Renezeder made his mark in the history annals logging in 14 podium finishes containing three wins, nine seconds and two thirds to finish out the 2011 LOORRS season. And for those keeping track, that’s 14 podium finishes out of 15 races. This is simply an amazing feat for the championship driver.

8-Time National Champion: Carl Renezeder

CHANDLER, AZ (December 12, 2011) – It’s only fitting that the guy who drives with the heart of a champion is not only the winningest driver in the short-course, off-road world, but now has the most national titles of any short-course driver in the history of the sport.  The 2011 Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing season hosted Carl Renezeder’s phenomenal run to his eighth championship, where he finished on the podium 14 out of 15 races, with three wins, nine seconds, two thirds and one fourth.

“I’d have to go back and look at the stats, but in all my years of doing this, I don’t think we’ve ever has such consistent finishes in one class,” explained Renezeder.  “We’re incredibly proud of all the podium finishes, but even more so with the fact that we had no DNFs in Pro-4 – that’s a huge accomplishment.”

But even all those stats and the garland of champions’ roses around his neck couldn’t lift the spirits of Renezeder and his team when an amazing second-place finish in his Pro-2 truck in the Lucas Oil Challenge Cup was taken away by the officials.  Renezeder, having had a lot of success in his history of Cup races, decided to take a chance in Sunday’s race by choosing his Pro-2 over the quicker lap-times of his Pro-4.

“We had a mechanical failure in the Pro-2 on Saturday early in the race, and I never got a chance to run it hard,” explained Renezeder.  “I just felt like the truck had something left to prove this season.”

He was right.  The truck was flawless throughout the race, giving Renezeder the opportunity to drive his race and cross the finish line in second place after some epic on-track battles.  From a fourth row start, he led the race at one time, held off some hard-charging Pro-4s, worked his way back forward after being spun out mid-race, and then made a phenomenal save on the last lap when he was part of a three-truck collision to come across the line in second.  The collision was reviewed by officials for several minutes while the drivers found their way to victory lane, then the finishing order was announced and television interviews were conducted, with Renezeder being congratulated by CBS, Versus, SPEED and MavTV for his second-place finish.  But before they paraded the drivers up onto the podium, the officials announced a change to the finishing order, black-flagging Renezeder, thus moving him back to a ninth-place finish.

“I honestly don’t understand it,” commented a dejected Renezeder.  “I feel bad for the team – we didn’t deserve to have that taken away from us.”

It’s a tough way to finish out a great season and a great race.  But no one can take away how amazing the truck worked on Sunday and how well Renezeder drove it.  He always drives with calculating skill and finesse, but more importantly, he drives with an overwhelming will to win and the heart to back it up.  He is simply a champion.

Champions were decided at the final round of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Arizona. The first big race after the opening ceremonies was Pro4 Unlimited, where Carl Renezeder had already locked up the season title. With the championship already decided was the race boring as a result? Hell no!

Renezeder was still battling just as hard as ever and there was a roster full of special guests for the last race of the year. With the TORC season completed, Johnny Greaves came out from the Midwest for some Arizona sunshine. Adrian Cenni was also in the house, looking to repeat his magic from earlier this season where “The Wildman” swept Crandon on Labor Day weekend. Perhaps the most buzz of all centered around X Games Gold Metalist and rally driver Liam Doran. It didn’t take long after the green flag dropped for the parts to start flying. Greaves race was unfortunately cut short after hard contact from Josh Merrell took out Greaves’ power steering and a tire. No telling if Johnny’s son CJ Greaves gave Merrell the bird in response, as he famously did to Ricky Johnson earlier this season.

Meanwhile Kyle LeDuc was walking away from Adrian Cenni up front, who spun on Turn 2 to give second place to Carl Renezeder. Carl never really had anything for Kyle, but he was able to hold off Josh Merrell in third. Perhaps the best racing in Pro4 was the battle for fourth between Todd LeDuc and Liam Dorson, who were banging the entire race and had shed all of their body panels by the time the checkers came out.

Pro Lite Unlimited came down to the wire, with Chris Brandt and Brian Deegan seemingly trading the top spot on the podium all season long. Brian Deegan had a slim three point lead over Chris Brandt, and Brandt was starting on the first row. Brandt needed to lead at the caution to gain valuable points, but it was not meant to be. Wet track conditions made for sloppy racing early on, with Rodrigo Ampudia out front, followed by Deegan and Brandt.

Ampudia lost a wheel on Turn 1 to bring out the yellow flag, putting Deegan up front with Casey Currie charging hard. No one had anything for Deegan, but Currie, Brandt, and Kyle LeDuc were trading positions behind him as the laps progressed. At the flag it was Deegan, LeDuc, and Brandt on the podium, with Deegan taking the season championship in Pro Lite Unlimited.

Super Lite had a packed field, with 16 Mazda rotary-powered spec trucks on the short track at Firebird. Wunderkid Sheldon Creed was conspicuously missing; the rumor being that his father Scott parked Sheldon’s truck due to poor grades. Study up Sheldon! Brent Fouch started on the pole, but he rolled on Turn 3 of the first lap. He wasn’t alone. Jimmie Johnson’s little brother Jessie, Mike McCarthy, and radio host Jason Ellis all ended up on their lids during the race. Turn 3 was chewing up Super Lites like Cookie Monster eating snicker doodles. It seemed like a lap did not go by without a truck on its lid.

Out front, Ryan Hagy and Kyle Lucas (yes, that Lucas- like the series) were battling for first. After Hagy made a seemingly clean pass on Lucas in Turn 2, Lucas shoved Hagy off the track and put them both back in the pack as a result. Chad George benefited from the road rage, but it wasn’t long before Austin Kimbrell passed George for yet another new race leader. Kimbrell was able to hold on for his first win of the season, but Chad George won the Super Lite series championship with a four place finish. Kyle Lucas came back to finish in second on Saturday and RJ Anderson came in third in a race that at times resembled a demolition derby.

Next up were the “professionals”. I mean that is why they called it “Pro2” Unlimited, right? Even with grading and extensive track prep, the big boys still went wheels up nearly as much as the Super Lites had before them. In order for Deegan to secure his second championship of the season he just needed to start the race, but just showing up would not be Deegan’s style. Alder started on the pole with Jeremy McGrath and Rob MacCachren behind him, but over rotated in Turn 3 and left the door open for McGrath and Rob Mac. MacCachren pulled into the lead on the second lap and pulled on the competition for a comfortable lead.

Scott Martenson put his truck on its lid on the last turn and started a smoke show, bringing out the caution and bunching up the field. On the restart Robert Naughton got into the back of his teammate Jeremy McGrath hard and Carl Renezeder got caught up in the fray. Both McGrath and Renezeder were reduced to a snail’s pace for the remainder of the race like Ricky Bobby after his big crash. At least they did not rip off their clothes and try to put out an invisible fire. Robby Woods was running in third after the mandatory caution when he went wheels up in Turn 3, and shortly thereafter Myan Spaccarelli and Nick Tyree were banging in Turn 1 and both ended up on their lids. The MasterCraft Tundra recovery trucks were working overtime flipping trucks back on their tires.

When he had room to work Rob Mac was making time on the competition, and he set the fast lap in Pro2. Unfortunately the yellow flag was seemingly out on every lap, bunching up the field. MacCachren bicycled in Turn 3 and Brian Deegan helped Mac onto his roof. Deegan was black flagged for the move, but that was little consolation to MacCachren. Naughton was also black flagged for aggressive driving in what was the dirtiest Pro2 race of the season. Veteran racer and sentimental favorite Evan Evans tried to stay out of the fray, but Brian Deegan pushed past him on the last lap to get on the podium in third place. The Pro2 Unlimited finale was definitely a war of attrition, with Jeff Geiser rewarded for clean driving with his first ever podium appearance. Another first was for Greg Adler, who shed nearly every body panel from his truck on the way to his first ever Pro2 victory.

Teams will be burning the midnight oil to fix their trucks for tomorrow’s cup races, with $100,000 on the line. And after today’s antics you can bet there is plenty of bad blood to be settled on the track as well. As always, RDC will be there to bring you all the dirt!

Fort Mill, SC – (December 8, 2011) The Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) wraps up their season at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, AZ, December 10 and 11 and members of General Tire’s Team GT are ready for their descent on the desert. Team GT is led by veteran driver Carl Renezeder who is poised to claim victory number 98 in addition to the 2011 championship in the Pro 4 Unlimited class, which will mark his eighth short-course off-road championship.

Renezeder will compete in both the Pro 4 and Pro 2 Unlimited classes with Team GT teammate Josh Merrell joining him in the Pro 4 Unlimited class. Four more drivers will carry the General Tire logo on their entries including up-and-comer Robby Woods in Pro 2 Unlimited. Casey Currie will compete in Pro Lite Unlimited and Ryan “Fluffer” Hagy and Jason Ellis will represent General Tire in the Super Lite’s.

