With an entire year of racing in the Best In The Desert series behind him, Monster Energy’s “Ballistic” BJ Baldwin went into the final race of the season only 1 point behind the leader. The Henderson 250 was an all or nothing battle to secure the points championship. In the end however, it wasn’t the fastest that won, but the most driven. BJ ran in to some tough mechanical issues he had overcome to finish 5th in class and 10th overall and secured just enough points to take the overall Best in the Desert Points Championship for the second consecutive year. Congratulations, BJ!!

It is sad that nothing was mentioned of Steve Strobel as the driver and team to beat for this controversial finish and Points debacle. Strobel Motorsports worked extremely hard this year with no mention at all as being the points leader going into the race, finishing in front of Baldwin and capturing the championship, until a protest and the BITD thieves realized that THEIR Poster Child didn’t win the championship by driving, so a 1 sided protest was filed and someone forgot to mention that BJ had some race course/road following issues that went unnoticed by BITD.
Enjoy your Championship Baldwin. Hope you get a new GPS system next year and learn about Stop Signs.
Don’t want to take ANYTHING away from BJ and/or Baldwin Motorsports. They are a great team and a great asset to the off-road racing industry.
However, the team FINISHED 7th in the BITD Henderson 250 but was gratuitiously AWARDED 5th place. The way the race should ended BJ would have finished 2nd in the TT points championship. Let’s all hope that future races are decided on merit and ET alone and not on phantom BITD penalty calls.
Regardless of the circumstances, congratulations to BJ Baldwin on the BITD decision. Be humble and gracious with the gift that was given to you and be thankful for the many blessings you have been given. Looking forward to 2012!
