Abrams, WI (March 4, 2013) – Midwest Off-Road Racing is taking donations to purchase a defibrillator that will be on hand at every TORC Sportsman event. Currently
all emergency crews at every TORC event have one defibrillator on site.
“The size of the crowds in the spectator, pit and camping areas can be quite large, and having an additional defibrillator would cut down on the response time to an emergency situation,” commented MORR vice-president Don Demeny. “Some of the camping areas, like Crandon and Bark River, are quite large and having access to an off-track defibrillator is a must.”
MORR would like to thank Crandon International Off-Road Raceway for the $250 donation to kick off the fund raising process.
All parties interested in making a donation for the defibrillator can send a check to:

A defibrillator is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and is able to deliver an electric shock to the heart to resume its normal rhythm. This electric medicine delivered by the defibrillator is most effective if administered within 3-5 minutes.
A defibrillator is used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) that claims 400,000 lives each year in the United States alone. It’s the cause of more than half the deaths from heart disease. SCA occurs when the heart’s electrical impulses no longer generate a capable heartbeat. If left untreated, ventricular fibrillation will cause brain death in just four to six minutes. 90 percent of SCA victims die from lack of treatment.
The chances of successful defibrillation decline by about ten percent a minute of delay. In an effort to increase the odds of a victim’s survival lightweight portable Automated External Defibrillators – AED’s, have been installed on airplanes, in retirement communities and on campuses. AED’s deliver a powerful electrical shock to the heart that restores normal heart beat.
The goal of the Midwest Off Road Racing (MORR) group is to insure affordable racing for the Midwest Sportsman Off Road Racer by uniting racers with a common voice. Maintaining affiliations with approved sanctioning bodies will allow the competitor and the enthusiast to enjoy off road racing now and in the future.
