The #118 Chenowth 1000 making another run at the NORRA 1000

For immediate release:

April 25, 2012, Tucson Az:  The 1977 restored Chenowth 1000 will defend its 2011 NORRA Mexican 1000 win next week at the race labeled “The happiest race on earth”.  Jeff Furrier will Pilot the vintage Chenowth down the Baja Peninsula with help from nephew John Furrier as they challenge the Baja desert once again in the 3 time Baja 1000 winning buggy.  Last year the Chenowth had just been completely restored from the ground up and returned to Baja for the first time in 30 years since winning the 1981 Baja 1000 in class 1.

The NORRA Mexican 1000 begins with Tech inspection on Saturday, April 28th next to the famed Bullring in downtown Mexicali.  The 4 day staged rally starts bright and early on Sunday morning, just east of town on Laguna Diablo dry lake and concludes in San Jose Del Cabo, some 1000+ miles away at the tip of Baja California.

After winning its class last year at the Mexican 1000, the Chenowth  went on a media and show tour spending time in the San Diego Auto Musesem and on display at major off road races. The tour ended with a Hot VW’s Magazine photo shoot that is featured in the 2012 June issue, 33 years after the the Chenowth was on the cover of Hot VW’s after winning the 1979 Baja 1000.

The decision to race was made a little over a month ago.  “I wasn’t planning on racing this year because of some other commitments and last years partner Rory Ward was focusing on a new project would have made it difficult to pull off” Furrier stated from his UPR Racing Supply office in Tucson.  “We had such a great time last year I couldn’t stand to NOT race again!  All the sponsors from last year, with the addition of GoPro and MotorMexico.com , I was able to put it together.  This year John Furrier will be taking over for Rory as the co-driver in the #118 Chenowth in the quest for another victory!”   Follow the progress of Chenowth in the General Tire NORRA 1000 on SpotAdventures.com by  searching “chenowth 118”.

A HUGE thank you to the following sponsors:
