Denver, Colorado (Oct 25, 2012) – Two distinct driving styles come together to take on the 2013 King of the Hammers! American Rock Rods has joined forces with Doug Siddens from RZRForums.net to take on one of the most brutal races in history, the 2013 King of Hammers UTV race, which will be held February 7, 2013 in Johnson Valley, California.
The King of Hammers race (KOH) is referred to around the world as the toughest one day race in all of motorsports. Combining high speed desert racing with very slow, very technical, and borderline insane rockcrawling, the King of Hammers is tough on both man and machine. Since its inception, the race has grown exponentially, and it is now an entire week of events. The 2013 King of Hammers UTV race is looking to be the best one yet, with 5 classes of competition and rules sanctioned by the International Side X Side Association. The entire event is attended by over 30,000 spectators each year, and another 113,000 plus people watched it unfold live on the internet last year. The KOH race week is a spectacle in and of itself, with nothing else like it in existence.
American Rock Rods is no stranger to the world of off road racing, having won their class at the 2012 King of Hammers race. With experience at KOH going back several years, plus an entire season of every type of off road racing in 2012, they are more than prepared to build a vehicle capable of winning the title of “UTV King” in 2013. With their shop located just outside of Denver, Colorado, American Rock Rods has easy access to some of the hardest terrain in the country, and they frequently put their vehicles to the test.
Doug’s background in high speed rally driving stems from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) where he has not only competed with some of the fastest pro drivers in the world, but he has also proven that he can push the envelope with very high speeds and treacherous consequences. At last year’s PPIHC, Doug not only won his class with a very impressive time of 10:40.669, but he also finished 9th overall! Pretty amazing considering the pro teams just ahead of him were Red Bull Hyundai, Porsche, Mitsubishi, Ducati and the like.
“I am really excited to be a part of and compete at this year’s King of the Hammers race. I cut my teeth driving as fast as I could through the rough New Mexico desert and off-road trails”, claims Doug Siddens. “So I’m really pumped to get the chance to compete in a race that’s similar to what I used to do on the weekends for fun.”
For the 2013 running of The King of Hammers, American Rock Rods will be campaigning two nearly identical Polaris RZR XP 900’s. Doug will be piloting a brand new 2012 model, while Chris Barnett from American Rock Rods will be handling driving duties in a 2011 model. The buildup of both vehicles will be covered in depth on RZRforums.net for the benefit of its visitors. “I’m very excited for Doug to join our team for the 2013 King of Hammers”, said Chris Barnett. “Doug’s racing background adds a new dynamic to the team which should make us stronger overall“
RZRforums.net came online in early 2007 along with the launch of the Polaris RZR. In less than 6 years, RZRforums.net has become the largest Polaris RZR specific forum in existence with over 46,500 members and over 1 million posts. In a typical month, there are 160,000 unique visitors resulting in over 2,600,000 page views. The forum was created for RZR owners and enthusiasts to discuss and share knowledge of the various RZR models manufactured by Polaris.
