Miller Motorsports goes “Wide Open,” Baja Style

TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (April 5, 2011) — Miller Motorsports Park is pleased to announce a new partnership that will provide unique and exciting off-road experiences to enthusiasts throughout Utah and the Intermountain West.

Miller Motorsports Park has entered into a long-term relationship with Wide Open Excursions, which offers off-road driving experiences in various locations in Mexico. The new joint venture will be called Wide Open Utah, and will offer unique riding and driving experiences using custom-built Wide Open Excursions Baja Challenge race cars.

Participants will be able to enjoy experiences ranging from a ride-along on Miller Motorsports Park’s new high-speed off-road course with a professional driver to two-day driving excursions utilizing MMP’s onsite off-road courses and trips to outstanding off-road areas throughout Utah.

“This is an exciting new partnership for us,” said Miller Motorsports Park General Manager John Larson. “We know how popular off-road driving is in Utah, and Wide Open Utah will offer enthusiasts thrilling experiences that simply are not available anywhere else in Utah. We believe this will be a very successful relationship, and we look forward to offering yet another way for enthusiasts to satisfy their need for speed at Miller Motorsports Park.”

“This is the perfect alliance for our company,” said Brent Fenimore, Partner and Managing Director for Wide Open Excursions. “We have been looking for ideal locations to duplicate and expand upon our programs in Mexico, and Miller Motorsports Park provides us with a facility and off-road opportunities that are unparalleled.”

The Baja Challenge cars used in Wide Open Utah are purpose-built off-road racing machines that weigh 2,600 lb., powered by a 190-hp Subaru engine with 17 inches of suspension travel. They are capable of speeds approaching 100 mph and can comfortably handle any type of off-road terrain.

About Wide Open Excursions

Since 1997, WIDE OPEN Excursions has provided more than 16,000 guests and corporate clients with the world’s most unique and adrenaline-filled adventure opportunity. Their vision: To share the joy of high-performance off-road driving and the unspoiled beauty of the Baja peninsula and Nevada’s Great Basin, which were previously accessible only for the adventurous lucky few.  In 2011, Wide Open Excursions will expand into three new territories throughout the United States.

Much more than a driving school or follow the leader tour, the WIDE OPEN experience pushes the envelope of an adventure-based vacation. Their Baja Challenge (BC) cars are specifically designed to provide guests with the safety and performance of a desert racer, yet are easy enough for anyone to drive.

Wide Open Racing, the competition division of Wide Open Excursions, provides “arrive and drive” race seats in the same off-road race cars for amateurs and professionals looking to compete in off-road races. The Team Wide Open corporate car finished third in the Class 1 category at the Score Tecate Baja 1000 last month—a remarkable feat considering it was the only four-cylinder powered car in the class. They also finished fourth in Class 1 last June in the famous Baja 500.
