Many of you know the All German Motorsports team and their new Trophy Truck which debuted at the Baja 1000 last year. I recently met one of the AGM crew members, Thomas Modlmeier, and found out that he is the US distributor for a German company called Stahlbus. They make engine oil drain valves and brake bleeders that are very simple to operate.

The bleeders are excellent for the DIY person that might end up needing to bleed his brakes when no help is around. Instead of having to call a friend or family member over to help pump the pedal you simply install the brake bleeder and its a one person job. The design of the bleeder doesn’t allow air back in when you are bleeding the brakes so that eliminates another common problem. You can also use their vacuum pump to use the bleeder to fill the brakes. And you can use it on hydraulic clutch systems.
The other day it was time to change the oil on our Toyota Sequoia and Thomas sent me the oil valve that works with Toyota Oil pans. I simply took the stock drain plug out, let most of the old oil drain and then screwed in the new Stahlbus drain valve. The valve is designed to not let any oil out until the drain unit with the hose installed is pressed into the valve. You push it in, twist a quarter turn and it locks in and the flow of oil starts immediately. When it’s done you push and twist to pop it off and then screw on the supplied cap by hand and that’s it. For future oil changes I won’t need a wrench and won’t get hot oil on my hands. Depending on the vehicle you might even be able to drain the oil without removing the skid plate with the Stahlbus drain valve installed.
I give these products two thumbs up!
The brake bleeders start at $35 and the oil drain valve is currently on sale for $65. Stahlbus also makes quick disconnect valves for all different types of hydraulic hoses. You can see a picture of them below in the gallery and more info on their website.
