Rob MacCachren came to Firebird International Raceway for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season finale looking to add a sixth win in the 15 round series.  He qualified third on Friday, putting him on the second row for Saturday’s last points race of the season. Rob Mac was out front in the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety truck and set the fast lap for the race.  He was well on his way to yet another victory when Brian Deegan dove under MacCachren in Turn 3 late in the race and put Rob on his roof.  Deegan was black flagged for his actions and moved to the back of the pack, but the damage had been done and Rob limped around the track to finish mid-pack.  Rob Mac’s five victories in Pro2 Unlimited are more than any other competitor, but incidents like Saturday’s resulted in some uneven finishes this season that caused MacCachren to finish second in points.

MacCachren’s veteran crew worked past midnight on Saturday to prepare his truck for the $30,000 Lucas Oil Challenge Cup race on Sunday afternoon.  MacCachren started on the fifth row next to Brian Deegan in the cup race that pitted Pro2 Unlimited and Pro4 Unlimited trucks against each other for a 25 truck battle royal.  Rob has significant cup experience with three Borg Warner Cup titles to his credit, so he patiently stayed out of the fracas while trucks flipped and disintegrated around him.  Late in the race he was looking to strike when hard contact from Jeff Geiser put Rob Mac’s truck into limp mode.  He coaxed the injured steed around the track to finish out of the money in seventh place.

Brian Deegan took the momentum from Glen Helen and brought it straight to Arizona, winning not only Prolite but also in Pro 2. Starting off on the pole Deegan never made a mistake and led the entire race. Rob MacCachren would try and find a line around Deegan but was never able to make the pass. Jeremy McGrath battled his way through the field to take the last spot on the podium.

In Pro 4 Kyle Leduc took the top spot after getting around Cenni and never looking back. Cenni had to drop out with mechanical problems after having some contact with Carl Renezeder after the mogul section. After the contact smoke starting coming from Cenni’s truck and after a few lap was forced to pull over. Huseman had second place lined up but spun out after the whoops letting Carl get by so he had to settle for third place.

Prolite was once again the Deegan show as after battling with Cory Sissler, who ended up blowing his motor, took the top spot and kept it the rest of the race. Rodrigo Ampudia pushed his truck hard to try and get around him but just needed a few more laps. Chris Brandt rounded out the the top 3 in Prolite, getting some much needed points to stretch his point lead.

Rob MacCachren showed everyone this past week that when your drivers education teacher told you to keep two hands on the wheel, it actually slows you down.  Coming off a broken collar bone after a rollover in his Pro 2 truck a month back at Glen Helen, MacCachren not only reached the podium last week out in Crandon, but also took the overall win in his Trophy Truck today at the SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions race.   Also impressive is that he won this same race back in March, but nearly 5 minutes slower then his winning time of today.  Tavo Vildosola led most of the race only to be slowed down by a hub issue at race mile 196, allowing Rob Mac gain the lead again.

In Class 1 Dan McMillin who teamed up with Chuck Hovey once again took the top spot in their respective class.  Both drivers are coming off impressive showings at the BITD Vegas 2 Reno race where Hovey grabbed a top 5, and Dan finished in the Top 10 at his first stab at racing a Trophy Truck with his dad Mark.  Coming in second place was the always fast Letner Racing who had the lead but was forced to drive the last 30 miles with no power steering slowing them down.

The real winner in San Felipe were Gatorade and water bottle companies as the heat took its toll on everyone.  Contingency on Friday was a ghost town most of the day with very little vendors, and everyone rushing through to get their cars past tech to stay out of the heat.  With temps reaching over 100 in town and humidity at 40% people stayed inside, in the pool, or at the bar to keep cool.  On race day the usual overpopulated Zoo Road was probably only at 40% capacity.   Other popular spectating spots on the course also had less spectators, leading people to wonder is the lack of spectators due to the high heat or because of the lack of entries?

- Jesse Ashcraft was in third place in Trophy Truck when rolled the truck at race mile 248.  Medical help was requested for the codriver but was later canceled.
- Caspino was stuck on the dry lake bed for a while as they could be heard on Weatherman asking for help repeatedly.
- Andy McMillin sat this one out in his Trophy Truck but shared driving duties with his older sister Jessica in the protruct.  Word on the street is that he is selling the Trophy Truck to get another Protruck.  Not really.
- Justin Davis threw a fan belt and had power steering issues slowing him down off the start.
- CTR Trophy Truck cracked oil pan.
- Bad Apple Racing blew a motor.
- Their seemed to be more Ford Raptors in town then race entires.

Lucas Oil put on another great event tonight giving the fans not only a cool place to watch racing in the hot summer months, but also giving them an action packed night of racing. The crowds packed the stands and the racers gave them what they want, door to door action with great battles in all the classes. The usual suspects were on top in the three pro truck classes with Rick Huseman, Rob MacCachren, and Brian Deegan all taking the checkered flags. The night ended later then everyone expected, though everyone stayed in the stands till the very end regardless. In my opinion they shouldn’t put times on their schedule of events, just a start time for opening ceremonies and then another line saying “When people stop rolling and jumping the start is when we’ll finish.”