“Team GT has a strong contingency of short-course off-road drivers,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing, General Tire. “Our guys have done an excellent job ‘unleashing the fury’ on-track all year and we’re looking forward to another great race at the upcoming LOORRS finale. General Tire partnered with seven-time off-road racing champion Carl Renezeder to produce two commercials promoting its brand.

The first commercial is a fast-paced action video featuring Mr. Renezeder driving his short-course race truck fitted with the General Grabber competition tire.

The second spot demonstrates that off-road racers demand performance for their street trucks as well and promotes the Grabber as an optimum choice for on- and off-road conditions.

LAKE FOREST, CA (October 5, 2011) – Carl Renezeder will spend the day with fans and industry colleagues this Saturday, October 8 when he attends the Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo powered by General Tire at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. The show is “Where the Off-Road Nation Comes Together” and Renezeder will be on hand throughout the day to sign autographs (see a detailed schedule below) and catch up with the industry.
“It’s nice to be able to get the off-road world together away from the race track,” commented Renezeder. “My team and I are so focused on performance on race weekends that it’s hard to find time to relax and catch up with fans, sponsors and everyone else in the industry. At Off-Road Expo I’ll get that chance. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Renezeder’s last outing in the race trucks ended in mixed results. A rock came through the tinwork on the Pro-2 on Saturday, taking out his oil pump pulley and his chances of finishing the race. On Sunday, he had nowhere to go when Robbie Pierce pulled back on the track after missing a line over the tabletop – they hit hard, and luckily both walked away without serious injury. The same can’t be said for the truck. It’s spending some serious TLC time with its lead mechanic, Brandon Chavez, over the next few weeks.
The Pro-4 had a much more successful weekend in Arizona, finishing in the second-place spot both days, adding a few more points to the championship lead in that category. The team has two more race weekends in the season – Las Vegas Motor Speedway, November 5-6, and Firebird International Raceway, December 10-11 – to find the top of the box and earn a championship trophy. It’s playoff time, and these guys are as serious as it gets.

Kyle Leduc laid down fast lap of the day in his Pro 4 with a lap time of 54.223, over a second faster over Renezeder who would be next fastest in Pro 4, as well as grabbing the pole in Pro 2 with a time of 56.501. In the Prolite class, Chris Brandt edged Brian Deegan, and in Pro Buggy Justin Davis took the top spot just barely beating Justin “Bean” Smith.

The desert heat was in full force today and and the forecast isn’t letting up for tomorrows racing. Lucas Oil changed the normal schedule around with Modified Karts starting off at 8:30am, and the last race of the day, Pro 2, starting at 2:30pm, so make sure you listen to the broadcast live here on RDC tomorrow.

LAKE FOREST, CA (August 10, 2011) – Perhaps it was because of the bright lights on those warm summer nights, or the realization that the number of rounds of racing left in the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing season were quickly dwindling toward zero, or maybe it was just tough competition with an abiding desire to win – whatever the reason, the Pro-4 and Pro-2 classes left a lot of fiberglass on the track on the way to the checkered flag both days last weekend at Glen Helen.  Fans saw close battles, tons of passing, tempers as hot as the midday August sun, plenty of drama, and an abundance of great racing.  Some drivers ended up on the positive side of it all, some incurred the negative, but the majority left the track on Sunday night with both.

“We definitely didn’t have a great weekend, but it could have been a lot worse,” expressed Carl Renezeder, driver of the number 17 Lucas Oil/General Tire/Team Associated Ford F150s in Pro-2 and Pro-4.

With both trucks in serious need of quality time with their respective lead mechanics come Monday morning, it’s remarkable that Renezeder was able to turn such carnage into respectable results.  He was knocked sideways in the air, landed on, rode the k-rail for several feet, traded paint on both sides of both trucks, yet somehow managed to stay rubber-side down, with the nose pointed forward at the end of all four races.  He missed the podium in both of the Pro-2 races, which meant he took a hit in the overall points, finishing sixth on Saturday and fourth on Sunday.  He climbed on the podium both days in Pro-4, but never on the top spot, which also hurt him in the points.  He made a last-lap pass to finish second on Saturday, and then limped a right-rear flat around to a third-place finish on Sunday.

Renezeder was the first driver is short course history to win the Pro-2 and Pro-4 championships in the same season (2009), and he’s looking to repeat this year.  If Glen Helen is any indication of how the rest of the season will play out, then it’s definitely going to be a tough fight to the end.  Unquestionably, Renezeder and his crew are up for the challenge.

