The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series will likely see a large increase in entries during this weekend’s final round and the coveted Challenge Cup event. No doubt, with the $35,000 purse on the line during the Pro Lite vs. Pro Buggy race, it will be no easy task to outdrive a massive field of trucks and buggies. One entry, new to short course racing, will be giving it his best shot.

Notable desert racer Jason McNeil has arranged for his first opportunity to get behind the wheel of Rodrigo Ampudia’s Ford Pro Lite. “I have always been a fan of how intense wheel-to-wheel short course racing is,” explained Jason. “I know the Ampudia’s maintain top of the line equipment and this Pro Lite is capable of winning. I don’t have any experience in short course, but I have driven a large variety of race cars and can adapt quickly. I am looking forward to competing during HYPERLINK “http://www.lucasoiloffroad.com” LOORRS Round 15 and hopefully I can make it into the Challenge Cup on Sunday.”

The Pro Lite will be decked out in the traditional FiberwerX themed paint scheme and is sponsored by Papa’s & Beer, Lucas Oil, Fox Shoxs, and FiberwerX. In addition to the Pro Lite, there will also be two new Trophy Karts decked out in FiberwerX colors. Every year a dynamic group of enthusiasts gather at the Del Mar Fairgrounds during the historic San Diego County Fair to show off their passion for off road. The annual Tuff Trucks Competition put on by WGAS Motorsports is one of the few events that allow amateur racers, professional racers, and plain old desert enthusiasts to come together and compete in front of a large crowd. Everything from garage built pre runners to full blown trophy trucks come out to demonstrate to the fair’s crowd that their trucks are tough enough to make it around a brutal short course.

For most of the trucks it appeared to be 35 seconds of pure abuse. For the Fiberwerx Trophy truck it looked like a tank driving over speed bumps. Dan Vance in his Total Chaos Toyota made it look like his personal playground and Fish Farner in the DGAF TrophyLite methodically cruised the course proving that slower is sometimes faster. And while a Jeep built for this type of racing would take the win this year it was no question that the stars of the show were those who chose to go big and keep the skinny pedal to the floor when approaching the big bumps. I think most will agree that while we never wish anyone to take home a wrecked truck, inside the carnage is what brings us to this event year in and year out. I mean what’s better than hearing the crowd “oooohhhhhh” from a truck coming to a near stop while stuffing the front end into the dirt?

For me the highlight of the event was a toss up. The easy choice would be Dan Vance boosting his Toyota off the final jumps like Bo and Luke Duke were behind the wheel. You could almost hear the truck play Dixie as it lifted into the air. While there were tons of hard hits and near misses I will admit that for me the highlight of the show was seeing the silver Ford Expedition stuff the front end so hard the air bag blew out. Instead of pulling off they just hammered down and not only finished the run but came back out for their second! To me that’s what Tuff Trucks is all about, boys willing to put their trucks on the line and let it all hang out just to put on a show!

Round three of the 2010 Competitive Metals Championship presented by DRIVE

FiberwerX Off Road Fiberglass is pleased to announce the continued support of the DRIVE Racing Series and encouragement of Desert Racing in the Imperial Valley. In addition to the Title Sponsorship of September 18th Night Race, FiberwerX is leading the way to having 25 trucks in the 1450 class race for free.

FiberwerX is working with several other companies as well as DRIVE Off Road Racing to put together a sponsorship package that will cover the entry cost of (25) 1450 racers at the FiberwerX WCT Townsel Mermorial Night Race. 25 names will be drawn from a hat on Saturday at the drivers meeting. The entry fees for those 25 teams will be refunded by the end of the race. To be eligible all teams must pre-registered by Saturday September 4th and have paid the entry fee before the end of registration on Sept 18.

When all is said and done there is expected to be up to 50 trucks racing the 1450 class at this event. The only fees that the raffle winning teams will have to pay are the $20 Survey Fund and the $25 Year End Points Fund. All other cost associated with the entry fee are being covered by FiberwerX and the associated event promotion.

Jason McNeil of FiberwerX commented on the additional support which he has inspired. “The 1450 style truck racing is where I came from. My brothers and I built off road trucks at home. My dad pulled his cars out of the garage, and before he knew it, my brothers and I would have a truck torn up and half way built by the time he knew the garage was a work shop.” Jason continued, “Supporting this division of racing is very rewarding. I know what it is like showing up to a race and using your last couple hundred dollars for an entry fee. Hopefully this will help the Sportsman racers and everyone can support DRIVE to help develop relations with the Imperial Valley and the authorities that police our OHV lands.”

The FiberwerX WCT Townsel Memorial Night Race will be held on September 18th in Plaster City West.

What is WCT Townsel?