The night had a few good rollovers, most notable in the Superlite class where it seems like every lap someone went over. Maybe in the Superlite class you get additional points for rollovers. Justin “Bean” Smith did his best Jerry Whelchel impression when he ended up on top of a rolled over Jerry whelchel in the Pro Buggy class. Wasn’t his fault, when you race open wheel cars contact is bound to happen. It will be interesting to see how they both end up in points as that class is very tight and they both finished mid pack. The Pro 2 race had some great battles with many lead changes and a great overall show. And finally Casey Currie gets the style points of the night as he finished his race in reverse, similar to Armin Schwartz in the SCORE Laughlin race, only Casey didn’t almost take everyone out.

Race-dezert.com spent the day at Glen Helen yesterday with Brian Deegan during his Pro 2 and Pro-lite practice laps.  Check it out as Brian explains the difference between racing the two trucks.

MasterCraft Racing came to Mexico for the 43rd annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 with high expectations.  After winning the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 Rob MacCachren was second in season points and looking to continue his march towards the season championship.  Meanwhile teammate, Robbie Pierce, was looking to end his string of bad luck in the desert.  Both were successful as MacCachren and co-driver, Cisco Bio, finished second overall in the No. 20 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / MasterCraft Safety Trophy Truck and Pierce finished 11^th of 28 competitors in SCORE’s marquee Trophy Truck class.

Most of the 17 professional off-road drivers in Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series’ (LOORRS) premier Pro2 Unlimited class are ecstatic if they ever manage to reach the podium.  ROCKSTAR Energy Drink’s Rob MacCachren holds himself to a higher standard though, constantly striving to be the best at whatever he does.  This iron will has allowed “Rockstar Rob” to earn three consecutive Pro2 Unlimited short course racing championships in as many years.  Coming into last weekend’s racing at historic Glen Helen Raceway, MacCachren was fifth in season points and looking to move forward in the rankings.

Climb in the driver’s seat and race door-to-door, during the Lucas Oil Off-Road Race (Rounds 3 & 4) at Speedworld in Surprise, AZ.  Mastercraft / Impact team members Rob MacCachren, Matt Loiodice, and Robbie Pierce slammed and mashed their way though the field as more than half of the competition fell by the wayside.  After battling through two sixteen lap races over two days, the team took home two first place finishes with Rob MacCachren in his Rockstar Energy Racing Mastercraft Safety Pro-2.

Rough Weekend Of Racing Can’t Keep
ROCKSTAR Energy / Makita Tools Kyle LeDuc Off The Podium

Speedworld Off Road Park in Surprise, Arizona is a notoriously rugged track; particularly the stutter bumps in the infield that result in only one tire on the ground at any given time. While that made for exciting short course racing in Rounds 3 and 4 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) last weekend, when you are feeding 900 horsepower to all four Toyo Open Country M/T tires, like Team LeDuc’s three Pro4 Unlimited trucks, something has to give. “Every time we break something we learn from that,” explained the always humble Curt LeDuc. “We would just rather do our learning in practice that when we are racing.”

The weekend was off to an ominous start when the engine failed in Kyle LeDuc’s No. 99 Pro-Lite truck in qualifying on Friday. The ROCKSTAR Energy / Makita Tools team worked all night to get the truck running for Saturday’s race, where Kyle had quickly moved his way up to fifth in the 16 truck pack, only to have a broken throttle cable end his day. Fortunately throttle cables are easier to replace than engines, but more mechanical gremlins surfaced during Sunday’s race when a bolt came loose in the shifter. Kyle was frustrated that he was unable to finish the race, despite qualifying second for Round 4 and demonstrating that he is just as fast as anyone in the talent-rich Pro Lite class.

In Saturday’s Round 4 Pro4 Unlimited race, Curt LeDuc and his son Todd started in the middle of the 15 truck field in their Truxxx Lift and Level and ROCKSTAR Energy / Makita Tools Fords, with Kyle starting further back at 11th. The race ended early for Curt, whose engine let go, ensuring another long night fueled by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink and filled with the sounds of Makita Tools buzzing in the pit. Todd LeDuc was running strong in the No. 4 Ford, but an errant rock found its way into the fan during the second half of the race, putting it through the radiator. Knowing that the team already had one engine to change, Todd kept an eye on the temperature gauge. As it started to climb into the red, he shut the truck down to save the engine rather than risking further damage.

Meanwhile, Kyle patiently ran in the middle of the pack, working his way forward whenever the opportunity presented itself, but not overdriving his No. 99 ROCKSTAR Energy / Makita Tools F-150. “Finally everything was starting to click,” Kyle revealed after the race. “I had a great battle with Rick Huseman and could taste the win, but I had to drive smart and not throw away a podium finish.” When the checkers came out, Kyle had not only finished less than one second behind Huseman, he also set the fast lap for the race.

After working all night on Saturday to put a new engine into Curt’s Truxxx Lift and Level Ford, oil from a loose line caused a fire in his truck early in Round 4 of racing on Sunday. Fortunately Curt was unhurt, but he was clearly frustrated by the weekend’s results. Kyle started on the first row for Sunday’s race and pulled out to a huge lead early on, appearing as though he would run away with an easy victory. Unfortunately a rear axle shaft had different ideas, and broke during the second half of the race. This required Kyle to limp around the track, his only solace being that he was not along. Only three Pro4 Unlimited trucks were running in what was certainly the most carnage ever witnessed in a LOORRS race!

