Sheldon Creed’s 2nd weekend of action packed SxS Stadium Racing took place on March 14th 2009 at Perris Automotive Speedway. Southern California provided another day of perfect race weather that attracted a large crowd of enthusiast and race fans. Dirt Alliance and M4SX organized an excellent combination of competitive classes, and a large venue with terrific accommodations, that draws driver talent from all over the Southwestern United States.
Round 2 of the Mickey Thompson / Kal-Gard Stadium Series turned out to a very interesting for Sheldon Creed and was somewhat of an exhilarating roller coaster of highs & lows. Always dedicated to giving it all, Sheldon puts forth tremendous race effort during every event, weather it is the main, a heat race, or even qualifying.
Proving the worth of Creeds JR1 Program, Sheldon qualified second and piloted the #222 Kart impressively winning the heat race after battling from the very back row through the 15 other competitors.
During the JR1 Main Event, Sheldon started in the outside position of Row 3. Sheldon quickly maneuvered his Trophy Kart into 3rd Position and was racing Shelby Anderson for 2nd. Sheldon, in attempt to keep his line and not force out any of the other racers, quickly discovered there was just not enough room to get by and was pinched into the tire barrier. Sitting until track workers could attend to him, Sheldon contemplated the scenario as the race unfolded without #222 JR1. Sheldon knew he would have pour on the steam and get back into the mix. Once freed and up to speed, Sheldon laid down the throttle driving fiercely to get back on the lead lap and was in 8th place by the mandatory yellow. With 3 laps to go, Sheldon was able to work back to a 4th place finish throwing down the quickest JR1 lap times of the day according to mylaps.com
The Stadium Kart Modified racing treated PAS Offroad fans with a truly epic battle that will be remembered throughout the 2009 season. Back to the earlier heat rounds, Sheldon qualified 5th and finished 3rd in the heat race, awarding a 6th position start for the main event.
The green flag dropped and Sheldon maneuvered straight to the outside of turn 2 and came out in front of the pack. A kart broke in the middle of the track so the course automatically went red for the first lap. The field of young drivers lined up for the restart in the order from when they were coming off of turn 1 and Sheldon led the field with another great hole shot. For 5 laps a great battle evolved with Kalgaurd’s Trenton Briley, Conner Hart, Zac Hunt leaving Sheldon falling back to 3rd where he held his position until the mandatory yellow.
The mid race restart positioned the four Trophy Kart Specialist to battle it out for the remaining 3 laps. Conner went to the outside and left a line open, Sheldon piloted his #522 Kart right in securing second position. He now had his sights on the leader with Zac Hunt close behind on his tail. Sheldon drove hard and came up just short of the win, earning a very strong 2nd place finish.
Sheldon thanked all of his sponsors with enthusiasm in front of the large crowd of fans leaving a special podium plug for The Fab School, Fox Racing Shoxs, RTL and Am Ortega Construction.
Just this last Saturday, Sheldon Creed Racing tested a brand new 450 Fab School Modified Kart built buy Troy Johnson. Sheldon feeling comfortable right away was able to put the new car to its limits and dial in the new Kart with plenty of laps and seat time. Everything performed perfectly and Sheldon had an awesome test overall. We will be making the race debut with this Kart at the first round of the Lucas Oil Offroad Short Course Series taking place at Primm this weekend. We are all very excited and expect Sheldon to put it on the podium its first time out.
