The first ever short course night race took place June 11th and 12th. With the Arizona Short Course Series crew working on the lighting situation for two weeks the track was well lit and ready to go racing. It was a fairly nice weekend with temps in the 80’s all weekend, made for an awesome experience for both the races and the fans. Action started on Friday night with practice, with a strong turnout the drivers enjoyed the night racing and raced around the track under the lights. Saturday brought more racers and more fans filling up the stands and this would prove to be another awesome race.

Weston Schuck First were the heat races. Weston Schuck swept the competition in the trophy kart pee wee class, and Kol Bailey got first in the trophy kart mini class. Corry Weller put down an awesome run and won the utv class race. 14 year old Dillon Ayers added another win to his short course collection taking the win in the desert buggy class. Ron Dalke was back from Tucson and better than ever in a new car, he took the win in the short course buggy class. Kevin McMurray, well known 1450 racer took first overall and first in heavy metal. The 1450 short course king Brian Cannon won the 1450 class. Kyle Green took the win in stock truck and Richard Cassey took the win in the newly added Trophylite class in the Lucas Oil Regional Series.

Next was the main event, starting at 7:30pm it was going to be a late night. First up was the trophy kart peewee class. Weston Schuck won a hard fought battle and won the race, Resse Bailey took second and Ryan Anderson took third. Next was the trophy kart mini, Scotty Steele swept the competition with Jason Hoffman taking second and Chase Ryan rounding out the top third spot. After the trophy karts tore up the track it was time for the utv’s Corry Weller and Greg Frantz battled it out the whole race in the end Weller edged out Frantz for the win. Jacob Carver took third place in his R1 rhino. Next was the desert buggy class. Dillon Ayers took the win with a huge gap from second place of over nine seconds. Will Wing ran an excellent race and got second with Ryan Chamberlin taking third. Jeff Knupp In the short course buggy class Jeff Knupp ran an excellent race and dominated taking first place over Tyler Combs. Austin Kimbrell took third in his new prolite. Next up was the heavy metal and 1450 classes. Shaun Davis dominated the race in his chevy s10 truck and took the win. Scott McCracken would beat Kevin McMurray to the checkered flag. Patrick McMurray (Kevin’s brother) in his never die spirit would win his first race in 1450, speeding across the finish with a broken tail shaft and smoke pouring out the bottom of the truck. Mike McCarthy would take second, and Brian Cannon would unfortunately DNF due to electrical problems after a roll in practice. This would be Cannon’s first DNF of his ASCC racing career.

Greg Foutz The last race of the night would be the high intensity action of the stock trucks and the newly added Tophylite class. Greg Foutz took the overall and the win in Trophylite. Kyle Green would take second overall and his first main event win of the season. Tim Cheever battled it out to the finish to take second and Jake Munns would take third. That would conclude another great weekend of racing out at Speedworld. Stay tuned for the next big race October 8th where California’s Dan Vance has thrown down the gauntlet for a California vs. Arizona race.
