With the start of a promising new season The Monster Terrible Herbst Motorsports descended on Parker, Arizona in hopes of victory in the 2010 BITD Parker 425.

Qualifying took place on Thursday morning. Troy Herbst beat older brother Tim Herbst by qualifying in the 12th starting position. Tim had to settle for starting behind Troy in the 13th position. Both were good starting positions for such a large field of over 80 entries in the unlimited classes.

The team spent Friday for final race preparations, technical inspection and enjoying a Monster Energy party at the Terrible Herbst Convenience store in downtown Parker. The fans were lined up for autographs, pictures and to sample Monster Energy drinks.

The race started off great for Troy in the #49 Monster Terrible Herbst Trick Truck. First lap, Troy ran conservative to save the truck. Second lap he ran conservative also, but was leading the race overall by 5 and half minutes over second place. Making more time on the competition on the third & final lap Troy experienced drive train issues. After repairs were made, Troy finished his final lap well behind the winner.

Troy said after the race “We were just cruising, trying to run a good race in our Monster Terrible Herbst #49 for the first two laps. Our BFG’s didn’t let us down, having no flats at all. Starting our third lap, main pit radioed we were leading by 5 ½ minutes over BJ. My plan was to just follow him to the finish for the win since he started minutes in front of us. Then the transmission and diff broke, heartbreaking. My family has won here before and I wanted this one bad.”

Tim Herbst in the #19 Monster Terrible Herbst Trick Truck wasn’t so lucky off the start. Transmission problems on lap one and drive train issues on lap two finally put the truck on the trailer early. This was the first DNF for the new truck debuted in 2009.

All though the weekend teased the team with victory, it was full of let downs. Everyone at Monster Terrible Herbst Motorsports will learn from the weekend and gear up for the next race. Special thanks to Collins Motorsports for all their help throughout the weekend and to BFGoodrich Tires, Fox Racing Shox, Walker Evans Race Wheels and Patrick Signs for their continued support.