On Saturday morning May 16, 2009, Wes Townsel with his two sons, Cody 10 and Tanner 5, left his wife Jenifer and daughter Hailey at home. They were headed out to go fishing on the East Highline Canal, a normal trip where they had been countless times before, but this time they would not be coming home. As Wes was driving his sons to the canal they were involved in a tragic accident that took all three of their lives. Not only did this accident leave Jenifer with the unimaginable heartache of losing all three of her boys at once, but it also left her with the burden of having to pay for the services to put them to rest.

Wes and his family are close friends of Larry Cox and his wife Tracy. Most of you know that Larry and Tracy are dedicated volunteers of DRIVE. Larry spends countless hours in the desert with me looking for new courses and Tracy is an important part of our timing team. Wes was also a friend to the off roading community here in Imperial Valley. We named this race after Wes, Cody, and Tanner to give back to the Cox Family, the Townsels, and to the Imperial Valley Community.

How will award be distributed? FiberwerX will award the 1st – 3rd place finisher of participating divisions who clear all mandated requirements. “Finisher’s” must complete race under own power, A “DNF” does not qualify for award. The certificates are to be distributed at the end of the event; however, it will be the racer and team’s responsibility to collect the contingency award.

“Pistol” Pete Sohren has been a character charged personality of the off road motorsport industry for over a decade. For more reasons than many will ever know, Pistol enjoys a large following of fans and is often considered a favorite to win at any race he enters due to the all or nothing driving style. His fellow Trophy Truck peers deem Pete a highly skilled driver and respect him for the many personal sacrifices arranged just to make it to the race.

The opening event for the Best In The Desert Series has been a favorite among Trophy Truck Drivers and sets the mood for the rest of the season. The terrain is usually wet and wild. The Course is fast and unforgiving. Pistol Pete Sohren has been itching to enter and as of late really shown his skills and resilliance. On the January 27th edition of Totally Off Road Radio it was announced that Pistol would be handing over the famous center driven #2 Three-Seater Trophy Truck for only the third time ever to another driver.

Jason McNeil, young gun driver of FiberwerX Racing’s #50 Trophy Truck (the only other 3-seater truck in the division) will be taking the wheel of Pete’s notoriously “Phast” Ford for the second half of the BITD Parker Race. Not only will Jason bring the truck to the finish line, he will act as co-pilot during Qualifying and is scheduled to ride passenger during the first half of the race as well. Fellow Trophy Truck driver Cameron Steele will co-dawg as well, filling out the third seat and making this one interesting cockpit.

What gives you ask? “Well,” Pistol explained “I see a lot of me in Jason and I want to give him the chance no one ever gave me.” Jason and the FiberwerX Team did not have the BITD Race on the schedule and are currently preparing the #50TT for the next event. During the recent SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, Jason showed up hot for the race and qualified in an impressive 6th place with minimal seat time. Pete, however stole the show and qualified 3rd. Jason’s luck ran out on the first day when an upper control arm folded and ended the effort for the weekend.

The strategy for Parker is to qualify well, and from there, “Go all out for the WIN”. With the truck holding together and with Jason riding the first half gaining knowledge of the course and the truck he should have no problem bring it home in top finishing order. Pete continued jokingly, “He’s destroyed a Class 8 and Trophy Truck in his last 2 races so I hope he has some skills left that I keep hearing about.”

“I am very excited with the chance to get to drive the #2 TT for the 2nd Half of the race.” Jason beamed with excitement. “I would like to thank Pistol for this tremendous opportunity. I have always thought of him as one of the top drivers in the sport just without budget of these big teams” “I feel like Pistol Pete is a lot like me in the fact that we make so many sacrifices to make these races. We have similar driving styles and we work every day on our own trucks because we do not have the same fortune as our competitors. For both of us, our lives nearly revolve around this sport. I am looking forward to showing what I can do and to do a good job for Pete”

What a weekend, what a show! The Off Road Expo is a true gage that exemplifies what is going on in and around the off road community. It is great to see the industry thriving despite the hard economic times that the country is experiencing under the current recession. So many companies continue to step it up and show off their new developments, display project vehicles, and network with enthusiasts. Even with the Powder Puff Race taking place during the same day, the expo saw good crowds and a constant buzz of people excited to be there.

The Off Road Expo offers a platform for the FiberwerX Brand to flex some muscles and share our success. Each year as the company grows, FiberwerX is proud to state that we have increased our presence and influence throughout the show. Going bigger and better each year posses a difficult challenge to top our previous effort. The creative team that drives the FiberwerX Operation, began planning the action months before the Expo. Brian Binkert from Bink Designs has been instrumental since he started with the company and his influence is quiet apparent in our day to day operations. Coordinating the booth displays and layout, to the fliers and marketing material, Brian has his hands in all aspects and promotions.