Fellow racer Travis Coyne was generous enough to loan Todd LeDuc a radiator for Sunday’s racing, allowing Todd to qualify sixth. Todd quickly moved his way up to third place in the No. 4 ROCKSTAR Energy / Makita Tools Ford, but when the red flag came out as a result of his father’s engine fire Todd made contact with a hard braking Adrian Cenni, damaging Todd’s front suspension. Todd tried to nurse the truck around the track, but eventually a rod end let go and ended his weekend. “Our family pushes ourselves really hard to win,” Todd confessed. “But right now my goal at Glen Helen is to finish both races and earn some series points.”

The next round of LOORRS racing will take place at Glen Helen Raceway on May 21st and 22nd. Team LeDuc considers Glen Helen to be their home track due to its proximity to their Cherry Valley headquarters, and they have traditionally done very well at the facility. Last season Kyle had an overall victory and a second place finish at Glen Helen, and Curt set the fast lap during the same weekend. Over the next month, the LeDucs will be upgrading and preparing their Truxxx and ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Tools Fords in order to keep up with their considerable driving talents and ensure the results that they demand of themselves. Surprise, Arizona was the location of Rounds 3 and 4 of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing (LOORRS) this weekend, but no one was surprised when ROCKSTAR Energy’s Rob MacCachren overwhelmed the competition. MacCachren has posted the fastest qualifying time for every Pro 2 Unlimited short course race this season, but was unable to convert that success into a win in the first two rounds of racing. That all changed when the defending Pro 2 champion piloted his ROCKSTAR Energy / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety truck to victory at Speedworld Off Road Park this weekend.

This isn’t to say that the victory in Round 3 came easy. MacCachren started on the second row due to the inverted start, but quickly moved up to second place and held that position for the first half of the race, fending off Carl Renezeder. During the second half of the race, MacCachren turned his attention to the only driver in front of him: Marty Hart. MacCachren and Hart battled back and forth for the lead in door-to-door action that brought the packed grandstands at Speedworld Off Road Park to their feet. On the final lap, MacCachren took the lead for good, taking the checkered flag in his ROCKSTAR Energy / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety truck.

Sunday’s Round 4 racing action was not as close, but the outcome was the same. After qualifying first once again, MacCachren jumped out to an early lead and led the whole race, leaving the other 20 drivers to fight over for second place as MacCachren tallied up his 182nd career victory off-road and set the fast lap for the second day in a row. His short course career accomplishments include winning three consecutive Borg-Warner Championships and three Governor’s Cup Championships at the legendary Crandon International Raceway, all accomplished on BFGoodrich tires.

At the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season opener at Firebird International Raceway last month, ROCKSTAR Energy Drink driver Rob MacCachren was mired in controversy. Despite his reputation as a squeaky-clean racer, MacCachren was stripped of his third place finish after contact with Brian Deegan during the first round of LOORS racing. “I don’t agree with the decision that was made,” MacCachren explained, “but I am not going to dwell on it. I’d rather focus on driving than controversy.” To that end, MacCachren qualified first in the premier Pro 2 Unlimited class for both Saturday and Sunday’s rounds of racing at Firebird in his ROCKSTAR Energy / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety truck. Mechanical failure early in Sunday’s second round of racing required MacCachren to serve his revenge cold. MacCachren will settle for nothing less than the top of the podium at this weekend’s rounds three and four of LOORRS racing at Speedworld Off Road Park.

Makita’s Off Road race teams return to the Valley of the Sun for Rounds 3 & 4 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series this Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17.

The Rockstar Makita LeDuc racing team of Curt, Todd, and Kyle LeDuc will be competing in the Pro 4 class and will be looking to rebound from some bad luck in the last race. The team is consistently a front runner and is aiming for podium finishes all around. Todd LeDuc, who in the past has raced Pro 2, is new to the Pro 4 class and is already showing that he has the speed necessary to take home a win. In addition to running the Pro 4 class, Kyle LeDuc will also be racing in the ProLite class and is a former champion. Kyle will be battling in ProLite against another Makita athlete and former ProLite champion, Brian Deegan.

“The General” Brian Deegan is coming off of a great showing in Rounds 1 & 2 in which he landed on the podium in both Pro 2 and ProLite. He took home the win in ProLite and has proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in the highly competitive Pro 2 class. Brian will be looking to put his Rockstar Metal Mulisha Makita Ford trucks on the podium in both classes.

It should be a great weekend of racing and Makita tools will be there in the pits with some of the best drivers in the sport. All of the action kicks off at SpeedWorld in Surprise, AZ this weekend April 16th & 17th. If you can’t make it out to the race, you can catch all of the racing action on the SPEED channel. Rob MacCachren has long held a reputation for being a talented driver, the kind of “hired gun” you add to the team to guarantee victory. Yet despite over 175 event wins and 20 championships, his “hired gun” status also meant that he had never won a SCORE Trophy Truck race as the Driver of Record. All that changed when MacCachren and co-driver, Cisco Bio, bested a field of 220 worthy competitors at the 2011 MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in the No. 20 SCORE Trophy Truck sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink and MasterCraft Safety. “We have knocked on the door and come so close so many times; it is great to finally take home the victory for everyone who has worked so hard to make this program possible. I didn’t just want this win for myself and the sponsors, I wanted it for the team.”