Five rounds of racing remain in the championship chase this season, and the Lucas Oil Challenge Cup will round out the year.  Two thirds of the races are in the books, and the teams have a seven-week break to think about how they’re going to attack the remaining third of the season.  Rounds 11 and 12 will take place the weekend of September 24-25 at Speedworld Motorsports Park in Surprise, Arizona, then the series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway November 5-6 before rounding out the season in Chandler, Arizona at Firebird International Raceway the weekend of December 10-11.

LAKE FOREST, CA (June 21, 2011) – Carl Renezeder will close out the first half of the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing season this weekend when he competes in rounds seven and eight at the pristine Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, just outside Salt Lake City.  The world-class facility has added a permanent short-course track this year, giving the drivers another new track to enjoy.

“The fans were amazing in Utah last year,” commented Renezeder, driver of the Lucas Oil/General Tire #17 Pro-4 and Pro-2.  “It was the first time we’d been to that part of the country; they were so excited to have us there.  Now that we have a dedicated track, the fans will be able to watch from a much closer proximity and get an even better perspective of what we do.”

Even after one of the most successful weekends of racing in his career at Glen Helen a few weeks ago, Renezeder simply gathered up his trophies and immediately focused on what it would take to get better.  The new track in Utah and the continuing progress of his competition didn’t leave much room for celebrations or relaxation – it was right back to work for the crew that’s chasing two more championships this season.

“The three wins and a close second in Glen Helen were amazing,” explained Renezeder, “but we need to stay focused on constantly getting better.  Our goal is to have weekends like that every time we head to the track.  We can’t do that if we’re still congratulating ourselves the week after the race.  We’re proud of the accomplishments, but the big celebrations can wait until the end of the year.”

That kind of uncompromising dedication is what’s earned 95 career wins and seven championships for the 47-year-old Montebello, California native.  It’s also what’s built the team around him, comprised of the best crew in the business and the top sponsors in the world of motorsports.  The phrase “it takes a village” applies to the world of racing, too, and Renezeder has surrounded himself with an amazing group that’s just as committed as he is to winning, which has proven to be successful throughout his 13-year short-course career.

The team will chase four more trophies this weekend in Utah, starting on Thursday with practice, followed by qualifying on Friday and racing on both Saturday and Sunday.  See the attached schedule for details.

Rounds 5 and 6 have come to a close, and the racers put on a show that left the fans wanting more. From the Trophy Karts to the Pro 4′s, every racer left everything they had on the course and put together some battles that can be put down in short course history.

In the Pro 2 race Carl Renezeder would come out on top once again, leading most of the race. The real action was behind him as Greg Adler, Rob MacCachren and a few others battled hard the last few laps to see who could get on the podium. By the end of the race few trucks had all their body panels on, and almost half the field couldn’t finish the race.

The Prolite race also had some great battles between Kyle Leduc and Chris Brandt, driving door to door most of the race. At the finish of the race for some reason Brandt had some choice words for Leduc and put his front bumper in the back of #99 and threw out a very manly 4 cylinder rev. Rodrigo Ampudia received the most style points of the weekend as he used the k-rail in turn one as a jump and put his truck on its lid. Brian Deegan would once again come out on top winning

Kyle Leduc took the negative mojo from Saturdays Pro 4 race where he only made it a few laps, and channeled that energy into a win for Round 6. Kyle, Carl Renezeder, and Rick Huseman put on a great show for the fans all running cleanly and swapping positions all race. The biggest confusion of the race came when after the checkers Jerry Daughtrey and son Aaron finished 7th and 8th respectively, and then decided to take each other out after the race had ended. Jerry was left with a broken front end and had to be towed off. I guess he should of bought Aaron that train set when he was a little boy for xmas.

John Fitzgerald put on a limited buggy clinic winning his race, and laying down a fast lap that was 1.5 seconds faster then second place Curt Geer. Jerry Whelchel came out on top in the pro buggy class. R.J. Anderson went from 1st to 12th in the Superlite class after while leading the race he got swapped up in turn 1 causing him to flip over, and wasn’t able to finish the race.

And finally accordingly to Mylaps.com, Mitchell Dejong posted the fastest top speed of the day at 64mph. Either that is an error, or the Modified Trophy Karts should be running with the Pro 4′s next race.

Up next for LOORRS is a trip out to Toole, UT for Rounds 7 and 8 of the Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series.

LAKE FOREST, CA (May 12, 2011) – Carving out a spot at or near the top of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing championship points standings is a tough enough task in one professional division, but Carl Renezeder – never one to shy away from a challenge – once again finds himself leading the Pro-2 points and second in the Pro-4 standings after round four of the sixteen-race season.  The 2009 champion of both divisions, and one of the most prolific drivers in short-course history, is focused on backing up that tremendous feat.

