed settings for your needs under “Touring” in Preferences.
