Where else can you find 25 of the best Pro2 and Pro4 drivers in the world on a legendary off-road course racing for $40,000 at the same time? Crandon, known for it’s landrush starts started the Pro2’s and just 12.5 seconds later the Pro4’s were unleashed to attempt to chase down the Pro2’s ahead of them.
It was looking as though a Pro2 would once again win the Amsoil Cup when Bryce Menzies took a commanding lead in the race and would hold it throughout the entire 10 laps. The battle between Bryce Menzies, NASCAR star Robby Gordon and last years cup winner Chad Hord could only be described in one word; intense! It was a battle that the 50,000+ fans at Crandon International Raceway would never forget. The battle was short lived when “The Bad Boy” Ricky Johnson came knocking at their door in his Red Bull Pro4 Ram. Johnson would work his way to the front and end up passing teammate Bryce Menzies with just 2 laps remaining and never look back.
Finally the streak was broken, a Pro4 had won the Amsoil Cup and claimed the $40,000. This marks Johnsons very first Amsoil Cup win. Johnson quickly noted that the first thing he would do with the cup is; mix up a celebratory cocktail of Red Bull and Vodka and let his team have the joy of finishing the entire thing.