This year’s Expo presented hundreds of high performance off road vehicles and many of those cars were outfitted with our Off Road Fiberglass Products. FiberwerX is proud to maintain stable relationships with the industries finest vehicle builders and retailers. As the off road industries top manufacturer of custom designed body panels, quality and customer service is our #1 priority. We are stoked to add Simon Perez as a full time sales rep. Simon a true off road racer is great shock guy and has over 10 years of sales experience from his time at ORW.

Besides some sexy off road cars on display including a Raceworks Designed Trophy Truck PreRunner, and the #34 Trophy Truck, we had six classy FiberwerX girls working the show and driving more traffic right to our booth. Once there, our guest had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the very cool Extreme Motion Simulator. This thing is real deal and a lot of fun. Pretty much blows the Baja Bully Dog Simulator out of the water. The Extreme Motion off road Simulator had a line of people waiting to try it out all weekend. With nearly 360 degrees of movement and a 37″ flat screen, the driver sits in a vehicle cockpit and feels real movement & motion of the car flying through the air, side to side, up & down, forward & backwards, depending on the vehicle control in the game. Playing Dirt with the mechanics and electric actuators was really a whole new experience on the Extreme Motion Simulator. FiberwerX arranged a promotion where the weekends fastest driver won $200 in FiberBucks. 1:50:02 was placed by 14 year old Carson Humphries who came all the way from Baja North in Canada for the show.

One vehicle that was absent from the show was the FiberwerX built San Vicente Class 8. Ricardo Sanchez was racing down at the Record San Vicente 200. A really great event was had by all participants but Ricardo had the best day taking the overall win in the Ford Class 8.

For the 2009 Pomona Off road Expo presented by Toyota, the FiberwerX Booth #201will present a variety of attractions to stimulate enthusiasts from all walks of life. A variety of high performance off Road Vehicles featuring FiberwerX Off Road Fiberglass Products will be the focal point, however we intend to draw in traffic with our very attractive FiberwerX Umbrella Girls. Available for autographs and posing for pictures, these ladies were a big hit last year and we had to have them back.

For the youngsters we have arranged for attendees to DEMO an Extreme Motion Simulator. These guys have made simulators for Tony Stewart, NASCAR, and even the military. Extreme Motion Simulation has raised the bar, real time, real look, and real feel. The simulator is built on a state of the art motion system platform with full 5 –axis movement. Driven by powerful computer software that delivers life like motion, Extreme Motion Simulator enhances any game play. The original DIRT game will be available to throw down you best lap time on selected tracks. It was scheduled to run Dirt 2 but the game developers have not release a PC version.

We are excited to have a Stewart’s Raceworks designed Trophy Truck Prerunner in the #201Booth. FiberwerX has extensive relationships throughout the off road industry and Craig Stewart recognized this when he commissioned our design team to design a new look for the world famous Stewart’s Raceworks built TT Prerunners. John Tripp was brought in to create a stylish 2009 look that would flow with the Racework’s fashion and appeal. FiberwerX did a number of upgrades and finish work and we are pumped to showcase our capabilities.

As the centerpiece, the #34 FiberwerX Trophy Truck will be on display. So far this year The FiberwerX Team has achieved two 2nd overall podium finishes with the #34 TT at a CODE San Louis Event and the DRIVE Race: FiberwerX Still Of The Night 200. The #50 TT may or may not be on the grounds of the expo, but one thing is for certain it will be looking hot and dirty as FiberwerX Racing is headed out this weekend to race against Roger Norman and Vidosola at the CODE Mexican Logistics 300.

We are also proud to debut a 1/5th scale model of the FiberwerX TT built on a HPI Chassis Baja 5T. John Tripp A.K.A Hawaii is well known throughout the industry for his artistic ability, design skills, and shaping ability. His talents are now being implemented into other markets, and FiberwerX is excited about these new opportunities.
The Off Road Expo is the Industry’s largest consumer trade show focusing on disciplines and genre of off road motorsports and recreation. There will be hundreds of high performance vehicles on display including top of the field and championship winning race cars trophy trucks and buggies from all division.

Manufactures and distributors will be featuring all the latest products and gear. You can count on plenty of giveaways and specials all weekend long. The Expo is a great family fun event with plenty of autograph signings and take home prizes. For the bigger kids there will be dozens of attractive umbrella girls and promo models to take pictures of and with.

The entire FiberwerX Crew cannot thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting our event on May 2nd. We all had a great time meeting new people, talking to old friends and sharing our accomplishments with the rest of the community. We estimate about 2,000+ people stopped by throughout the course of the day and are very pleased to call the event a true success.

Without a doubt, most everyone who attended was stoked on the FREE Carne Asada BBQ.
Carlos and his crew (from Baja Pits / U.S. Wheels) cooked up 250 pounds of fresh beef. We want to give big thanks for volunteering and taking the initiative. We could not have done it without your help and expertise! Carlos later quoted “This was the biggest off-road event I have been a part of, bigger than any SCORE & CODE drawing party combined. You guys put on a great event!”