“You’d think that after 12 years of competing in this sport that it would get easier, at least some aspects of it,” explained Renezeder, who has 92 short-course wins and seven national championships in his record book, “but it continues to bring new challenges every race, every season.”

The teams face the technical track at Glen Helen Raceway Park next weekend, May 20-22, for rounds five and six, which will be the first of two visits this season.  The tight turns, heavy surface and rhythm sections that make up the .8-mile course will no doubt host some of the best battles of the season among the best short-course drivers in the country.  The facility is tucked into the base of the San Gabriel Mountains and is just a short drive from almost anywhere in Southern California, home to thousands of off-road enthusiasts and several of the race teams.

“This is our home track, so of course we want to do well in front of all our family and friends,” commented Renezeder, “but that doesn’t change our game plan.  We’re always focused on winning races and performing at our peak.”

The team will load into the facility on Wednesday afternoon, go through tech inspection on Thursday then set up camp, and the trucks will finally hit the track for the first practice session at 11:30 a.m. on Friday morning.  Qualifying will take place Friday afternoon, and racing will follow Saturday’s and Sunday’s 2:00 p.m. opening ceremonies.

LAKE FOREST, CA (April 21, 2011) – This Sunday evening, April 24 at 9:00 p.m. EST/6:00 p.m. PST, Carl Renezeder is humbled to be the featured driver on Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain, live on SPEED Channel. This venture into a mainstream motorsports television media will be Renezeder’s first visit to the show and his official introduction to the popular host.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting Dave Despain and talking about our sport to his broad audience,” commented Renezeder. “He covers such a wide variety of racing on his show, and the call-in format from fans makes it unique and interesting. It’s an honor to be invited to participate and promote our sport.”
Renezeder’s appearance on Wind Tunnel follows his second weekend of the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series season this past weekend where he currently holds the points lead in the Pro-2 division, and sits second in the Pro-4 division. The competition is stronger than ever in the series, so consistent finishes are proving more and more valuable in the points chase.
“It’s frustrating to still not have a win this season, but with as many odd problems that have cropped up in both trucks the first two weekends, we feel really good about the finishes we’ve had,” said Renezeder.

In his Lucas Oil/General Tire Pro-2, he had second and fifth place finishes in rounds three and four, respectively. Fourth and second place finishes in Pro-4 have kept him well within reach of the top of the leaderboard in that division. The next rounds of racing will be near Renezeder’s home turf at Glen Helen Raceway the weekend of May 20-22.

The Mastercraft Safety Off-Road Team had both big wins and frustration during the Lucas Oil Off-Road series rounds 3-4 in Surprise, AZ.  The team consists of off-road legend Rob MacCachren, Pro-Lite standout Matt Loiodice, and Mastercraft Safety President Robbie Pierce.

Pro-2 champion Rob MacCachren shook off the funk from Rounds 1-2 and came out swinging, treating the crowd to some wild door-to-door racing action against Carl Renezeder, and former Pro-Lite champion Marty Hart on Saturday.  On Sunday, Rob took the lead off the start, and managed to stay out front until the checkered flag.  With a renewed confidence in his vehicle set-up Rob is going to be hard to beat all season.  ”It felt really good to be back in front.  Rounds 1-2 were frustrating so winning both days here feels great,” stated the exuberant MacCachren.

Team owner and driver Robbie Pierce weathered the storm with rear starts both days to finish a respectable top ten, 7th on Saturday and 8th on Sunday.  ”Sometimes off-road racing is about surviving.  It wasn’t pretty but we got to the finish line both days.  I didn’t come into short course thinking I could podium right away.  These guys are the best.  I just want to continue to improve and be more competitive,” stated Pierce.

Pro-Lite standout Matt Loiodice had a rough weekend as well battling vehicle set up issues and traffic to finish 9th on Saturday.  On Sunday, Loiodice managed to improve to a 6th place finish even after hitting Cameron Steele after he spun in front of him.  ”We had some vehicle set-up issues on Saturday that we got through.  Trying to get through traffic Sunday was just wild.  Not terrible, but not the results we wanted.  We will be ready for Glen Helen,” stated Loiodice.

Team Renezeder Continues Season with Confidence

LAKE FOREST, CA (April 7, 2011) – With a quiet confidence and decided determination, Carl Renezeder and his crew will head to Surprise, Arizona next weekend (April 15-17) for rounds three and four of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.  Last year Renezeder found plenty of success on the desert short course at Speedworld Motorsports Park with three wins and seven total podiums in eight races.

