McMillin Racing FAMILY Relishes 3 of the Top 7 Overall Spots

San Diego, CA (June 7, 2012) Off road racing is far from predictable, which was the case for the reigning SCORE Baja 1000 Champion, Andy McMillin, at the 44th edition of the SCORE Baja 500. Joining Andy in the #31 McMillin Realty Trophy Truck was what he refers to as his “secret weapon,” his father, Scott, and his sister, Jessica.
“Racing together as a family is how Grandpa Corky started this family tradition and we really enjoy prerunning and racing in Baja together,” said 3-time Baja 1000 champion, Andy McMillin.
Competing in the second longest desert race in the world, Andy McMillin charged out of the bustling seaside town of Ensenada situated 80-miles south of the US/Mexico border and pushed to the front of the pack through the blinding dust.

Starting from the 11th starting position, the veteran racing champion fought through the sometimes blackout dusty conditions as he headed for Baja’s desolate dry desert lakebed, Laguna Salada, situated alongside the steaming Sea of Cortez.
Andy explained, “We had a really good start, popped over the Summit and through the wash without a hiccup and then we suffered a vapor locking situation with the race truck. After about 10 minutes of downtime at race mile 128, I knew we were probably not going to win the race. With the high level of racing competition nowadays, the winner is usually mistake free.”
With the remaining fuel in the truck cooling ever so slightly, the #31 race truck finally fired back up and Andy raced to his first pit at race mile 168, where his crew fueled the truck with a full load of cool race gas.

The SCORE Baja 500 has long been touted as one of the most difficult races in all of desert racing. Celebrating the 44th anniversary of the SCORE Baja 500 was special to SCORE CEO, Sal Fish, and he mapped the racecourse through areas not used for the past several years. It was challenging, to say the least, as the 450-mile track saw a finishing rate of only 50% among the prestigious SCORE Trophy Truck division.
After 9 hours, 59 minutes and 50 seconds, Scott and his daughter, Jessica, drove the McMillin Realty trophy truck across the finish line where they were greeted by Andy and the entire McMillin Racing family.

Together, Scott and his family, along with his brother, Mark and his family, celebrated a fantastic day of racing at the 2012 SCORE Baja 500. Mark’s youngest son, Luke, raced to victory in the McMillin Racing Class 1 JIMCO car and Daniel finished 4th in the McMillin Homes #23 Trophy Truck. Combined with Andy’s finish at 6th place in the McMillin Realty #31 Trophy Truck, the McMillin family of racers finished the day with 3 of the top 7 positions overall.
Scott smiled and said, “We really had a lot of fun today. Finishing with 3 McMillin racers in the top 7 at the Baja 500 is something special for our family to celebrate.”
McMillin Realty Racing returns to Mexico for the longest and oldest desert race in the world, the SCORE Baja 1000. This year the SCORE Baja 1000 runs down the length of the Baja peninsula and kicks off on Thursday November 15, 2012 in Ensenada, Baja California and finishes in the seaside city of La Paz on the coast of the Sea of Cortez.
