Mercado de Reflacciones Gran Prix

CODE kicks off their season with the Mercado de Reflacciones Gran Prix just outside Mexicali near the Laguna Salada dry lake. This race can be summed up in three words as to another reason why the CODE series is so very cool… LAND RUSH START!
Setup with a similar layout to a Laughlin event that we are use to in the United States with the added coolness of a land rush start, the racers would run two heats; one in the morning and another in the afternoon over some of Baja’s finest terrain.
Alfonso Lacarra and partner Joaquin Rodriguez talked about the exciting new season they have lined up for the New Year. “We have some great things coming this year, this race is sponsored by Mercado de Reflacciones who sponsored our Jacume race last year and we’re really happy to have them on board.” Said Lacarra. “We had a great race this weekend and they were a big part of it.” “ We also have our all ladies event coming in May called “Racing for Boobs” its for an association called Mujeres que Viven which means Women the Live and they are helping fight breast cancer and helping educate women on breast cancer here in Baja.”
“We are also getting together with NORRA this year for their second rally event in September, we’re fusing that event with our Mexicana Logistics race, which is one of our strongest races. NORRA is going to start in Mexicali and race to San Felipe, spend the night there and then race to Ensenada where their finish for that day will be at our contingency. The next morning we will run both our races together from Ensenada back to Mexicali and have a big party at the finish here at the Bull Ring, it’s going to be an exciting event.”
All this plus the great racing is only a part of what CODE is and why people go south for a bit of Baja.
As for the race, it was a typical CODE race, smoothly ran, a great course, spectator friendly and awards held directly afterwards. In the CODE tradition, the teams gathered and celebrated the day’s wins over a few beers with their friends and fellow competitors. A truly good time had by all.
Keep an eye out for upcoming CODE races.