“We’re just going to keep chipping away at this season one race at a time, taking nothing for granted,” commented Renezeder.  “More than ever, we’re appreciating each chance we get to make laps in these truck, giving us the opportunity to improve.”

Years ago, making these trucks faster usually required a few big changes, but as they’ve evolved, finding the on-track advantage has become about the small changes and constant innovation.

“Staying ahead of the learning and development curves with these trucks is crucial,” explained Renezeder.  “It’s pretty easy to find 95% of the speed out there; it’s the last 5% that requires the majority of our effort.”

So as the team, lead by crew chief Bill Smith of ProFab Motorsport, heads out to the Phoenix area next weekend, they will continue to find ways to get quicker each lap.  That and a little bit of luck is what it will take to find the next win.

The series opens the weekend with practice and qualifying on Friday, April 15, followed by an autograph session and event kick-off party at The Tilted Kilt in Peoria, featuring Renezeder and several other top drivers.  Renezeder will then celebrate his birthday on Saturday by throwing around some dirt and chasing a couple of trophies as the Series hosts round three of the championship starting at 2:00 p.m.  Sunday will consist of qualifying in the morning and then round four races starting at the same time as Saturday.

The 2011 race season got off to an exciting start at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, AZ as the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series came to town.  Here’s how the action went down:

Pro 4 – Featuring a deep field, Pro 4 kicked off the racing season with some familiar names at the head of the pack.  2010 season champ and top qualifier, Rick Huseman, started in 6^th place and quickly made his way through the pack.  Other front runners, Carl Renezeder, Kyle Leduc, Johnny Greaves, Adrian Cenni, and Ricky Johnson led the action for the early laps of the race.

RJ got bumped early on and was forced out of the race followed shortly by Cenni as he ran into engine troubles.  Greaves was spun out and wound up finishing a lap down.  Todd Leduc was a surprise addition to the front of the pack, as Kyle and Todd chased down Carl and Rick.  Unfortunately, Kyle got off his line in turn 5 and flipped multiple times.  This allowed Huseman to push the lead as Renezeder lost 4WD, and Todd Leduc got a flat.  Travis Coyne managed to move up to third place and that’s how the race finished, much like the final Pro 4 race of 2010.

Pro Lite – The Pro Lite field was much deeper today than it’s been in a while, but had the same drivers on the podium as in the past.

Brian Deegan started out in front, and kept it that way for the remainder of the race.  There was some excitement and bumping by Rodrigo Ampudia, Cameron Steele and Casey Currie which cost them a run at the podium.  In the end Chris Brandt and Jimmy Stephensen managed to break from the pack and finish on the podium.

Pro 2 – The Pro 2 race ended with a major controversy for third place.  The race started innocently enough, as Brian Deegan, Bryce Menzies, Carl Renezeder and Rob MacCachren all started in the lead and kept it that way through the mandatory caution.

Eventually Bryce and Carl managed to get around Deegan to finish 1^st and 2^nd, but that’s where the controversy begins for third place.  Deegan and MacCachren got mixed up on the final lap, with Deegan overly leaning into MacCachren on turn 3.  MacCachren didn’t appreciate Deegan’s free-ride and nudged him in turn 4 spinning him around.  That allowed Robby Woods to finish in 4^th place behind MacCachren.  After the checkered flag, race officials reviewed the tapes and originally ruled that MacCachren and Deegan should switch places giving Deegan the 3^rd place finish.

Upon further review they ruled that Deegan was also at fault, thus moving Robby Woods up to a third place finish. MacCachren, one of the cleanest racers out there, was not happy with the result, believing that if driver’s are going to use other cars to help them make a turn, than he’s going to have to change how he races.  In the end, results won’t matter too much for the points race, as Bryce Menzies will not be racing in the Lucas Series as Red Bull has ordered the team to only race in TORC this year, so figure out for yourself how that effects the points standings.

CHANDLER, AZ (March 17, 2011) – On the eve of the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series season, seven-time national champion Carl Renezeder is excited about a new beginning. He and his crew spent a lot of time at the track during the off-season finding ways to shave seconds off their lap times. They’re hopeful that all the research and development will pay off, and they’re confident that new crew chief, Bill Smith of ProFab Motorsport, will lead the way.

