Short Course Racing is back! Say hello to Round 1&2 of LOORRS

Rounds 1 & 2 of the newly formed Lucas Oil Off Road Series (LOORRS) is now in the books. Everyone is wondering how it was and most importantly, how it compared to a CORR event. We are trying to find the right analogy to explain it to those that didn’t attend the event. CORR was Ozfest and LOORRS is a Staind concert, or maybe CORR was HOME DEPOT and LOORRS is your neighborhood ma and pa hardware store. No matter how you put it, the first LOORRS event was great, but definitely scaled down from what CORR was.

The racers and spectators created positive scene. The LOORRS Staff provided for friendly, professional show that was on time and offered non stop entertainment all day. Yes, there is room for improvements but keep in mind this was Day 1 for a new promoter in town. After the long winter break and the absence of the CORR short course remainder of 2008 it was refreshing to see old familiar faces in and around the pits. Actually some of the experienced former CORR personnel was now working for LOORRS carrying over there know-how.

“I really like that the pits are on the pavement, verses the pits in the dirt we had previously at CORR events in Primm” said Anthony Verdone a PRO2 racer after the weekend “Now all we have to do is clean the race truck instead of blowing off dust from all our support vehicles, trailers and motor homes for an entire week” Anthony didn’t podium this weekend, but still enjoyed the first round of short course racing this year. “We’ll be back, that’s for sure!”

On the not so bright side, there is a clear divide in short course racing, with the birth of Traxxas TORC, another new competing short course race series. TORC’s first race will be May 15th in Texas.

The racers listed below raced in CORR 2008, but where absent the first LOORRS race this weekend:

This list may suggest that they will be racing TORC but in reality they may have moved to different classes, retired from racing, took a break or simply couldn’t make it for the first Round of LOORRS. Time will tell which series will dominate.