Rob MacCachren started 11th in a crowded field of 24 SCORE Trophy Trucks and quickly worked his way towards the front, battling with the 2010 SCORE Trophy Truck champion, Jesse Jones, for the physical lead. MacCachren was able to traverse the entire 252.09 mile treacherous course in an impressive four hours, 17 minutes and 45 seconds with no flats from his BFGoodrich tires. Battling a slipping steering belt for most of the race, the Las Vegas native took a gamble during the fuel stop at race mile 108 by opting to spray the belt with carburetor cleaner and get back on course as quickly as possible. The gamble paid off as ‘Rockstar Rob’ not only claimed the class win, he also claimed the overall victory and took the checkered flag just 44 seconds ahead of the second overall finisher, Jesse Jones.

Unfortunately MacCachren’s teammate and Impact and MasterCraft Safety CEO, Robbie Pierce, did not fare as well in the No. 30 Impact by MasterCraft Safety / Rockstar Energy Drink SCORE Trophy Truck. After starting the race in the 7th position, Pierce battled brake issues throughout the day requiring the crew to bleed the brakes during the fuel pit. Eventually, the No. 30 succombed to an intermediate shaft failure at Race Mile 172 and Pierce reluctantly had to call the race. It was a disappointing DNF after Pierce claimed a respectable fourth place finish at last year’s MasterCraft Safety San Felipe 250 and also concluded the 2010 SCORE International race season fourth in points.

When asked about the race, Robbie remarked, “I wish my day would have gone better; nothing would have made me happier than to put both our Jimco-built SCORE Trophy Trucks up on that podium in the first and second spot, but unfortunately the unforgiving San Felipe desert had other plans for me. Regardless, I am thrilled for Rob and his victory. It really is the next best thing to my own win and I couldn’t be more pleased and more proud of Rob and the incredible MasterCraft Racing support crew.”

On Sunday afternoon, December 12, 2010 the all-stars of short course racing will collide for the ultimate post-season event.

Professional pride, bragging rights and the richest payday in off road.  That’s right, the Rockstar Energy Challenge Cup is the all-or-nothing season finale showdown on a brand-new, super-tough, fan-friendly, short course off-road venue at Phoenix’ Firebird International Raceway.

The lineup features a sure to be thrilling PRO-2 vs. PRO-4 battle and you will not want to miss the one of a kind race of Pro Lite Vs. Pro Buggy. This totally unique event delivers on-your-feet excitement and non-stop thrills.

No one has ever dared to combine racing classes like Lucas Oil Off Road will on December 12 in Phoenix.

Pro Lite Vs. Pro Buggy will feature a wild combination off road trucks and off road buggies all on the same track and all racing for the same prize. This collision of short course chaos guarantees flag to flag excitement. The underrated ranks of Pro Buggy will once again try hard to prove that they’re faster than the trucks.

Wheelmen like San Clemente, Calif.’s Cameron Steele, Jerry Whelchel from Portola Hills, Calif., Doug Fortin (Alpine, Calif.) and Larry Job (Las Vegas) will all be key factors in giving the trucks a run for their money.
The experience of Columbia, Louisiana’s Marty Hart, the speed of Chris Brandt (Council Bluffs, Iowa) and Pro Lite Champion Brian Deegan (Temecula, Calif.) will be standing in the way and fighting hard to gain the title back for the trucks.

Last year’s 2009 Challenge Cup victor, Yorba Linda, Calif.’s buggy driver Chuck Cheek won the race in a dominating fashion, starting from the very back and passing every single car & truck on the track for the win and earning $20,000 for his efforts. This year the Pro Lite purse totals $35,000.

$53,500 is up for grabs in the PRO-2 Vs. PRO-4 Race. Last year Montebello, Calif.’s Carl Renezeder took the win in his Lucas Oil PRO-4 Machine. With $30,000 alone going to the winner Carl is likely to have his hands full as all of the best drivers are looking to take home the big payday.

Rob MacCachren from Las Vegas will be leading the field of PRO-2s in his Rockstar Energy machine. Rodrigo Ampudia (Ensenada, Mexico), Robby Woods (Pahrump, Nevada), and Bryce Menzies (Las Vegas) will also be factors. Look out for Brian Deegan as he made an impressive debut into PRO-2 at the recent Las Vegas rounds 13 & 14.

The fiercest challenger will likely be Riverside, Calif.’s Rick Huseman in a lightning fast PRO-4 Toyota, however no one should count out Johnny Greaves (Abrams, Wisc.), Kyle Leduc (Cherry Valley, Calif.) and all-time-motorcycle-great-turned-race-truck-driver Jeremy McGrath (Murrieta, Calif.) who all have the speed and capabilities to win.

Tony Vanillo, Gary Hubert and the rest of the Lucas Oil Off Road Team have created an incredible track that will offer the most aggressive “Supercross” style obstacles yet. Multiple line choices, table top rhythm sections, downhill ski jumps, uphill steps ups, Firebird International Raceway has it all and is about to get down and dirty. Which machines will reach the finish line first? 2wd or 4wd? Truck or Buggy?

Fans packed the bleachers at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as perfect weather greeted the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORS) for Rounds 13 and 14 of racing action. In Pro4 Unlimited, Kyle LeDuc qualified 4th while his father Curt was right behind him, qualifying fifth in his Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford. Kyle started on the front row and jumped out to an early lead for the first half of the race, battling with Rick Huseman. During the competition yellow at the mid-point of the race Kyle pulled his No. 99 into the hot pits to address a tire that was damaged during contact with Huseman.

