Meet “The General” Brian Deegan, world famous freestyle motocross star, founder of the Metal Mulisha, and a championship contending racer for the Maxxis off-road team. Deegan is having a year for the ages on and off the track, so we’ll let him tell you how things are going.

1. You’re having an amazing year racing: X-Games Gold in Rally-X, numerous Pro-2 and Pro-Lite wins, what would you say has been the highlight so far?

This has by far been my best year ever competing. I’d say the highlight was winning the X-Games, beating the best rally drivers in the world in a sport that I only compete in once a year. I’ve just started racing cars and to straight up beat the best guys has been a big accomplishment. The Pro-2 and Pro-Lite program has been going great this year, lot’s of wins. I feel like we’ve been focused and just wanting to win everything that I can. The rally gold was a major accomplishment, and if I can win these championships this year, plus the whole Dave Mirra fight, beating up Dave Mirra, that was cool. It’s really going to be hard to top this year.

2. You’re racing in the Race of Champions this year. How do you feel about racing against the best drivers in the world?

I’m excited, it’s a cool opportunity to go race against Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettle; guys that are considered the best drivers in the world. I think it’s good for the off-road community to have someone over there representing our sport against the best drivers in the world. It’s great for everything that I’m involved in to go out there and justify it and spank these guys.

3. Who are the people that you look to for advice about racing?

I’m definitely not going to give away all of my secrets, but my advice comes from my coach, Cory Kruseman, he’s my driving coach and spotter, he’s my main guy. For rally car, Tanner Foust has helped me a lot and the team owner Andreas Ericson. I also listen to my mechanics, they keep their eye on what’s going on, which helps me a lot.

4. This is your second season with Maxxis. How have the tires helped your racing?

I think the Maxxis tires have been good, I made the switch a year ago and since then I’ve had great results, been winning a lot of races. The guys at Maxxis have been super cool, easy to work with and they’re always there to help me with whatever I want to do. It’s been a really good company and all of the guys are fun to be around.

5. You have a shot at a double championship at LOORS (Pro-2 and Pro-Lite), how do you about your odds of pulling this off?

I’d say if you had a million dollars to go and lay it down. So I think my odds are good. No one has ever won a championship in Pro-Lite and Pro-2 in the same year. Most of the guys driving in Pro-Lite are just coming up and have only been racing a few years like myself, so it’s rare to have the opportunity to win a championship in these two classes. Plus it’s my first full year in the Pro-2 class, and to have a chance to win a championship over MacCachren and Renezeder, guys with multiple championships, it’s a pretty crazy position to be in. I know I’m focused and have really invested a lot of time and effort and the resources to being the best that I can be and I’m just glad that it’s put me in this position. I feel like there’s been some luck, but there’s been a lot of work and I’ve worked hard to put myself in this position and I’m going to fight it all the way to the end. It’s already in my head and I’m focused on it and I want to win both of those championships super bad.

6. You spot for your daughter during her Trophy Cart races. Do you get more nervous for her races than your own?

Yeah, I get really amped up when Hailie races. I really want to help her do good., but it’s different when it’s your kid’s out there racing, makes you really nervous for sure.

Catch Deegan and the rest of the Maxxis team at the final round of the Lucas Off-Road Racing Series December 10th and 11th at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, AZ.

When the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) brought world-class short course racing to Utah last season, Team LeDuc Racing earned three podium finishes for ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Matika Tools. Coming back to Miller Motorsports Park for 2011, the LeDucs would settle for nothing less than a win at the all new one-mile track. The mammoth table top jump and long straight aways at Miller Motorsports Park are perfectly suited for the natural talent of Kyle, Todd, and Curt LeDuc. To illustrate the point, on Friday Kyle qualified first in Pro Lite Unlimited and he qualified second in Pro4 Unlimited, while he father Curt qualified 5th and his brother Todd qualified 6th for Saturday’s racing.

When the green flag dropped for Saturday’s LOORRS Pro4 Unlimited race, the packed stands were on their feet to watch Kyle get the hole shot in the No. 99 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Matika Tools Ford F-150. Curt was close behind in fourth place in the No. 43 Makita Tools / Truxxx Lift and Level and Todd was right behind his father in the No. 4 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Matika Tools truck. At the mandatory caution Kyle was in second place and Curt was in third, with Todd sitting in the 5th spot. With the green flag back out the action was intense and contact between Curt and another driver allowed Todd to move up to the third position, and with just a few laps remaining his brother Kyle took the lead from Carl Renezeder. With only one lap remaining the transfer case in Curt’s truck let go with a bang so loud it could be heard all the way back in the pits, where the crew pulled out their Makita cordless tools in preparation of the work to come. Curt was unable to continue, but he did get to see his son Kyle with the race, as well as set the fast lap for the day. Todd finished in fourth place, just missing the podium by a fraction of a second.

Kyle qualified first in Pro4 again on Sunday, hitting speeds over 75 mph on the long straight in front of the covered bleachers. Curt LeDuc qualified sixth in the Makita Tools / Truxxx Lift and Level Ford and Todd qualified seventh. The race started rough for Kyle, who got forced into a K rail by Josh Merrell early on. Kyle was able to recover though and pilot the No. 99 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools F-150 to a second place finish, putting him on the podium for the third straight race in a row and setting the fast lap for the second time in as many days. The LeDucs’ strong finishes at Miller Motorsports Park moved Kyle up to third place in points and Todd in sixth in Pro4 Unlimited, keeping them both in the thick of the series championship with the season half over.

Kyle LeDuc debuted his all new No. 99 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools Pro Lite Unlimited truck this weekend in Utah. After qualifying first on Friday, he knew that the truck had plenty of potential. Kyle was running in second during Saturday’s race when he lost an engine and rolled the truck on the passenger side. “I guess it is not new anymore!” lighthearted Kyle joked after the race. Fueled by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink, the LeDuc crew grabbed their Makita tools to get Kyle’s truck ready for Sunday’s race. The truck was not completed in time for qualifying, forcing Kyle to start in the back of the 13 truck field. Kyle methodically picked off the competition and had moved up to third place and was headed to the podium when a front Toyo Tire and Method wheel parted ways from the truck in the last corner of the track, leaving Kyle sitting in frustration on the K rail. “We are having the new truck blues,” Kyle explained after the race. “Our team will have everything sorted out for the next race at Glen Helen though, so look out.”

The next stop for the ‘Duc boys is back at Glen Helen Raceway on August 6th and 7th for more LOORRS racing. This track is considered “homefield advantage” due to its close proximity to LeDuc headquarters, and has already played host to a Team LeDuc ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools win earlier this season. If you missed Kyle’s win at Miller Motorsports Park, check your local listings for LOORRS coverage on CBS, the Speed Channel , Versus, and MavTV.

LOORRS rules state that any engine changes between qualifying and racing require the racer to move to the back of the field to prevent any unfair advantages. This put Rob Mac at the back of Saturday’s race, despite qualifying first. Rob worked the No. 1 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety truck up to mid-pack by the middle of the race, but contact with Greg Adler shortly before the competition yellow found himself at the back of the pack. Without enough time to work his way up to the front of the thirteen truck field, MacCachren finished seventh.

On Sunday, MacCachren made his presence known early by once again qualifying first. With the two-row inversion he started on the second row, but soon he was threatening for the lead. A spectacular wreck brought the caution flag out, with Greg Adler in the lead and Rob right behind him. The previous day’s contact was fresh in both of the drivers’ minds. Rob put the pressure on and Adler was the first to crack, catching a rut and bicycling his truck in turn one, allowing the No. 1 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety truck to take the lead. Rob Mac maintained his leading position through the mandatory caution and looked poised for yet another victory, but his transmission could not match Rob’s hardened determination and let go before the checkers came out. MacCachren finished ninth, despite setting the fastest lap time in the race. “It was a frustrating weekend for us,” Rob confessed at the end of the weekend. “We have the fastest combination in Pro2, but the results did not reflect that this weekend.”

Team LeDuc Racing considers Glen Helen Raceway their home track for its close proximity to their Cherry Valley headquarters, and the bleachers were packed with LeDuc fans last weekend for Rounds 5 and 6 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS). The LeDucs even sponsored the second annual Racers for Christ raffle for Chaplain Steve Hansen, under the perfect Southern California weather. The good karma certainly didn’t hurt, as Team LeDuc Racing had their most successful weekend of short course racing this season.

All three LeDucs qualified well for Saturday’s Pro4 Unlimited race, with Kyle hitting speeds over 65 mph to qualify first. Round 5 started well with Kyle LeDuc in third place, his brother Todd right behind him in the No. 4 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford, and his father Curt in fifth in the Makita Tools / Truxxx Lift and Level Ford. Unfortunately the race quickly took a turn for the worse when Kyle’s race ended when he experienced driveline failure. Todd and Curt held their positions for several laps, but hard contact from a competitor damaged a rear tire on Todd’s truck, forcing him into the hot pits and putting him at the back of the pack. Curt wasn’t immune from the carnage, and rear end issues pushed him back to seventh place by the end of the race. Todd never gave up and was able to make up enough ground in his ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford to finish in fifth place when the checkered flag came out.

