Honda teammates Wayne Matlock and Josh Caster headed to round 4 of the AMA District-38 Series, the Full Throttle 100 with both riders tied for the points lead. With both riders determined to take the win and the lead in points, this race was set to be a good one.

At the start, Matlock edged out Caster at the end of the bomb run as both riders lead the pack on their Honda TRX700XX’s. A few miles into the race Caster was able to pass Matlock when his seat latch released causing his seat to fall off. Just after Caster passed Matlock he missed a course marker and got lost causing him to loose the lead once again to Matlock. While Caster worked his way back towards the front, Matlock continued to pull away at the front of the pack.

Wayne Matlock

Near the end of the first lap, Caster was able to overtake Matlock who was still having seat problems. Caster used this to his advantage and worked to gain as much ground as possible. Near the end of the first lap Matlock was able to get his seat fixed and then he started the hard charge to retake the lead.

Caster held off Matlock charging hard all the way until the last lap. Both riders headed out on the last lap side-by-side thru pit row. At the end of pit row the teammates took off trying to be the first one to the turn. Matlock once again edged out Caster to the first turn leaving a blinding trail of dust. Caster continued to chase Matlock on the last lap until he managed to get a rear flat while charging thru the thick dust. After a quick stop and flat repair was unsuccessful, Caster continued on with the flat trying to remain in the #2 position.

Wayne and Josh

At the checkered flag Matlock had come out on top with Caster following in the second place spot. Even with the issues both riders faced this race, they were able to hold the top spots in points. Matlock’s win moves him 10 points ahead of Caster which will make the next round exciting as Caster tries to take the points lead back.