Curt LeDuc was in third place at the competition yellow, but rear suspension failure after a particularly hard landing put him out of the race, resulting in a disappointing 10th place finish. Kyle was working his way back to the front of the Pro4 Unlimited field with a new Toyo tire, but ran out of time before reeling in all of the competition. Kyle finished just 11 seconds behind the winner, putting him in fifth place for the day and accumulating more season points, where he currently sits in third place in Pro4 Unlimited.

Never one to turn down an opportunity to race anything, Kyle LeDuc also made an appearance in Super Lite, a spec class that really let his driving talent shine. Kyle started on the first row in the SoCal Super Trucks / Bully Dog truck and when the green flag dropped he never looked back. In what was quite possibly the most exciting racing of the day, Kyle battled with Dawson Kirchner for the win the entire race. Kyle set the fast lap, but narrowly lost to Kirchner in a photo finish, coming in second by five hundredths of a second!

In the premier Pro2 Unlimited class, Todd LeDuc qualified fourth out of a field of 17 trucks in the No. 8 Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford F-150. Sitting in fifth in series points coming into the race, Todd had high expectations, but a broken trailing arm ended his day early, resulting in a disappointing 13th place finish.

Sunday’s Pro4 Unlimited race saw Kyle back on the front row, with his father,Curt, starting at the back of the field. Kyle jumped out to a quick lead, but gave it all back when he spun out early in the race. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Kyle worked his way back up to fifth place before hard contact from John Harrah spun Kyle’s No. 99 Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford and flattened a rear tire. Attrition was heavy for the rest of the field as well, including family patriarch, Curt LeDuc, who broke an upper A-arm during contact with Josh Merrell. Curt eventually finished in 12th place on Sunday, while his son Kyle ended in 7th place.

Sunday’s Super Lite race looked like a repeat of Saturday’s performance, where Kyle battled with the leaders and was in the lead on the final lap. Unfortunately, Kyle bicycled the truck and was able to recover, only to have his Super Lite roll the other direction, resulting in a disappointing 14th place finish.

Round 14 of racing was no kinder to Todd LeDuc in Pro2 Unlimited, as suspension failure once again conspired against him, resulting in a 12th place finish. “We are just trying to keep everything together for the last few races of the season, but sometimes that is not so easy”, a disappointed Todd explained following the race.

The next stop on the LOORS circuit for the Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools LeDuc Racing Team will be the season finale at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix on December 11-12, where the LeDucs hope to bring home the Lucas Oil Off Road Challenge Cup to put on the mantle next to their Borg-Warner Cup trophies.

Pro4 – For Sunday’s Pro4 race survival was the name of the game as less than half of the field managed to finish.  At the start, there were twelve competitors, and Huseman, Renezeder and Cenni lead the pack.  After only a couple of laps, Curt Leduc, Daugherty and Johnson were finished.  Johnson’s vehicle caught fire causing a full course stop.  Kyle Leduc had a flat and limped into the hotpits a lap down.

Meanwhile, the Lucas Oil Racing Series points leader, Rick Huseman, was running away with the race until he suddenly lost his rear drive shaft and had to rely on only front wheel drive to try and finish the race.  Most of the remaining field rapidly passed him with Carl and Cenni taking the lead.  On the final lap, Carl’s truck pulled off in turn seven with heavy smoke and Cenni cruised in for the hard earned win.  He was followed by Travis Coyne, who has managed to podium the last three races in a row, and amazingly Rick Huseman managed a third place finish as his vehicle limped through the checkered flag. In the end only 6 vehicles managed to finish the race.

ProLite –Unfortunately the ProLite class has lacked excitement this season as the racing has suffered from a lack of competition.  Deegan, Brandt and Hart are the main competition for the podium every race, and this race got off to the usual sight of the three of them in the lead at the start of the race.  Brandt ran into electrical issues and eventually had to pull out of the race.

That left it up to Deegan and Hart to race for the finish.  Deegan opened up a sizeable lead, as he ran a flawless race, and Marty Hart never had an opportunity to catch up.  Corey Sisler, who started on the poll for the race, did an admirable job of staying out of trouble and finished in third.

Pro2 – The Pro2 class has been the highlight of the LOORS series with competitive races and serious talent to be found throughout the field of 18 competitors.  Only problem is; if Rob MacCachren is on the poll he runs such tight lines and makes so few mistakes that it’s almost impossible to get by him.  That’s the way the race set up with MacCachren up front and the rest of the pack battling for second and third place.

Brian Deegan, racing in only his second Pro2 race managed to hold down second for a good portion of the race with Carl Renezeder and Robby Woods hot on his heels.  Deegan showed a bit of nerves as he cut too much on turn seven and lost momentum allowing Renezeder and Woods to pass.  Further back in the pack there was some serious banging going on as Rodrigo Ampudia and Rob “Fig” Naughton got into it several times.  There was some excitement at the end of the race when Woods went up on two wheels and Deegan shortened the distance for third place.  On turn seven Deegan went to the inside and banged into Woods, but Woods had more momentum coming out of the turn and managed to hold down third place.  An exciting end to an exciting day of racing in Las Vegas.

Day two of the Labor Day weekend resembled the  Fall racing we came here to see. Perfect blue sky.  T-shirt temperatures.  Large crowds in attendance. 

The first pro race started at 10:30am. 

PRO4x4

Both Rick Huseman and Johnny Greaves had a fair shot at the Pro4 title as this race concludes the season.  Rick would have to win and Johnny had to finish no better then forth for Rick to get his name on the TORC series title.

Right after the green flag dropped Ken Kincaid got the hole shot closely followed by Greaves and Huseman.  By turn 4 the pressure of the two Monster Energy trucks on Kincaid turns out to be too much as he cleared the course for the big boys. 

Then still within the first lap Greaves gave way to Huseman after a small driving mistake and Huseman never looked back until the end of the race.

Scott Douglas consistently defended for a third place finish.

Adrian Cenni in forth had Kyle LeDuc creeping up from behind.  There was some rubbing between the two and after some contact, Cenni approached the “Traxxis Launch Zone” jump sideways crashing into a concrete pillar.  His day was done but not before his rear tire ripped off in the violent crash.  It bounced into the opposite track and hit Huseman’s truck dead square in the front grill.  No harm done other than some cosmetic damage. 

Huseman wins the race while Greaves finishes less then one car length after him to win the overall TORC series championship.

PRO2wd

Ricky Johnson holds the points lead for the championship title with a 5point lead over Rob MacCachren going into the race. 

Starting with the first turn Dan Vanden Heuvel takes the lead from the group and never gives it away.  He wins his final Pro2 race as he retires from racing after the weekend.

Ricky Johnson managed to land in second place after turn one and retained that position when the checkered flag dropped.  This didn’t come easy as Scott Taylor briefly moved into second place late into the race but had to ultimately settle for third. 

Rob MacCachren had to pull into the pits for a tire change right before the yellow flag and had to work his way into the lead pack lap by lap after the green flag dropped.

Rob finished in 4th place, giving the Pro2 TORC series championship to RJ.

Robby Gordon just like Saturday had a poor outcome as he ran in the rear of the group until he eventually pulled over after he lost a engine belt and his engine started to overheat dangerously.

ProLite

The ProLite race was rather uneventful with no major battles or position changes. 
Just like the previous day Casey Currie ran up front not only unchallenged but also with a huge gap behind him.

The weekend wins also earned him the TORC series championship in ProLite

Ross Hoek just like yesterday reached the podium with a second place today.

Todd Cunningham worked his way from the middle of the pack all the way to a third place. 

Marty Hart had early problems with his hood flipping over the windshield blocking his view after he plowed into Andrew Caddell.  He was forced to pit and lost lot’s of ground.  Later in the race he had to drop out with some technical problems.

This was the last time 4-cylinders will race at Crandon as the TORC series mandates v8 engines next season.

AmsOil Cup

The race everyone waited for all weekend was the AmsOil Cup race with a large cash prize as a reward.  20 trucks lined with the Pro2 group starting first followed by the much faster Pro4 29 seconds later.

For the first time this weekend Robby Gordon’s bright orange Speed Factory Tv Pro2 was at the front of the field.  Unfortunately before the first lap was completed the driveshaft twisted and disabled all forward motion.

“It took me 2 practice races to be where I wanted to be…..then I did a liitle bit of a wheelie and it twisted the driveshaft.” is what Robby Gordon had to say later in the pits as he signed autographs.  

It took the Pro4′s just a few laps to catch and pass the Pro2′s.  Rick Huseman soon led the pack until one of his rear tires disintegrates and not only destroys part of his fiberglass body but also all chances for the big payday. 

Eventually Scott Douglas claims the front spot and never gives up to claim victory to the first ever AmsOil Cup.  Steve Barlow finished second closely followed by Johnny Greaves. 

The Pro4 clearly were the fastest trucks in this race.  The fastest Pro2′s took fourth with Rob MacCachren driving and fifth with Jeff Kincaid.

Chicago’s Route 66 Raceway Unpredictable for ROCKSTAR Energy Racing

Rob MacCachren’s return to Joliet, Illinois Route 66 Raceway was not what the off road racing champion had in mind when he arrived to the great state of Illinois. Since the beginning of the 2010 Traxxas TORC Series Rob MacCachren has earned a podium position in each and every race, but that was not the case on Wednesday night when the 19-time championship season winning racer crossed the finish line.

After leading the race from the first lap, it appeared the Las Vegas off road racing veteran would chalk up another mark in the win column, but as the white flag waved, MacCachren experienced a component failure, which forced him to fall off the lead pace. The 19-time off road racing champion finished the race in 7th position.

August 9, 2010 – Off road racing return to Southern California as the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series arrived to the famed Glen Helen Raceway, entertaining a sold out crowd of dirt thirsty off road racing fans. The massive track lights fired up about the same time as the 800 horsepower motors of the Unlimited Pro 4’s prepared to kickoff a big weekend of racing. The last race in Southern California was back in December of 2009 when the fans, flocked to Glen Helen Raceway to see the stars of off road racing.

Rob MacCachren’s career accomplishments include winning three consecutive Borg-Warner Championships, as well as three Governor’s Cup Championships, all at Crandon International Raceway in Wisconsin. The multi-disciplined championship racer has accumulated 174 victories and 19 championships between closed short course and open desert racing.

Rob has also accumulated 5 SCORE Baja 1000 victories and another 5 SCORE Baja 500 wins. MacCachren was heralded as the premier driver after winning the longest distance (1296 miles point-to-point) SCORE Baja 1000 ever held in 2007.

Kyle LeDuc shows us what it’s like to take a lap in a Pro 4 Unlimited at the Glen Helen track. Watch the video as he explains every jump and turn. Kyle placed 2nd on Saturday’s round 9 event and he took the 1st place spot on Sunday’s round 10 race.

It has been a historic year for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORS), with the last two events taking place at brand new tracks in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. For Rounds 9 and 10, LOORS went to the legendary Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. Best known for its epic motocross races, Glen Helen Raceway carved a new eighth-mile short course into the hillside of the San Gabriel Mountains, complete with a triple table top, banked turns, and aggressive rhythm sections.

The Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools team of LeDuc Racing was looking to make a little history of their own in front of a sold-out capacity crowd at Glen Helen on this idyllic weekend in August. Kyle LeDuc qualified 4th in a field of 17 talented drivers in the Pro 4 Unlimited class. Kyle was 5th in season points following his 2nd place finish at Miller Motorsports Park in the last round of racing. He picked up right where he left off, leading the field in the No. 99 Ford F-150 until he caught a rut and bicycled his truck mid-way through the race. Fortunately the traction from the Toyo Open Country M/T tires allowed Kyle to regain control and he battled for the win the rest of the race. In some of the fiercest competition we have seen all season, Kyle LeDuc finished the race in 2nd place, less than a second behind the winner! Family patriarch, Curt LeDuc, remained the model of consistency that he has been all season; he currently sits in 4th place in season points and qualified 9th on Friday in his 800-horsepower Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford. Curt used his years of experience to work his way to the front of the crowded Pro 4 Unlimited field, finishing 9 seconds behind Kyle for 4th place.

Todd LeDuc came into Glen Helen in 7th in season points in Pro 2 Unlimited following two 2nd place finishes in Utah. On Friday Todd qualified 13th in his Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford due to transmission issues, requiring him to start at the back of the pack. By the mandatory caution at the mid-point of the race, he had moved up to 6th place, and as the race was coming to a close Todd threw caution to the wind and attempted to thread the needle between the two trucks ahead of him on the huge table top jump. Unfortunately mid-air contact with another truck caused Todd to spin out, resulting in a 7th place finish.

On Sunday, Kyle started on the first row in the Pro 4 Unlimited race and never looked back. The only person to challenge his win was Carl Renezeder after the mandatory caution, but Kyle raced past Renezeder on the last lap to take the checkered flag for Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools Team LeDuc Racing. Unfortunately, Kyle’s father Curt experienced some bad luck in the No. 43 truck, and had to pull into the hot pits early in the race. A violent rollover brought out the caution and kept Curt on the lead lap, and he was able to set the fastest lap time for the race. Unfortunately he barrel rolled trying to work his way up through traffic and eventually finished in 7th place, earning valuable season points in the process.

The Pro 2 Unlimited race was the night’s finale on Sunday, and it was full of carnage. Todd started on the inside of the 4th row in the No. 8 Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools Ford and was picking off competitors until a spectacular crash brought out the red flag, requiring him to move back to his original starting position. “That was tough enough, but then shortly after the restart I got punted into the wall by another truck and ended up at the back of the field.” Never one to quit, Todd once again continued working his way through traffic until wheel-to-wheel contact with Rob Naughton caused them both to spit out their drive-shafts, resulting in a 13th place finish for Todd.

With just three weekends of racing left in the season, the first family of short course racing is well poised to make a run at series championships in both the Pro 2 Unlimited and Pro 4 Unlimited classes. The next stop on the LOORS circuit for the Rockstar Energy Drink / Makita Tools LeDuc Racing Team will be a return to Speedworld in Arizona, a venue where Kyle finished in 2nd place and Curt took two 4th place finishes earlier this year. 12 Rally competitors face each other in 2 disciplines of X-Games version of RallyCross during the 16th X-Games in Los Angeles, CA. We bring you some up close photography since pictures speak a thousand words. Tanner Foust was the big winner during this years games which comes at no big surprise with his resume in Rally and Drift racing. Metal Mulisha’s Brian Deegan came in a close 2nd. Both Rockstar and Ford are happy with their one/two win.

The 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORS) began under the neon lights of Sin City with the premiere Unlimited 2 and Unlimited 4 classes packed with talent. The veteran Rockstar Energy / Makita team of LeDuc Racing has seen numerous teams come and go during their many years of racing, and with multiple BorgWarner Cup victories to the team’s credit they know exactly what it takes to win, regardless of the competition. The all-new tight, technical track constructed at Las Vegas Motor Speedway played to the strengths of the first family in short course racing, and expectations were high coming into the event.

Kyle LeDuc qualified second in the first round of Unlimited 4 in his No. 99 Rockstar Energy / Makita Ford, less than a second behind Rick Huseman, while his father Curt qualified 10th out of 17 Unlimited 4 trucks. When the green flag dropped, Curt and Kyle both when to work moving forward in the field in their 800 horsepower Ford F-150s. Kyle battled with Johnny Greaves for much of the race and even made a spectacular mid-air pass of Rick Huseman to move into second place behind Scott Douglas. When the checkers came out Kyle had started off a new season of short course racing much the same way he ended 2009: on the podium. Family patriarch Curt LeDuc had moved up from 10th to finish just off the podium in fourth place in his No. 43 Rockstar Energy / Makita truck. “Carl Renezeder and I were having a hell of a battle, and I really wanted to be up there (on the podium) with Kyle, but I guess that will have to wait until we go to Arizona,” Curt LeDuc commented after the race.