“This has been one of the best off-seasons we’ve had in a long time,” commented Renezeder. “I feel like we’ve really done our research and found some things that will make us quicker on the track. And I’m thrilled that Bill Smith is back here at Team Renezeder, returning as crew chief, with his sharp engineering mind and experience. I won my first championship with him in 2003, and I’m looking forward to winning more with him in the years to come.”
The team didn’t go through quite as many changes as the trucks did during the off-season. Brett Repella returns as Lead Mechanic on Renezeder’s Pro-4, while Brandon Chavez begins his sophomore season as the Pro-2 Lead Mechanic. Bob Mercer continues as Lead Mechanic on the second Pro-4, which will be driven this year by Kent Brascho, and Mike Karaba is the team’s machinist. New to the team in 2011 are mechanic, Jeremy Hubbell, and administrative assistant Francine Peralta. For help on the race weekends, Jason Witt, Doug Hyde and Jim Hogle have returned to the team.
“It feels like life has come full circle for me,” explained Smith. “I’m excited to be back on the team, and in just the few days I’ve been able to spend with the crew so far, I’ve felt very welcomed. I look forward to the upcoming season and plan to be here for a very long time. It feels like home.”
The season begins tomorrow, March 18, with practice at 10:30 a.m. and qualifying at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, the season’s first race will follow 2:00 p.m. opening ceremonies and will continue with round two on Sunday at the same time. Preparation is done, and now it’s time to find out if all that work is going to pay off.

LAKE FOREST, CA (December 8, 2010) – What started ten months ago in the Las Vegas desert will wrap up this weekend for Carl Renezeder and his team at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Arizona. The 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing series will crown its champions after the final points races on Saturday, and then Sunday is all about bragging rights and big cash. Renezeder is still in position for a second-place finish in both the Pro-4 and Pro-2 divisions, and as the defending 2009 winner of the Rockstar Energy Drink Lucas Oil Challenge Cup, he’s looking to make it back-to-back titles with a win again this year.

“We’d really like to put a positive cap on this season with a big win on Sunday,” commented Renezeder, “but first we’ve got some points races to settle on Saturday. We may be out of the race for number one, but we’re going into the weekend in second in both divisions, and a couple of wins would secure those finishes. It’s been an up and down season, and we’d like to finish on a good note.”

Of his 92 career short-course wins, Renezeder added five this season with two in his new Pro-4 and three in his Pro-2. The event at Firebird will be a first for the series, which usually bodes well for Renezeder. He’s a veteran of the sport and a quick study of new tracks. The brand new facility should be a perfect venue to showcase all of the Lucas Oil off-road stars in their season finale.

The weekend will start with an open practice for the pro classes on Thursday afternoon, followed by another practice session for all classes Friday morning and qualifying Friday afternoon. Round 15 of the 2010 season will be contested on Saturday afternoon, and the Cup race will round out the weekend and the season on Sunday afternoon. Team General Tire presents the Carl Renezeder race recap from the LOORRS Surprize, AZ Speedworld race.

LAKE FOREST, CA (September 29, 2010) – Seven-time national short-course champion Carl Renezeder has often said, “It’s all about the battle.”  This past weekend in Surprise, Arizona at Speedworld Motorsports Complex, that’s exactly what he got.  With the bad-luck gremlin seemingly gone from his pit and his trucks back on the top of their game on Saturday, Renezeder was given the opportunity to focus on driving to the front, which is just what he did in both classes.  While fighting triple-digit temperatures, he secured wins in both Pro-4 and Pro-2, bringing his career short-course win total to 91.

“There are two things that got me here today,” explained a rather relieved Renezeder from the top spot on the podium after the Pro-4 win on Saturday, “my team and my sponsors.  I wouldn’t be here without them.”

The crowd saw action on the track that made the Arizona desert heat seem tame.  After qualifying third in his Lucas Oil/General Tire Pro-4, then starting outside second row because of the three-row invert, Renezeder settled into his groove and showed patience, which allowed him to stay out of the tangle-up in turn four that resulted in a complete restart.  At the second drop of the green, he got a better start and was able to settle into third place behind Mike Johnson and Travis Coyne.  Renezeder got around Coyne when he got sideways coming out of turn five, then great battles with Johnson ensued.  Adrian Cenni kept him honest from the third-place position, but Renezeder made the pass on Johnson stick before the mandatory yellow.  The restart found his front left tire going flat, but it hung on for the remainder of the race, as did Renezeder, to record win number 90 in the books.

Less than an hour later, Renezeder climbed into the #17 Pro-2, ready fight the good fight again.  Fresh off the Pro-4 win, confidence was high as he lined up on the inside of points leader Rob MacCachren on the third row.  The two had to get around Mike Johnson, Bryce Menzies (row one) and Rodrigo Ampudia and Greg Adler (row two) if they wanted a shot at winning round 11 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.

