RIVERSIDE, CA February 17, 2010: Kevin Sacalas was one of only 43 drivers out of 100 to successfully complete the 2010 Griffin King of the Hammers race held in Johnson Valley on February 12th. King of the Hammers was Sacalas’ 2nd race to date driving his #4435 rock racing vehicle which fans have affectionately named “The Big Ugly.” Sacalas built The Big Ugly in his garage in the summer of 2009 and debuted the vehicle racing as Team Viking Offroad at Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno: The Long Way: a punishing 3-day one thousand mile race in which Sacalas took 1st place in the Ultra4 class.

With the start of a promising new season The Monster Terrible Herbst Motorsports descended on Parker, Arizona in hopes of victory in the 2010 BITD Parker 425.

Qualifying took place on Thursday morning. Troy Herbst beat older brother Tim Herbst by qualifying in the 12th starting position. Tim had to settle for starting behind Troy in the 13th position. Both were good starting positions for such a large field of over 80 entries in the unlimited classes.

Parker, AZ – As PMC Racing prepared for the Best In the Desert season opener held on February 6, 2010, they had high hopes of a successful season debut, but as the bad weather came so did bad luck. The Parker based, PMC Racing fielded two trucks in the event, an unlimited Ford Trick Truck and an 8100 Stock Full Ford.

Thursday morning the PMC Racing #15 Trick Truck driven by Jim Beaver, qualified against a field of 78 other unlimited vehicles and placed in the 38th starting position for the race, while Beaver’s younger brother Trent, was at the helm of the Stock Full for Saturday’s race. The plan was for both trucks to run a smooth pace for the first two laps to see where they stacked up against the competition before starting their last lap. Read more

With 239 starters, and only 82 finishers, Team ATK proved itself once again with a great start to the 2010 season at the Best In The Desert (BITD) Blue Water Resorts Parker 425 in Parker, Arizona. Running not only their race proven Jeepspeed Unlimited ATK Wrangler driven by Jon Krellwitz with co-driver Skyler Gambrell, but a vintage Baja winning class 6 Jeep Cherokee that fit the rules for the BITD 7200 unlimited mini truck class; prepped at the last minute by CROSSROADS Fabrication to be driven by Darren Skilton with co-driver Flynn Sizemore at his side. “Ballistic” BJ Baldwin wins the legendary Parker 425 in dominating fashion: The champ is back!

The Best in the Desert Parker 425 started in 1972, known then as the Norra Dam “500”, by 1974 the race had evolved to the Parker “400”, and continued to develop into one of the premier off-road races on American soil. Taking place along the banks of the Colorado River, the race features time trials pitting racers against the clock in a short dash for start position. The 140-mile loop features some of the most challenging terrain in America including sandy whoops, rocky washes, high speed graded roads, silt beds, and the crowd pleasing ” Parker Python” a spectator friendly winding infield section of the course. After a long fought day BJ Baldwin would walk away with the overall win at the 2010 BITD Parker 425. The weather gods were on the racers side this year, even though the course would get some rain, it was nothing like last years mud fest. Western Motorsports Announces 2010 Driver Lineup and Schedule Ready to Kick off Season at Parker 425

Escondido, CA—Western Motorsports announced today their 2010 drivers lineup and race schedule for 2010. The Escondido, California based team will compete in both endurance desert racing and short-course racing. Sean Backus has been tabbed as the primary driver of the 7200 Class #7265 Eleven Western Builders Chevrolet. Backus will compete for the Best in the Desert Racing Association championship along with a tentative run in the Baja 500 and Baja 1000. Secondary driver Brett Backus will share driving duties for the 7265 team including a primary start for the first race of the year. Sean Backus will not be able to make the first start at the Parker 425 due to an off-track injury. Filling in for the inured Backus will be long time veteran racer Danny Ashcraft. The 7265 team is also pleased to announce they will rely on the strength of BFGoodrich Tires for the 2010 season. Read more