Kyle LeDuc qualified first in not just Pro4 Unlimited, but Pro Lite Unlimited as well, despite the introduction of V8 engines to the Pro Light ranks. The inversion put Kyle’s No. 99 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools Pro Lite on the third row, but he picked off the competition with precision. The crowd was on their feet as LeDuc fought door-to-door with Rodrigo Ampudia and Jimmy Stephensen for second place. When the checkered flag came out Kyle finished in third place, less than four seconds behind the winner and ahead of all the new V8-powered trucks.

After the race the Makita tools were buzzing as the LeDucs mended their truck for Sunday’s races. Curt was unable to run in qualifying, but his truck was repaired in time for Round 6 racing. Sunday started much like Saturday, with the LeDucs running toward the front for the first half of the race. Fortunately their good karma paid off and they did not experience the same misfortune that plagued them on Saturday. By the mid-point of the race, Kyle was in the lead in his No. 99 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools F-150, while Todd was in fourth and Curt LeDuc was sitting in fifth place. Carl Renezeder slipped past Kyle for the lead late in the race, but Kyle was able to take back the lead in what was easily the best race of the weekend. The crowd erupted in cheers when Kyle crossed the finish line first, and his brother Todd finished just off the podium in fourth place. Curt LeDuc ended the race in sixth place in the No. 43 Makita Tools / Truxxx Lift and Level Ford.

In Pro Lite Unlimited on Sunday, Kyle was patient for the first half of the race, running fast but staying out of the fray that claimed several of the 17 competitors. After the mandatory caution half way through the race, Kyle pushed the No. 99 Pro Lite forward to battle for the lead, setting the fast lap in the process. He swapped the second place position with Chris Brandt for several laps, eventually besting Brandt to finish on the podium in second place.

If you missed the non-stop action at Glen Helen, keep an eye out for the LeDucs on CBS, the Speed Channel , Versus, and MavTV. Team LeDuc Racing now prepares for the next weekend of LOORRS racing at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah on June 25thand 26th. Last season at Miller Motorsports Park Todd LeDuc had two second place finishes, and his brother Kyle had a podium finish as well, so expectations are high coming into Rounds 7 and 8 of racing.

Starting at around 8am Saturday some of the fastest drivers in off-road racing got together at the Perris Auto Speedway in the heart of Riverside County California.

The founding and key members of the PDG (a drivers association) kicked the testing event of with a briefing to the media, sponsors and fellow racers. The TORC series promised a solid series at a time when everybody is still recovering from the collapse of the CORR series.

It costs a lot of money to race a competitive Pro4 or Pro2 truck let alone crash, so its important to be on a well viewed TV program. Sponsorship money gets paid out to the teams in proportion on how many eye balls a race will receive. Time will tell which one of the two new emerging race series will offer the most ROI.

What was nice for the drivers during the test session was that they had the opportunity to turn some laps and gentleman race each other. Unlike a real points race drivers where courteous to each other leaving plenty of room between themselves. However it was not boring at all as trucks passed each other as well and the lap speeds almost equaled those at competition.

First race will be May 15th in Dallas/Ft Worth Texas and with some luck perhaps we’ll have more opportunities to see testing session prior to that.

Las Vegas, Nevada – Combining decades of off road racing experience together under one truck roof was exactly what the Ford executives had in mind when they unleashed the 2009 version of the Ford F-150 Raptor Race Program. Two warriors and a host of celebrity racers have finished both of the 2009 Best in the Desert races in second place, tallying together important podium points in the chase for the 2009 BITD Series Championship.

Rockstar’s Rob MacCachren and his Ford F-150 Raptor Racing teammate, Steve Olliges, raced the near stock Ford F-150 to the podium in Class 8000 for the second race in a row. Olliges began the day in the #8011 race truck before handing it over to celebrity racer, Linsey Weenk.

The race week, however, started with the hosting of NASCAR driver, Greg Biffle and Linsey Weenk, the driver of the Built Ford Tough Monster truck.

Biffle joined the Las Vegas based off road racing duo on Thursday for some seat time behind the Ford F-150 race Raptor, before heading to Phoenix International Raceway, where he was victorious in Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

Linsey Weenk, who campaigns the Built Ford Tough Blue Thunder truck in Monster Jam, had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the race truck. Weenk took over driving duties from Steve Olliges for the entire 69-mile second lap.

BFGoodrich Tires Ambassador, Rob MacCachren, rode as the co-driver for the first time desert racer. Linsey Weenk was all business as they began their calculated charge into the Nevada desert.

MacCachren commented, “Linsey drove great. This was his first ever off road race and he drove very strategic. I will admit that it’s been quite some time since I’ve ridden in the right seat as a co-driver and Linsey got it done.”

After the completion of the second lap, MacCachren climbed behind the wheel while his co-regular co-driver, Brian Lopez, joined him in the truck. MacCachren rallied the Raptor race truck through the last lap establishing a wicked fast lap time before crossing the finishing line and taking the checkered flag.

“It’s exciting to be part of the Ford F-150 Raptor race program. All the partners involved in this project are so passionate about the sport. Ford has led the way for research and development in their truck programs through the sport of desert racing for decades, as has BFGoodrich and FOX RACING SHOX. They have all joined together developing a stock Ford Raptor that is truly amazing. We have punished this race Raptor in two of the biggest races so far this season and it continues to survive the demanding conditions of the Nevada desert,” said a smiling MacCachren.

The molten orange race Raptor, shod with 35-inch BFGoodrich Tires, suffered no flats over the course of the entire 207-mile racecourse. The Ford F-150 Raptor will next race the longest off road race in the United States, the BITD Vegas to Reno race on August 19-23, 2009.

Rob MacCachren’s next race is May 11, 2009 in Caliente, Nevada where he will race the Rockstar 1-2 1600 single-seat car at the SNORE Caliente 250. He will be defending his back-to-back victories thus far in the 2009 SNORE Desert Racing Series after wins at Battle at Primm and the Mint 400.

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 30, 2009) Rockstar Energy Racing’s Rob MacCachren defied the majority of the odds in what may be considered one of the most incredible racing wins in the history of the legendary Mint 400. Facing several hundred competitors, all vying for a piece of the latest 2009 edition of the MINT 400, Las Vegas racer, Rob MacCachren, drove his single-seat Alumi Craft 1600 race car to victory among the nation’s top 1600 desert racers.

What is so incredible, however, is that the talented MacCachren finished the race in 8th position physically and although the official results have yet to be released, it appears that Rob may have finished 8th overall… all of this in an Alumi Craft limited 1600 race car!

It was a flawless day for the off road racing legend who celebrated his 44th birthday only days before the Mint 400.

MacCachren’s solo effort over the roughest terrain ever raced in the United States will go down as one of the Mint 400 classics.

The early morning start amid some of the most difficult and blinding silt ever experienced by racers, led to a massive pile up of race cars only 4.5 miles off the start. The silt combined with the blinding rising sun tested the ultimate endurance of man and machine. The black 1600 Rockstar Energy Racing single-seat buggy slithered through the carnage and when MacCachren came out of the silt bed unscathed, he was all business.

He never got out of his Mastercraft 3G office chair throughout the nearly 10 hour ordeal and he was in good spirits as he bombed through the desert, passing the competition, all the while communicating with his race team.

“The amount of race vehicles on the course was amazing. After the first lap there were cars and trucks strewn out everywhere. I was surprised by the amount of quality teams sidelined early in the race, but this area north of Las Vegas has not been raced on in over ten years and we expected it to be bad,” commented MacCachren at the finish line.

“The Rockstar Energy Racing 1600 buggy was flawless today. I have to thank everyone that is part of this program starting with Rockstar, Alumi Craft and John Cooley who built this car, FOX Racing Shox, BFGoodrich Tires, Kartek, Folts Transmissions, FAT Performance Racing Engines along with all of our associate sponsors that make such great contributions to our single-buggy program. My prep guy, Ian Beaman, did a fantastic job at prepping the car along with Brian Lopez and the crew that supported me on the race course. It’s great to win, but this Mint 400 victory is really really sweet.”

Rob MacCachren was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and first attended the Mint 400 race as a young child with his father and grandfather, both desert racers. Following in the footsteps of the elder MacCachren’s, the multi-time championship off road racer has staked a big claim in the Mint 400 heritage with his tremendous wild run that will not soon be forgotten.

Rob MacCachren is sponsored by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink , BFGoodrich Tires, ALUMI CRAFT, FOX RACING SHOX, Fat Performance, KC Hi-Lites, Dave FOLTS Transmission, KARTEK, Pro-AM, Mastercraft Race Seats and Nevada OFFROAD Buggy.