Renezeder found himself in fifth place at the completion of lap one and worked his way to fourth behind Menzies, Adler and MacCachren before a full-course caution bunched up the field.  The green flew again and Renezeder got around MacCachren in turn three to put himself in third for the mandatory caution.  The second half of the race was some of the best action the class has seen all season.  Renezeder worked his way around Adler and Menzies, as did MacCachren, setting up a three-lap dogfight to the checkers.  Renezeder held his ground and found himself in winner’s circle one more time, relishing in all the things he loved about off-road racing.

“That was fun.  Great job guys,” commented Renezeder on the radio just after the checkered flag flew.

After the elation of Saturday, a second-place finish to MacCachren in Pro-2 on Sunday felt less celebratory than it should have been.  And when Renezeder lost front-wheel-drive in the Pro-4 on the last lap, forcing an eighth-place finish, the team lost a little wind out of their sails.  But with the best results overall of the season for the team, they headed back to the race shop with the confidence that the program was headed back in the right direction.

Three more rounds of racing are left in the points chase, followed by the second annual Lucas Oil Challenge Cup on December 12^th at the new Firebird Raceway venue in Chandler, Arizona, to close out the 2010 season.

SURPRISE, AZ – (September 28, 2010) – The heat of the Arizona desert was no match for the heat of Round 11 of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Race at the legendary Speedworld Off Road Race Park in Surprise, Ariz. Saturday. General Tire’s Carl Renezeder battled it out for first place in Pro 4 and Pro 2, marking unbelievable milestones in his off-road racing career – his 90th and 91st wins. To top off the victorious weekend, Renezeder took home second place Sunday in Pro 2.

As the flag hit the dirt at the much anticipated Pro 4 race Saturday, Carl Renezeder took off close to the head of the pack in fourth position. After an enormous pileup required a full restart, Renezeder pushed hard, taking second. He muscled his way past the competition to take the lead. In the final lap of the race, Renezeder set the pace at 54.562 to hold his 1st place position for the win, and to add a 90th victory to his already remarkable career.

But the action-packed weekend had not seen its final thrills. In Pro 2, Renezeder stole the spotlight Saturday for an incredible win at perhaps the most exhilarating race of the day. Renezeder started in fourth position again, but positions meant little this early on, with an unbelievable mix-up about to ensue. Driving deep down the inside of turn three, Renezeder passed his opponents to take third. He picked up second position, driving at incredible speeds and battling hard to steal first place. In the final lap of the race, Renezeder held strong to take home his second win of the day and the 91st win of his career.

“This was a heart-pounding race. The crowd was going wild and no one could have predicted who would finish first. But Carl is an incredible driver and he fought hard for this win,” said Spencer Robinson, events coordinator, General Tire. “We’re so proud of Carl, and as always, we can’t wait to see what kind of fury he’ll unleash next.”

On Sunday’s Round 12 of the series, Renezeder stormed the podium once more, with a second place standing in the Pro 2 race.

Pro4 – the true highlight of the day, the Pro4 race delivered the best
action of the day at Speedworld for Round 12 of the Lucas Oil Off-Road
Racing Series. Kyle Leduc led for most of the race with Huseman,
Renezeder and Johnson stalking him lap after lap. There were a couple
of full course cautions that slowed down the field, especially when
Cenni’s vehicle caught fire. After the restart Huseman really put the
pressure on Kyle, and Kyle made a mistake in turn 7 that allowed
Huseman, Renezeder and Johnson by him. With Huseman in the lead, Carl
and Mike were battling it out for second place. Unfortunately,
Johnson flipped in turn 4 and Carl got caught in the mayhem, allowing
Kyle and Travis Coyne by in the final lap. Huseman cruised to the win
and gets himself one step closer to the overall points title.

ProLite – Once again Marty Hart ran away with the race, only to have
mechanical difficulties cost him the win. Hart was cruising to
victory, until his power steering went out on the final lap. Deegan
and Brandt took advantage of the situation while Marty managed to hold
on for third place

Pro2 – This race had a number of crashes and had a couple of full
course cautions. The first was for Robby Woods, who up to that point
was in third place when his engine blew and his truck caught on fire.
The second caution occurred when Geiser in the Canidae truck flipped
multiple times off of a jump. Once the action restarted MacCachren was
unstoppable and cruised to an easy victory, he was followed by
previous days winner Renezeder and Bryce Menzies.