Todd LeDuc qualified fifth on Friday in his Rockstar Energy / Makita Ford, only one second behind Jeremy McGrath. Todd started on the third row in Round One and soon worked his way to the front of the crowded field, with 22 trucks on the track. Part way through the race action an errant rock found its way through the Beco radiator of Todd’s No. 8 truck, causing temperatures to rise to critical levels. Todd kept a cool head in the face of adversity and was able to nurse the 800 horsepower Ford truck around the track to earn valuable season points, eventually finishing in 15th place in Round One.

Saturday night the skies opened up and drowned out any chance of running testing or qualifying for Sunday’s Round Two action due to the muddy track conditions. Jumping straight into race action, Kyle LeDuc started fifth in Unlimited 4 and quickly worked his way forward, engaging in a spectacular battle for third place with Carl Renezeder. Kyle eventually made the pass in his No. 99 Rockstar Energy / Makita Ford, but contact with a K rail barrier resulted in suspension damage that required Kyle to limp his F-150 around the track, ending in a 13th place finish. Travis Coyne swapped paint with Curt LeDuc on the first turn of the race, causing brake damage to Curt’s Rockstar Energy / Makita Ford. The injured truck also suffered from engine issues under the Makita-green hood, pushing Curt back to 12th place by the end of the race.

The Unlimited 2 race started with a spectacular crash by Ricky Woods, and the fiberglass continued flying all the way until the checked flag! Todd LeDuc started 16th and methodically picked off competitors, but the slick conditions and short, 1.1 mile track did not give Todd the room he needed to reign in the leaders. His No. 8 Rockstar Energy / Makita Ford eventually rounded out the top ten of the 21 racers in Sunday’s Round Two Unlimited 2 battle.

Before the mud has even dried on the chassis, the Rockstar Energy / Makita LeDuc Racing team is already preparing for the next stop on the LOORS circuit at Speedworld Off Road Park. Flying Dutchman Overcomes Adversity to Make the Show
Ends Cup Race Early Avoiding Serious Contact

Lake Elsinore, CA (December 21, 2009) – After Mother Nature caused the inaugural Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Rockstar Challenge to be delayed for a week, Dan Vanden Heuvel and his Maxxis Tire Racing Plus Chevy Unlimited 2 was looking to bring some holiday cheer back to Appleton, Wisconsin. The Flying Dutchman looked to have the speed, early on, to make a serious challenge for the win, only to have a mishap on the track end his day early.

The Saturday only event actually started on Friday with practice and qualifying. The morning practice saw the red #77 turn in some competitive lap times while preparing for the afternoon qualifying session. When Dan roared into the ten minute qualifying session, the team figured a top eight qualifying time, and an automatic spot in the Saturday Main Event was well within reach. Then on lap three of the session, the Flying Dutchman pulled off the track as the engine lost much of its power. The couple of laps that the Maxxis Chevy completed weren’t quick enough to make the starting grid; therefore, the only way into the Saturday showdown was through the Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday morning.

Instead of burning the midnight oil with an engine swap, Dan and the team prepped the backup truck for the next morning’s Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). The Flying Dutchman team had the truck ready before the sun went down behind the mountains.

The next morning, the LCQ went according to plan. The Maxxis Tire Racing Plus Chevy easily won the Unlimited 2 LCQ and secured a starting spot in the fifth row of the Rockstar Challenge Cup.

The final event of year saw twenty-six of the fastest Unlimited 2 and Unlimited 4 race trucks line up at the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex, looking to capture the inaugural Rockstar Challenge Cup. The two truck classes were on the track together and were each racing for their own class big payout of $30,000. While the overall winner would get the big prize, the three foot tall Rockstar Cup.

The beginning of the race saw the red #77 starting on the inside of row five. When the green flag fell, Dan was quickly gaining positions on the track. Then on lap two, Dan made a sudden move to avoid crashing with a rolling Greg Adler; while another competitor made contact with the Maxxis Chevy, avoiding the same wreck, and severely bent the right side tie rod, rendering the truck unable to turn. The remaining laps had Dan sitting with his truck watching the rest of the race unfold.

Afterwards, Dan had summed up his weekend; “We came to Elsinore looking to finish the year on a high note. Friday our Wegner power plant, after running twenty rounds of racing, ultimately gave up. Wegner builds the best motors on the planet, but we were really running on borrowed time. Fortunately, our backup truck was ready with another Wegner power plant. We went out this morning and won the LCQ, and our confidence was really at an all-time high. During the Cup race we really had our truck hooked up. I thought I came through the Adler wreck in good shape, but another competitor got into me while avoiding the same crash; it was nobody’s fault, it was just racing. You know I look back on this year and I didn’t know if I would make it until the end of the TORC series, but we added the final weekend and the Rockstar Cup of the Lucas Oil series as well. This year has been one heck of a ride, and with the right marketing partner, I can keep the ride going in 2010.”