San Diego local bands Skip Jack & FM Revolver kept the party flowing all day with great vocals and awesome riffs under the Dirt Alliance tent performing several sets to the large crowd throughout the day! Dirt Alliance was passing out free From The Dirt DVD’s which just won the 2009 Best Off-Road Truck Video Extremy Award. Travis Siflinger was on hand giving away free passes and promoting the upcoming SXS Stadium Series that’s happening this Saturday, May 9th at Perris Automotive Speedway, so don’t miss out! The FiberwerX girls were out in force hanging out and taking pictures with everyone at the show. Didn’t they look good? ☺ Curtis & Klaus from Race-Dezert.com setup a booth and had Heidi Steele signing autographs near the end of the day. RDC donated some of the DP Series DVD’s to FiberwerX to play on our big 60” Plasma for people to watch, relax & eat tacos inside our shop.

Local friends SDORC (San Diego Off-Road Coalition) stepped up and played a big part to help our raffle go down. The night before our event Meg from ORBA got in a horrible accident on the 78 and her truck was totaled (she is fine by the way) so we are very happy that SDORC was able to show up and make it happen! We accumulated $12K of contributions from FiberwerX, Drive Racing Series, Tubeworks, Bully Dog, Light Force, Fox Racing Shocks, RacerX, Powder1, Mastercraft, L&M Tires/Toyo Tires, Race-Dezert, Dezert Nation, FX Fabrication, Richer Racing, Threat Motorsports, California Metal, JuanCO Performance, Bink Designs, Kleanwerx, National Spring, Shock Pros, Bee Hive Sports Bar, TrueLine, Havoc Motorsports, Sand Hustler Clothing,1450.org and late additions from 4130 Clothing, Paul at Racer Services, and Baja Mike at Kartek. We successfully raised $5,600 from raffle ticket sales to donate to ORBA / SDORC to help keep our deserts OPEN! The FiberwerX Crew is very grateful to all our vendors that contributed to the raffle and the offroad community working together to achieve our objectives while having a lot of fun doing it!

The Drive Racing Organization received numerous responses and attracted many new entries with their big pay outs, cash bonuses, and unique opportunities for racing in the Imperial Valley. The next event is the FiberwerX 200 Night Race, which will take place on Saturday, May 16th. The drawing was held at 3PM in the Dirt Alliance booth and there are currently 39 entries for The FiberwerX 200. If you’re a 1450 racer you need to come race this race! There are nineteen 1450’s entered and growing. If you are a ½ 1600 Racer, you have to get in on the Hare & Hound Bonus Program. There is a chance to win $4,000 or more with just 10 entries. FiberwerX is ankle deep into 2009 and we are experiencing a good influx of positive growth. We want to share our success and celebrate by inviting the offroad community to an Open House Party taking place on May 2nd at our new location on 8400 N. Magnolia Ave. Suite H. – Santee, CA 92071 .At the same time FiberwerX wants to do our part to stimulate good business throughout the offroad industry. Coordinating with many brands & companies, the FiberwerX Open House has quickly evolved into a small expo. A number of vendors will be on hand to participate and kick down sales & discounts on all sorts of merchandise & products. We have received a tremendous amount of feedback and response, and more companies are signing up daily.

FiberwerX has reached out to ORBA and we have organized a raffle to benefit this local organization that has done so much for the Offroad Industry over the years. The reaction and participation from industry companies across the board has been completely unbelievable, and we are expecting more prizes to be added to the ORBA Benefit Raffle as more companies become aware. So far we have allocated over $10,000+ in goods and accessories.

In addition for the Open House, the FiberwerX Staff has arranged for a number of features and attractions that will keep the whole family and their friends entertained for hours. Live music including several popular headlining band will keep the atmosphere up beat throughout the day. Free Street Tacos and other food vendors will be on hand. A fun jump will be setup to keep the little ones entertained. An offroad vehicle show featuring avariety of race cars, trucks, prerunners and rhinos will be on display. And as always our favorite FiberwerX Girls will be doing their thing. The Dirt Alliance will be setting up a mini Dirt Tour that will give a good preview on how their events go down. Essentially, plenty of action and attractions for all is what we have scheduled.

We recently corresponded with DRIVE Racing to host a live drawing party for the upcoming May 16th Night Race taking place out in Plaster City. Doug Wasser, DRIVE’s President was elated to get involved. We all believe the open house event will help promote the new series and is just what is needed to get the racers aware of the program. 1450 ORG is already well aware of the DRIVE Series and has the Night Race scheduled for Round 3 of the 1450 ORG Series. We expect nearly 20 entries in the 1450 class alone. If you want to participate in any class in the DRIVE series which is well organized and has no bad habits, than make sure to get your entry form in to get your name in the Live Drawing taking place during the Open House.
