Southern Nevada real estate agent Day Gang fits in just fine whether she is professionally dressed working with high-dollar clients; or attired in an off-road racing suit tackling the tough desert and the competition it provides.

Sponsored by Freeman Carpet Service, Gang will be competing in the Dusty Times 250 in Pioche, Nev. on Saturday, May 8 driving in the talent-filled 1-2 1600 class. Presented by the Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiasts (SNORE), the race is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.

Considered one of the busiest real estate agents in Southern Nevada even during the worst economic downturn in Nevada history, she is finding time away from the rigors of business to tackle the desert about 150 miles north of Las Vegas.

Closing a complex deal in real estate? No biggie. Kind of like the double jump in an off-road race.

And powering down on a Class 1600 off-road machine? Again, no biggie. Just go for it.

And if you happen to be in her way while on the race course, move over or realize that closing a deal in an off-road event could mean Gang is either going to pass you or move you out of the way. She has not won the Caliente race, but has finished in the top five four times in seven tries, so she is undoubtedly hungry for her first victory.

“This very well could be Day’s race,” said her uncle Kenny Freeman himself a veteran of off-roading who is also entered in the 1600 class. “She excels on a go-kart track and seems to thrive on layouts like the Dusty Times 250.”

Gang actually started her racing career at the age of about eight when her grandparents bought go-karts for her and her cousin, Bryan Freeman. Since the day she climbed into her first race machine, life has been pedal-to-the-metal.

“She is honestly one of the most tenacious people I have ever met,” adds Kenny Freeman. “She is competitive no matter what she does and she always has top lap times in Caliente.”

The Dusty Times 250 is a legendary race that includes everything from tight and twisty roads to a steep drop called “Oh My God Hill” which signals the end of a 75-mile lap near town.

Considering that Gang has excelled in everything she has done, there is no question that she knows her way to the finish line. Whether it’s a short sale in real estate or a long run in an off-road race, there is no stopping her.

Her grandmother, Marian Freeman, says Gang has always been feisty.

“I remember when she was four years old,” Mrs. Freeman laughs. “She was always so busy tinkering in the garage that her parents had to buy her some tools.”

Grandfather Ken Freeman, Sr., says his granddaughter has been a pistol since she was little.

“I can remember when I was racing in the 1970s,” said Mr. Freeman, who now lives near Cedar City, Utah. “We got this new motor home and Day was about four at the time. I came up to the start-finish line, and she opened the door naked as a jaybird cheering me on.”

Like others, Mr. Freeman thinks his granddaughter could win the Dusty Times 250. He said Day illustrated her talent by winning several championships when running the go-kart which was purchased to fine-tune her talents for off-road racing.

“She gets after it when she’s racing,” he said. “One thing is for sure. If you are her crew chief, you have got your hands full. She gets everything she can out of a car.”

While off-roading is a great way to relax, it is the real estate career which pays the bills. Like off-roading, Gang is highly respected in the real estate business.

“Day’s biggest strongpoint is her attention to detail,” explained Scott Beaudry, the broker-owner at Universal Realty in Henderson. “She will never fail. It’s not in her vocabulary.

“This business centers around your reputation and Day is the most honest person you’ll ever meet. She will bend over backwards going to the end of the earth to complete a real estate transaction.”

Gang says simply “I feel like I was born to sell real estate and drive an off-road car. Both professions are very challenging to me. I have been on the brink of winning Caliente several times and I’m ready to close the deal and win the race this time.”

The Dusty Times 250 had 102 pre-race entries about nine days before the race.  The event includes a meet and greet gathering Friday from 7-10 a.m. at Caliente Elementary.
