Terrible Herbst Motor Sports just recently moved to a new facility in Huntington Beach California.
The race shop is larger in size then commonly seen in Desert Racing but keep in mind that the Herbst family is involved in various classes and series. Besides the three Brothers Ed, Tim Troy their wife’s are also racing. Herbst Motor Sports has and will be a family affair.
Mike Smith is the person in charge at the shop and will also be building 3 new Trophy Trucks to be completed later in 2007 or early 2008. He is the brain and hands behind all the winning Herbst Vehicles we are all very familiar with. For this season all 3 brothers will be competing in PRO-4’s in the ever growing Short-Course Racing.
During our visit most of the race vehicles where at another facility but typically each vehicle has its own bay to be serviced in. Certain aspects of race-prep such as Engine, Transmission, Electrical, Safety, teardown, shocks and tires have their own departments.
After walking through the lobby you enter a showroom that holds a trophy case and will be home to some nostalgic racecars. Soon the now famous beam class one car will be restored and be on display.
The entire offroad community can’t wait to see what Mike Smith will create next for the team.
